    Can't believe how small the air filter was. (if I owned it) After the warranty I would have modded it to a bigger one, you could see dirt coating the inside of the carb. Also would add an aftermarket inline fuel filter. Would recommend it to the customer cause I know people leave covers off of gas jugs all the time and dirt and dust blow in them. (I'm betting that was how the jet got clogged).
    Thank you for another fine fun Video to watch

      Soooo question, if you put a fuel filter inline with a 50:1, wouldn’t the oil block the filter?

    • @YukiNeko-Neko
      @YukiNeko-Neko 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@martinwagnerproductions Hi, good question. Mine is not a two-cycle. It's a four-cycle and has oil in the base of the engine. Just straight gasoline

      @martinwagnerproductions 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YukiNeko-Neko Ya, I have those as well and run fuel filters, when you mentioned a gas filter for this one, which I have, all I could think of is the oil getting caught up in there lol.

    • @YukiNeko-Neko
      @YukiNeko-Neko 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@martinwagnerproductions I was thinking about this. I see filters inside the chainsaw fuel tanks and I think if you just get a fine mesh inline filter. then there is no reason the 50to1 should ever clog it up and it would help keep any big debris out of the carburetor.

    Just a quick tip. I've had other carb problems so what I did with the carb studs is I threaded on a nut and cut a screwdriver slot wit my Dremel cutoff wheel. Removing the nut cleans up the threads. Now I can remove the studs with just screwdriver.

    I've got a blown head gasket on my car and I really do not have the time or luxury to do this repair. I just bought the thing and it's probably run less than 8 hrs.
    I would have appreciated you excellent work on the carb but I would have tried to reduce the fuel first to see if that was all it needed; obviously yours did but does mine? I have reduced the fuel and so my answer is evident. But I just don't want to take apart a brand new device with this level of delicate work. Oh, hey, my first thought early on the vid was if I could hire you to fix mine.

I have voltage coming off the two wires coming from the flywheel coil and then they go into a small box and then one lead comes out of there and goes to the coil on the end of the spark plug lead. It looks like I have no voltage coming out of that box. Do you know what it is ? I was wondering if I can bypass it and go straight to the spark plug coil, but I would have two leads not one ?

    The gen side crank seal popped out on one of mine, it's a 20x30x7 oil seal. That makes for a huge crankcase air-leak, so it wouldn't start (of course) This was an earlier model, I don't think it was the correct material for gasoline/oil. I haven't had any problem (yet) with the crank seal under the flywheel but I think it's the same size.
    When adjusting the engine governor speed, I use a frequency meter shooting for 60Hz at about half load, using a 500Watt incandescent shop lamp.

    The only times I run these generators is when the power stays off and the coolers are warming up or we need well water which is pulling 220. I never leave fuel in the gensets and have an old 5K Coleman with a 10 horse Briggs flat head and added a 'T' fitting and another shut off valve so I can drain the tank while the generator is running itself dry and I also added a throttle so it can warm up slowly instead of wide open. • @hanshyde9108

      Oh, just wanted to add this…. Mine is a bit different. The carb mounts with 2 bolts, not studs, that hold the front face on also. Easier to take carb off, but more a pain to align it all putting back together.
      There is also an anchor screwed to the top of the face and bolted to the AC motor/generator to some some part and the ground. The tank has to be taken off to remove the screw or bolt.
      Great demo on how to get the studs out btw!

      in a non running condition, the plate Is open and the governor is also keeping it open, that is until the engine starts and the governor inside the engine starts to spin. It will then start to move the governor arm and linkage to close the plate to maintain a certain RPM.

      clean the main fuel jet, or there's an obstruction at the filter screen in the tank. Either way, there's not enough fuel to get thru the carb, and into the engine for it to stay running, at higher engine speeds.

    Is that the only place to clean up is the jet no other parts?

    • @HomeGaragechannel

      In this case it was only the jet, but if there's been fuel sitting in the carb, for a long time

    We would seldom need a generator since out local supply authority has plonked a bigger 132/11kV substation in our town,the last time we had a big power outage was in 2014 when we had a big flood & storm which knocked down some power lines & shorted the 11 kV side out & caused the circuit breaker to trip.
    Their repair crew couldn't get out to us until the flood water subsided. !

      @@HomeGaragechannel i used to disparge these generators on the internet....untill in sept 2017 Hurricane Irma blacked my area i was without power for 8 days. for the 1st couple of days i hooked up a 400 watt inverter to a car battery and used that. then i started running one of my cars all night long with the inverter on it. then someone loaned me one of these little buzzy turds and it ran my fans and charged my tool batteries without issue. it ran great. after the crisis was over i promptly went out and bought one.
      here is the thing. these things are nearly the perfect generator. they are light in weight (under 50 lbs) can be stored anywhere. powerful enough to run a 5k window ac. super simple to repair. basically the only things that break are the carb, the reocil starter, and the capacitor that serves as the voltage regulator. if it doesn't run its the carb, if it doesn't produce power its the cap. there is no oil to change. there are no valves to adjust. if you buy one, get a gallon or more of 2 stroke oil for those long power outages. they consume a 5 gallon can of gas every 24 hours. so if you are planning for a week, get 7 cans.
      oh and these while two strokes, they only run at 3600 rpm. about 1/4 the rpm of chain saw and 1/2 or less than that of a weedeater or blower. they don't need high performance expensive synthetic 2 stroke oil. the cheap stuff works just fine in these.

      Try pulling the muffler off an look up the exhaust hole up by the piston you may have carbon buildup in there if so make sure the piston is all the way down so it out of the way an take a screwdriver an clean out the hole then pull the starter a few times then put it back together an see how it runs

  • @EngDrewman

    Beware that gas cap doesn't seal, period. It's a poor design, not overfilled. It will also cause the gas to go stale rather quickly, so draining the tank for storage is absolutely essential.
