You have to realize everything we saw katara do was with less than a YEAR of training…. Within a year she became the strongest water bender a live and she was only 14….. all of these other water benders are full adults. It would be safe to assume that katara is stronger than them
U can say about normal waterbenders but yakone,tarlok and amon ya she can't be stronger than them cuz they are masters of bloodbending. In legend of korra bloodbending was prohibited so katara never mastered bloodbending so those 3 are the most strongest waterbenders ever.
I thought bloodbending didn't effect her after she broke free of hama's bloodbending

Mastering it means to an extent getting that psychic ability of yakone. And no proof of katara getting that ability hence she did not master bloodbending.
@@alimurtaza6318 Bloodbending has no effect if the bender is stronger. Just like how katara was able to over power Hama and Amon over power tarlock. You see kataras full power in season 3 where she is able to create a whole wave to push a whole ship back. We haven’t seen another water bender show full power like that. Just because someone doesn’t want to use a technique doesn’t mean they can’t
putting katara in #4 was a crime, shes literally master of every waterbending aspects. water, healing, bloodbending. she even adapt technique from another bending form of fight.

@@vikavanesya3611 Honey she needed the full moon as well to break free from Hama. She says this herself in the episode "you're not the only one to draw power from the moon..." Yakone, Tarrlok and Amon didn't need the full moon at all; ergo they shit on Katara and tie her in knots without lifting a finger... Pay in mind Hama didn't actually intend to fight her, but make her bloodbend. Also pay in mind Hama wasliving in the Fire Nation and couldn't properly practice her bending so she was out of practice on top of being old as dirt. Had Hama been as young as Katara and actually wanted to win, she would've beaten her.
We all know Katara is a master… She did it all by herself. Imagine her in her 20s or 30s.

Hama was a beast. Inventing a new bending is far more difficult than learning it.
I'm more impressed with bending water out of air. Now that's something nobody seems to talk about. Even master bender need a pouch of water with them if they're not near water
But is it effective in combat though? Hama extracted only enough to cover her fingers? Seems like something a fire bender can easily burn through..
Hama discovered blood bending and Katara was forced to learn it at the last moment to save Ang and Soka. Katara later worked with the Republic to band blood bending and against the law. Only 3 water benders where known to be able to blood bend with out a full moon. and no Avatar has ever blood bend.
@@theUserdudexNope, that's why she was number 9 in the list cause there are many waterbenders that are stronger than Hama.
What I want to point out is how Hama created blood bending. Creating a new sub-element is very difficult as it's pretty much requires you to be in a very desperate situation to unlock that potential (just like what happened with Hama and Toph).

It's often overlooked that Hama is the OG bloodbender
literally developed the technique because she was enslaved. I mean I recognize that she became an antagonist, but she was a young girl going through an extremely traumatic experience and her grit and determination resulted in her creating a very deadly solution.
I think it’s unrealistic to think no one did blood-bending before her, some most likely already discovered it before.
Yakone said that they were descendants of long line of blood benders .
Doesn’t matter Hama clearly wasn’t aware of its existence and still “invented” it on her own right. Self-taught in this case is more or less the equivalent of inventing it.

Ming Hua is such an underrated character...Its crazy how strong she is, without even having arms...Honestly Ming Hua is one of my favorite water benders!!!

She is overrated IMO. Pakku definitely had better mastery of waterbending than she did. As did blood benders like Tarrlok and Hama who are ranked below her on this list. I don’t see her besting these waterbenders

Honestly, the benders from Legend of Korra are so underrated. The way they’re animated is so beautiful and combat techniques are so interesting to watch! The fight scenes in Legend of Korra are so action packed!

