Maybe the reason Freddy's face lights up, is for when incase the power goes out during opening hours, he's does that to soothe the children. BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY, A GAME THEORY

I honestly think that the "malfunctions" the animatronics have are actually the children either trying to call for help or it is them trying to warn other people. Exactly how the "cutseens" were basically them trying to warn people.
Another rare thing I think it could be is that they are so worn out from doing the same performance for 30 years straight their bodies are tired and can't go on.

Imagine if this was Henry, documenting the stages of the animatronics becoming more and more hostile. Perhaps when the place was closing down, he wanted to see if all the complaints coming from the nightguards were true. So he played a demo tape that switched the animatronics from free roam mode to performance mode and this was the result. Once passive animatronics now becoming covert killing machines fueled by the wrath of the spirits of the dead children. With henry's fears realized, it was already too late. The souls had taken over the robot bodies and Henry escaped leaving the nightguards to fend for their lives... And one Recorded tape that was left behind.
