    The dwarf types of tropical lilys used outdoors,will grow and bloom indoors in a aquariums with high light levels. Just saw a vid one in a 90 gallon with a big violet bloom above the aquarium water. Nice!

    @osojack22 viviparous are waterlilies with some parantage in micrantha from tropicals that reproduce sometimes from the lilypad. The point at the stem and the leaf after some time will develop a new plantlet. Tropic Sunset, Debbie Ann, Key largo, Peach Blow, and many many more are viviparous. Other waterlilies are limited to seed or divide by tuber, rhizome, or stolens.

    what about planting them in a farm pond? do I need a container or can I just plant them in the earth? and how deep should I plant them?

    @Ap5251 Sulphurea is a hardy yellow lily. It should be a rhizome that you purchased, I don't think they sell grown plants in most of the country. (perhaps not at all as it would take up space) the rhizome would be brown in color if healthy and appear to have previously grown sideways

  • @pondmegastore
    @pondmegastore  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Ap5251 if in a nice size pot in the sun as little as 3 or 4 weeks. they are heavy feeders so do not forget some fertilizer tablets. If in the shade it will take longer to bloom.

    My Hardy Colorado lily is a day bloomer but it shoots out those things like you were describing the night bloomers do. Do all Colorado lilies do this or is it just mine lol?

    • @pondmegastore
      @pondmegastore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you be more descriptive of what you are speaking of? Are you talking about the eyes forming on the rhizome which are new plants? Night Bloomers are tropical and very different than Colorado they have different root systems and different flowers.

    • @SVMSICE
      @SVMSICE 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pondmegastore it basically will grow new plants a new rhizome down the root from the original rhizome.

    • @pondmegastore
      @pondmegastore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SVMSICE yes, that is a trait of all hardy lilies. Note nightbloomers don't have a rhizome they have tubers

    What u name the small lily type plants with rounded bulbs

    • @pondmegastore
      @pondmegastore  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tropical lilies form round tubers when starved and taken into dormancy.

    viviparous waterlilies can make new plants from the leaves. I will upload a great video of one of these in the next few days. Some waterlilies from time to time can make young that also come out of the flower but that is fairly rare.

    Can the tropical one be propagated without tuber.... that is only with those roots along with some leaves???

    • @pondmegastore
      @pondmegastore  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a few hybrids with the species micrantha in their genetics which produce new plants from old leaves. It is usually listed as a viviparous cultivar. Maybe 5% of tropicals are viviparous hybrids. Other than that yes it must be forced into making Tubers to reproduce which is why their cost is a bit higher as that takes time.

  • @pondmegastore
    @pondmegastore  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @osojack22 yeah that sounds like a vivip plant. I need to post a peach blow video from longwood. It shows plantlets on older lilypads.

    Can waterlily grow from seeds? How to grow and when it bloom.

    • @pondmegastore
      @pondmegastore  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many waterlilies set seed, however germinating and bringing up to blooming size is not easy. Also on any hybrid the seed genetics are not stable and will not be the parent plant. Vegetative reproduction is easier and keeps genetics the same.

    @jeeplaredo2004 Your lily might be an aquarium lily? Little different than the ones we showed. Wouldnt know unless you could say more about it. They will stay small and uneventful unless planted in soil and ferilized, they are HEAVY feeders and wont do much of anything in gravel.

    I have a question on my tropical lilly. I dont know a thing of lillys and have aquariums. At the fish store he had one in a tank that looked just like the one you show at 3:40 in your video. Mine have what kinda looks like a fat palm tree trunk with a few random growths of lillys off the sides and the most stems and leaves coming off the top and stretching a few inches to the leaf. My question is i want to put it in my aquarium and can i just have the main body anchered in the gravel with the t

      Thank you for getting back.. I have a small above ground pond. 4ft. x 8 ft.x 2.5ft. deep. So best area away from spill way or moving water.. Is two and a half to deep for starting hardy lillys. I have some root growth but no blooms last year very little small pads. Humboldt county Ca. Will you ship to me at this time of year May. Thank you in advance for your help and hope to purchase hardylillys to see some blooms this year

      Closer to the surface the faster and better they grow, 1. More light getting to the Rhizome. 2. Warmer water. Yes a little away from falls is best, be sure it is fertilized and the rhizome is NOT growing into the side of a pot, if so it needs repotted to grow and bloom as a healthy plant. 6-10 inches is excellent depth. Lower in winter if you are in a cold area to 24-30 inches.