Despite being on a much lower budget than atla, the visuals were so much better or at the very least more interesting. The character writing was pretty lacking but the stories and plot lines were arguably more captivating and creative than atla.
I once heard a theory that Yua was supposed to be the next avatar instead of Korra, but due to Aang being frozen, she obviously couldn’t accept Rava’s spirit, which is why she needed help from the moon
That is all to say in another life she probably would’ve been a powerful bender from birth 😌
Rava only transfers if the avatar dies, even if the theory was true the new avatar wouldve been reincarnated around the years of aang being frozen not 100 years later

Actually Water Bending Skills of Kya is really commendable, she trained to be a Healer and there's no war during her time growing up and still she was able to fight that way. The Twins kombat with Ming Hua should have been more a good fight, animated did them dirty.
Kya should be ranked higher, in the series she was not taught combat waterbending only healing but she is still extremely good, if Katara trained her well on dueling she could be very excellent.
I agree, Kya needs to be higher. Her combat skills are actually pretty amazing, the fact she can heal three bodies also at once is astounding.
But she's not right?
I rest my case
Kya faught agaisnt Zaheer in a 1v1 and almost beat him, forcing him to retreat, and then held her own against Ming Hua (was outclass, obviously Ming Hua is a beast). Kya was likely just as good as Katara, she just didn't get the same amount of screen time that Katara did.

@@seawolfhikes Yeah Kya vs Ming Hua was pretty much a 1v1 as bumi was running from Ghazan, P'li was chasing the people escaping and Zaheer was dealing with Tenzin. So Ming Hua did outclass Kya, but still, being out classed by the very best of the best yet still holding her own and putting up a good fight is a huge testement to just how good Kya really was.
Number 1 was clearly an honorary mention...
That said, i think this list is actual about water benders and the amount the threat the seemed to pose... With the flawlessness of toph at her prime, one can assume that katara, if she were willing to fight, would take out a lot of all these characters, even Amon, one by one or perhaps multiple at a time.
The fight properly needs a clear head, one thing most if these characters doesn't have and katara has in abundance 😊😊

Unlikely. Katara would be folded in half at that age... The little bit Toph did killed her back; and if you pay attention to her actions she barely moves herself, but rather makes the swampmud move her around. Any place else she would've fared a lot worse which is likely one of the reasons why she stays in the swamp.
Amon 😂😂. The only category Katara beats Amon is in healing.

All these years watching Korra highlight I never knew Ming-hua don’t have arms lol. I always think this is just her fighting style to cover her arms in water. 🤯
Honestly she deserves a higher spot, maybe even above katara. She was the only physic water bender who didn’t need blood bending to take down an opponent, and that’s WITHOUT ARMS. Ming hua was an interesting villain.
hama should have been alot higher on the list because as you put toph as no. 1 for creating metal bending hama created blood bending as an idea no one else thought of and not only that pulling water from any source. no other on the list was so creative. at least 3 or 2 if not first place

One scary night, Katara met Hama....
Not to mention when katara did that octopus, tentacle 🐙 like, stance/ move. She also adapted earth bending into her water bending. Katara was unmatched.
Everyone above her in ranking were far more skilled and powerful. Most people who say katara is unmatched hasn’t even laid eyes on lok. Ming hua could do the tentacle move WITHOUT ARMS. Katara is incredibly powerful and was definitely unmatched for her time, but she was surpassed.
Surpassed only by Amon, because of his bloodbending, but not by Ming Hua and Unalaq! Ming Hua lost to Mako with a large amount of water and Kya fought very well against her being a healer@@TribalAchak
@@joaog_s2 Ming hua lost because she was struck by a bolt of lightning, which water both conducts and strengthens. Aang “died” the same way. When a lightning bender wants to kill you, it’s pretty much game over. Though It’s tough to say who’d win an actual fight, Ming hua’s greater skills with psychic bending and all undoubtedly surpass Katara.

One thing that Katara doesn't know, besides Kya fighting super well against her being a healer, Katara's skills are exceptional, and if you doubt it, Katara uses the tentacle technique even better than her.
With no bloodbending, the only character that could defeat Unalaq is probably Ming Hua. With bloodbending, it's Amon.
Amon could still defeat Unalaq even without bloodbending. Amon is a powerful waterbender. We just don't see him waterbend that much.

