Monster Hunter: World [Should you rely on Defenders Armor at the Start of the game] PROS and CONS

Monster Hunter World is a game where people longing to build and create a “New World” gather together to explore a vast and beautiful environment that is untamed with plenty of monsters roaming about free. I recently started a new play through in MHW. I forged a bone set and replaced a piece or two through LR.
When I got to HR, I used a piecemeal set with a few defender pieces instead of forging a custom HR set. I ended up with full defender gear by the end of HR for the defense value. I also built the defender weapon once I got into the elder dragons.
I just got into MR. Now the real building begins - weapons and armor.

I ended up mixing some zorah magdaros pieces with the defender gear since the defender weapons have good blast status on them and the blast attack pushes them further

Hiya! I recently joined monster hunter world and got into high rank a few days ago. Currently trying to transition out of the defender armor and weapons. What kind of armor recommendations do u have? I already swapped out the chest for the rathalos beta chest for the weakness exploit but looking for more suggestions too!

I just happened upon this video.
The most time efficient thing to do would be to keep the defender set (upgrade a couple pieces if you need more defense) and finish the base game. Master Rank/Iceborne equipment is much stronger.
But if you want to maximize your playtime in the base game there's lots of options. Your weapon will dictate what armor skills are most useful.
