honestly this is a crazy good idea. I've tried something similar with music but it was always just too fast for me to ever feel like i really understood anything, but something like this seems way more doable and a good time as well! So thank you!!
It's nice that it helped you learn, Avatar was dubbed in Spanish in my country (Chile) it's a great idea to get input with dubs and having fun at the same time
I actually use this show to teach English to my intermediate students. The themes are phenomenal; the speaking pace is slower; the fight scenes provide a good break from listening, so it isn't too mentally taxing. I'm about to take another whack at learning Spanish and I was planning on doing exactly what you did: Dreaming Spanish and Refold flashcards lol I'm definitely going to watch ATLA in Spanish too! Thanks for the video
It's such a great learning tool also because it's such a great show in general! haha I could probably watch it in any language and be happy. and good luck with learning Spanish!
@@endouerick7519 oh lord. I don't know if I could even give an estimate. haha I didn't track that at all. I've gone through different phases. At the start, I basically never used them but then had different moments messing around with tools like Language reactor and migaku and watching different types of content where I used them. I wish I could give a better answer but I have no idea what % of time I spent with them!
Depending on where you are (or where your VPN is) it might be available on Netflix. Make sure to avoid the dangerous sites like LACartoons and SeriesLan that have dubbed versions of cartoons, you could get your computer a virus!
@@DoomscrollToFluencyit feels that way with most cartoons to be honest, as someone who grew up watching everything dubbed into Spanish, even though Ive watched everything else in English for the last decade or so, it’s still very weird to watch childhood cartoons in English without it feeling awkward (like the Simpson, futurama, adventure time, etc) that being said, if it’s a new cartoon I’ve never watched I don’t mind it at all, like the spin off of adventure time Fiona and cake, or Rick and Morty for example. With those it feels the other way around, it feels weird watching them dubbed even if I understand everything. The worst part is realizing how SO MANY jokes, puns and references are lost due to dubbing! Like the Simpsons is truly a whole different show depending on what language you watch. Rick and Morty too. I guess it’s not that big of a deal with the more childish cartoons. That being said, for us Spanish speakers it’s also very uncomfortable/awkward when it comes to dubbing in other Spanish accents, in LATAM we are used to the latam dubbing (which is basically Mexican without Mexican slang) and in Spain the use the Spanish dub, and it’s weird asf to watch childhood shows in the other dubbing, even though it’s the same language. So it’s probably all about being used to the voice of a character sounding a certain way rather than the language or slang it uses.
TH-cam has correctly identified me as the target audience for this video
haha I'm glad you found it/it found you!
Me too!
Avatar being such a perfect blend of serialization vs episodic, it probably is the best show to do this and not get bored
Exactly. I never get tired of it!

Absolutely try it out! It's such a satisfying experience!

Ha sido muy divertido aprender más sobre la cultura, además del idioma, y me encantaría saber cómo te va cuando lo pruebes.
i watched the whole video until i realised you only have 37 subs like its really good quality
Thank you so much!
Some really helpful insights here! AND this makes me want to try watching Avatar in Spanish 😄
I'm glad you enjoyed it! and absolutely do! It's such a fantastic show.
Around 400 hours in, and this was helpful and encouraging. Thank you!
I’m glad it could be helpful! And good luck with your journey!
In Dreaming Spanish, I'll add an interesting and challenging video to my library as a benchmark. Then I'll rewatch it months later to see my progress.
This is another fantastic option. Having videos slowly come into focus over time of watching them is so satisfying.
Great Idea! Great Video!
Thank you!
I'm at level 2 of the refold comprehension scale rn
Keep going! The beginning is the hardest part.
Same, subscribed! Good content well made
I appreciate it! Thank you.
Mis Coles!
I appreciate it very much!
Should one try this if they’ve never watched avatar? I’m 430 hours but I might save it to 500
You can always watch one episode just to test it out! I bet you’ll be able to understand a decent amount.
when you say you're watching content and listening, were you using target language subtitles or none at all in your journey ?
I use target language subtitles sometimes but also make sure to spend a lot of time with no subtitles. I never use English subtitles.
@@DoomscrollToFluency from those 2000 hours you did, how many would you say were with subs ?

bro, if you have an Instagram or discord. would you mind texting ? 🫡 I'd love to exchange more about language learning 💪
Great video! Where did you find the dubbed version of ATLA?

2000 hours, that sure took a long time to learn a new language.
That's time I was going to spend watching TV anyway :)
Would this work with Italian?
Yes, absolutely!
would you prefer english or spanish?
At this point, when I see clips of Avatar in english, it feels really weird! haha