Yall forget that blood bending is not that op against other waterbenders. If the water bender is stronger than the bloodbender's power it has no effect. (katara being able to free herself from hama's blood bending, Amon freeing himself from tarloq's blood bending AND aang activating the avatar state to over power yakone's blood bending). So again just bc a character can blood bend does not mean they're unbeatable
@yann123 No, I disagree. Bloodbending is easily the most overpowered skill in the Avatar Universe. Did you see what Yakone did to everyone in the council? He performed Psychic Blood Bending on everyone, even with his hands tied. That room included some of the most powerful benders, such as a fully grown Toph Beifong, who is the most powerful earth bender in the scene, and Avatar Aang. Both were powerless against Yakone’s bloodbending capability.
Without the Avatar’s plot armor, it’s pretty hard to defeat blood bending. You’ll have to deal with it.
Even with the blood bending ,Amon would still lose to unalaq

Yakone is definitely the most dangerous water bender in the Avatar universe!
For me selecting Katara in 4th place is a crime, she literally mastered waterbending + the 2 sub bending elements in less than a YEAR, Amon and Unalaq are grown adults, imagine what Katara could be at her 20s/30s, but ofc she can't stay at the 1st place, Yue is literally the moon and can create giant waves without even an effort, more more than Katara, and by the way she can bend while being a spirit is just insane. Katara should've been at the 2nd place for me.

It wouldn't be fair to compare Aquaman to other characters in this universe. Aquaman is physically on par with the likes of Wonder Woman and despite being weaker has gone toe to toe with Superman and won. Aquaman is also superior to a few literal Gods and even has the Trident of Poseidon, so he has a weapon that was literally blessed and used by the God of the sea and water in general. Aquaman would not only be the most powerful water bender surpassing someone like Katara 1000x over, but he'd also be the strongest character easily obliterating even the avatar state with ease. The avatar at their strongest is only Island level while Aquaman is easily planetary+.

Ming-Hua is just on another level IMO, Hama is psycho, Katara is so well rounded and versatile (can heal and bloodbend), and Kya uses water as if she was using air.... but Amon is truly in my opinion the best, he technically cannot be defeated unless it's by an avatar.

These commenters are so deluded. Katara is extremely powerful, yes, and a world class water bender and healer, but she is NOT a blood bending master.
She showed prodigy potential, but she never mastered this art. By choice.
Amon literally used blood bending to take away peoples ability to bend the elements, and not even Katara was able to heal that or reverse the effects. Katara also never learned spirit bending.
Her being your favorite character does not make her the most powerful. She was appropriately ranked. Great video 👍
The thing about katara is your basing her abilities from where she was in TLA. She couldve been even more powerful between then and LOK.

You are right about everything you said about Unalaq but It's not fair count his feats as the dark avatar and if you are going to count this version of him you should also include in the list everyone who had access to Avatar State... That being said Amon > Unalaq but Unavaatu > Amon..... Amon is by far the greatest water bender prodigy of both series....

Number 1 and 2 are a Spirit and an Avatar, no one puts her in the number one above them, for the normal benders though she is number 1 and should be number 3 on this list, it is not glazing to recognize her abilities and status as the best and strongest normal waterbender we have seen in both shows.

Probably bad writing, as is usual for Korra, but nobody, not even Katarra, came close to Amon's sheer mastery of the art, including the best display of blood bending we saw in the entire cannon. He could destroy your chi pathways to emulate an aspect of energy bending. Nobody else came close. That's the same level of bending innovation as Toph inventing metal bending.

no problem about Yue, but Katara is the real master of water bending, she deserves to be on top. She was only around 14 during her journey with the avatar. So she is the strongest, she can even beat Unalaq in a battle following with Amon.
I never thought about Ming Hua was simultaneously doing like 5 kinds of water bending whenever we saw her fight. I would have tied her with Amon. I know blood bending is the pinnacle technique in water bending. But her ability to do all of that while having no arms is incredible.

Im glad to see someone finally give unalaq credit as the best base combat waterbender. As a villian he is by far the worst and that makes many people write him off, but his skills as a waterbender cannot be overlooked.

