I have repaired generators in my time as an electrical fitter/mechanic so I would repair it myself. My brother bought my brother a couple of discontinued AEG units & one of them has a faulty RCD (residual current device) on it & the Simple fix is to replace it !
My generator is like this, except for the B&S engine. I haven't started it in a while. So I figure I need to clean the carb and the bowl. It will run with starting fluid. I just haven't got brave enough to pull the bowl. I have less than 20 hours on the thing, so it's basically brand new.
Hey I have an echo pb580t and I cant get it to start. Cleaned out the carb already. Checked it all. Everything is good. It begins to catch, but doesnt start up. What's going on? Please help
consider replacing the plug, because that's what I do, when I have a stubborn starting issue, if that doesn't work, I would look into replacing the carb.
I have a Briggs engine on a craftsman lawn mower it needed a valve lash adjustment and after I did it it generously backfires while starting and it has not started yet I did try to do it without the spacer
it's not a problem, I just need to make sure I understood the question, It sounds like the valve adjustment might have been off? did you put the piston on TDC or did you adjust it by having one of the valves in the down position?
A couple years back, I broke a snowblower to a shop for my brother in law. They wanted $600 to fix the electric starter and stuck transmission. I have been working on everybody's equipment since. I'm in the same boat as you for a generator though, not sure what I'm doing all the time with electricity. 😐
personally i would try and repair it myself it would be a lot cheaper than bring it to a repair shop just by watching your great video that Generator if it was at my place and to get it running again the correct way it would easy be $ 700.00 to $ 800.00 to repair it and the other thing you know that generator is going to be a come back even at your best repair and you think you got it right oh yeah Mr Home owner is not going to be happy when it faileds to start or put out electricity
I’m very interested in this one. I have a 1982 Honda generator, points, condenser and coil under the steel flywheel, with a no spark issue that has almost beat me. I had it running once for about 10 minutes. Just once! Ordered an Oregon ignition module, still no spark. The coil is now dead. I’m currently trying to locate another coil. Frustrating to say the least. Thought about taking it to my local shop but just can’t let this one win. Looking forward to the follow up video. Cheers
What I do to check spark, while it’s not very smart is to just hold the plug and have someone to pull the engine, if I get shocked I know that the ignition works
I will always check the oil in my generator before I start it. Even if it does have the low oil shut down on it. I had that same issue with my old riding mower with the 17hp Tecumseh Enduro
I’ve had a similar thing happen to my Honda generator, the exhaust valve seized open and the rocker fell off. That had me worried that the engine had blown up, but a little disassembly (and penetrating oil) got it back working.
Great video again! Showing the actual difference between good and bad fuel excellent. Second was OHV adjustment explained very clearly. Third was compression tester use. This example was nice because it showed low compression and next step. Very interesting case, I'm not convinced there isn't more damage somewhere.
it takes me, 10-12 hours to make a 15 minute video. if you do the math, it wouldn't be able to get enough time, to keep my schedule, and would have to mark bi-monthly videos instead.
@@HomeGaragechannel Feel free to give us less edited videos if you feel like so, we're all up for your good work and more content is always apreciated, thank you very much :)
The low compression of 65 lbs. may be due the engine having a compression release for easy starting. My guess is that you only have a fuel issue now after fixing the rocker arm. I always fix my own equipment probably due have a small engine shop. I get tired of fixing junk mowers, one guy brought me six junk mowers this spring to fix. He is a land lord and won't buy good mowers for his tennants to use. Thanks for the video.
You could definitely hear some valve train trouble on the first pulls. I wasn't worried about compression either, usually just go by feel if it's a no-start issue and proceed to try and get spark and manually squit it some fuel
@@HomeGaragechannel I'm sure if you go back you will hear the clanking. Maybe it just comes across better on video. Sometimes the pull start mechanism will rub and make noises or you can hear a rusty/gummed up flywheel hit, will usually have much higher drag then.
Hi I have the same lawn mower the problem With my is the clutch when it get hot the pto stop working do you know how to calibrate or do I need to replace it Clutch GT1-TI 01 oruga brand thank you
Your videos keep me interested in finding free small engine items that people throw away and see if I can repair them with you knowledgable videos . Im really liking the hobby of fixing them up and maybe flip them for a profit one day !
One thing you need to understand about Tecumseh engines is that they absolutely hate being abused, and they’ll show that at you. Believe they’re great engines, most of the time they fail because it is the consumers fault for not maintaining it.
oh, it's because he and I have the same race car, which we've had for the past 20 years, so I've seen this plug, more times than I can count. The way I knew, the plug, wasn't important to the diagnostic so I didn't mention it.
Stuck rings and valves not seating properly , pull cylinder head lap valves soak cylinder in marvel mystery oil for 24 hours new head gasket and valve cover gasket but be sure to set clearance on intake valve at 4 thousand and exhaust valve clearance at 6 thousand
Have you ever tried ECHO Red Armor? It made my old 2011 ECHO 416t run way better than any other 2stroke oil. My 2022 ECHO PAS225 runs red armor and performs better than the oil that came with the unit (ECHO POWERBLEND GOLD) and the powerblend somehow made a gel like substance when mixed with fresh fuel.
Hey bro cool video. I believe this was one of the most stressful engines that you've worked on. I probably would of given up on in and send it to the dump😅😅
@@HomeGaragechannel when the owners don't do regular maintenance on their equipment it becomes very stressful for the technician to diagnose the problem which may result in having to go through the entire machine in order to repair it.
I would try to fix it myself since I like a challenge, but I also know when I’ve been defeated and then will bring it into somebody that knows more about the machine than I do.
Such a tease 😆 I know you probably have this thing up and running but I would shoot some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinder to free up those rings I swear by that stuff ! Can't wait for the next one 👍
I may or may not have poured a bit of ATF down the valve stems on engines sitting a while. Come up with your own reasons why you'd do this. Like a saline injection but for engines that's been sitting forever.
Ohh a Tecumseh Vector carb That enough to make me run away Those just replace them if you can find one on Amazon They only used them for a short time. @taryl fixes all. Has some video on carburetor
Great video!! I would try to work on it myself. I actually worked on your generators little brother, a Coleman powermate sport 1850, with a 3.5 horse flat head briggs not that long ago.
Simply because you have spark, but no fuel getting in to the combustion chamber. Either that or the engine is just shot due to a scored piston or cylinder wall.
do it yourself shops and backyard mechanics will tell you its not worth fixing hoping you will give it to them then they take parts from someone else they ripped off and fix it for nothing and turn around and sell it for $400.00!! FACT one even said that!!
Watch your fingernails when starting generators with metal panels like this one. Almost ripped a nail off starting one of these. Who the hell engineers this crap?
The reason there isn't more than 65psi compression at cranking is because of a decompression 'bump' feature on the cam. When it starts the 'bump' retracts and full compression is restored
I have 3 generators in my garage that are complete basket cases. After Helene I have inquired them. This video has been helpful.
That's what I like to hear

Thats very right HG that exhaust valve stem ain't broke don't Fitz it!

that's a shame.

@@HomeGaragechannel I think due to the time it's sat idle the old gas either needs to be flushed out or the bowl cleaned.

@@HomeGaragechannel I was talking about the tool you use for spacing the valve lashes

because of the numbers on it, indicate its for a car engine, not a small engine. Beside I know the guy really well and he's car nut.