All bloodbenders are by definition better than all other benders. Amon 1, yakone 2, tarrlok 3, this top 3 is undenieble
people always underestimate kya simply because she lost to zaheer and minghua even though she was 55 years old during the fight, was rusty cause she spent most of her life traveling the world, etc... kya could probably be higher on the list in her prime
Yet people also always say Katara is better than Hama even though Hama was ancient, lived in the Fire Nation and couldn't practice her bending as a result or risk getting caught and quite frankly didn't fight to win, but to make Katara bloodbend.

@@lovelias She never changed her mind in that. She literally taunts her into bloodbending "don't let them hurt eachother". It's clear she wanted Katara to bloodbend there. Though she likely was surprised it worked right away. That or she expected Katara to bloodbend Aang and Sokka instead of her. But it suited her goals either way so she wasn't going to protest. Again, evidenced when she goes laughing to prison after congratulating Katara.

In The Legend Of Korra, Katara was regarded as the best water bender. We only saw Katara as a young teenager who had just been a master for about a year. I would imagine she was way stronger in her prime. I think she should hold the number one spot.
I'm pretty sure they said she was the best healer but nonetheless katara in her prime would soo cool!
Katara is restricted in use of the bloodbending that it can only be used during a full moon and it effects the mental state so she doesn't use it often. The father and the two brothers were known to use it without a moon. Those three also did not hesitate to lose their minds over the bloodlust of being killers. Not only that Amon found out a way to take away bending using his bloodbending ability.

It shouldn't be nothing difficult. There is H2O in the air. It's not like she needed to create a chemical reaction to get it. The amount of water you can get is low. From the air you can get 30g from 1m³ in best conditions. And the main reason why nobody else is using it is probably because there is no f**king water in air on south and north pole as it's below 0

My goodness! Watching this list makes me want to watch the entire Avatar series. I have yet to see it. Though I’m kind of familiar with some characters I’m no where proficient in the hows and knows dealing with benders.
If you count Unalaq as dark avatar, then count Korra as Avatar too. Plus Katara is unbloodbendable she said; "my bending is more powerful than yours hama, your technique is useless on me" Katara's bending is like superior. She is the only one who can bend two sub bendings at the same time

Still waiting for a Waterbender to completely master temperature control and Steambending. We've seen Katara bend steam when she helped to destroy the Fire Nation drill. We even saw her create fog when she acted as the Painted Lady. However, nobody ever frequently incorporates steam and water vapor into their Waterbending except for Hama, who only uses it to convert water vapor into water to extract water from thin air. This requires a waterbender to condense and cool the water vapor, and obviously turning water into ice also requires cooling water. Katara creating fog during her Painted Lady act would have required her to heat the water up. Based on that, we know that Waterbenders should be able to control the temperature of their water.
Nickalodeon would have never done this because it would have been too violent, but it would be much more deadly in combat for Waterbenders to wield scalding hot water against their enemies so that the water wouldn't only deal blunt force damage or cutting damage, but also heat damage. Related to this, if one were to master Steambending to the point where they could flash enough water to steam at once, they could use this ability to generate pressure explosions as destructive as Combustionbending since steam takes up much more volume than liquid water. Steambending also opens up many more sources of water to the user. Hama demonstrated this by bending the water vapor in her immediate vicinity into small amounts of water, but seeing how the most powerful Waterbenders are able to bend water from great distances, it should be possible to bend the water in the clouds from the ground and then condense them as a water source. A Steambender would also be able to wield hot steam as a deadlier version of airbending, creating gouts of steam capable of burning victims, or gathering a large amount of invisible humidity and then condensing parts of it into water or ice for unpredictable attacks. One could even just freeze a person instantly with invisible water vapor.
And then you could take this even further, so long as your morals are more questionable, by combining temperature control, Icebending, and Steambending with Bloodbending. A Steambender who can also Bloodbend would be able to make their foes simply explode on the spot, and a Bloodbender can also freeze their foes' internal organs. In fact, Avatar Kyoshi actually froze the heart and lungs of one of her enemies to instantly kill him, so we know it's possible. And to maybe use Bloodbending for something more ethical, a Bloodbender with healing abilities could theoretically heal someone using the liquids already present in that person's body, healing them without the need for an external water source.
Saying Unalaq is 1 is like saying Aang is the best water bender because he's the avatar
Katara's waterbendeing style is more unique than you might think. Her basics are self taught which already makes it unique, was taught northern style and mastered it. I don't think she mastered or even got close to mastereing southern style since she spend not even a week with Hama. Her bloodbending is basic, but being one of only two bloodbenders at the time already makes you unique. What people seems to often forget is that while she learned northern style properly, she is still mostly self taught and spend more time among earthbenders. Her movement and technic is closer to that of an earthbender.
Her dual with Hama is a great example. She blocks and strike most of the time rather than using her opponent's strengths against them, while Hama fights like a proper waterbender by redirecting Katara's attacks.
This could explain why Tarlok's and Korra's style of waterbending is also aggressive compared to their relatives in the North. Seems like the South Pole was affected a lot by this.

Katara in her prime is the most powerful waterbender. She is the best healer in the world, learnt blood bending in minutes and overpowered the creator of blood bending… Her big scale waterbending feats are comparable to avatar state korra’s feats… And she started from absolute zero. She is absolutely the most talented and skilled waterbender of all time. Of course she didn’t develop blood bending due to moral reasons, but I believe if she had, she could’ve been a bloodbender at the level of Amon and Yakone. Actually, blood bending won’t work on a stronger waterbender, that’s why the avatar state negates blood bending. So I think not even Amon Yakone or Tarrlok could blood bend katara because she is just the better waterbender

this is simply not realistic. The only time katara blood bent was when there was a full moon. Amon could easily take her out and that’s okay. She was the best water bender of her time but Amon easily beats her unfortunately
I don't think Katara stood the chance against Amon. she would just lose her bending like the rest. Amon was way too strong so that could resist another bloodbender and recover within minutes after being struck by lightning while Aang was healing for weeks after Azula's attack. Amon is the strongest waterbender in my book.

Of course she didn't develop blood bending not due to moral reasons but because she didn't know that could be done and nobody else did because Hama was the first to develop it. And it's a good thing that Katara lobbied against blood bending because when blood bending is used on someone it causes psychological effects on a person. And Avatar Ang and Avatar Korra never learned and used blood bending

I want you guys to think about this real quick, bloodbending requires an extremely high level of water bending, that’s why most waterbenders cant bloodbend without the moon, here’s another thing to think about, psychic bending is the ability to bend without any movement, that also requires a high level of mastery to pull it off, yakone and Amon are psychic blood benders that doesn’t need the moon to blood bend why are they not number 1 & 2? With tarrlock right behind him bc let’s not forget that he blood bend 6 ppl at the same time knocking them unconscious, yakone psychic blood bend a whole courtroom(without moon) and blood bend aang which aang needed avatar state to break out, and then there’s Amon who brought it to a level that he could take away bending.
Ang could take away bending as well a nd Korra was the only Avatar that could give a bender back their bending. No other Avatar or bender can do that.

Amon is the Greatest water bender, he defeated many benders without using his bending, he can overcome the blood bending grip and can even take away one's bending.
we all know Katara was number one, although one through three are insane benders, Katara was a CHILD, and literally self-taught. she was able to master multiple techniques, and every water bending aspect.

Amon is without a doubt the strongest waterbender of all time. His skill and strength are so impressive that no one would ever beat that. He could take away bending permanently and without a chance of it being reversed by healer, even a healer as talented as Katara.

She's indeed the catalyst who made it known to the world, but it was already used centuries before. Here's an example: Let's say on a foreign island who never had any contact with the world, someone discovers that you can make fire by using stones, would you say they "invented" lighting stones? Or rather they discovered it?
And excuse me, bloodbending is not "bending the blood itself", it's "bending the water INSIDE the blood". Just like mudbending and plantbending are about bending the water inside mud and plants. So if Kyoshi froze someone's water inside someone's blood, thus freezing someone's blood, then yeah she did bloodbend. Unless we haven't read the same book.
