The Mansion family wasn't caught and thrown in jail for decades, they were killed by an old school actor with a flame thrower and his stunt double. Hitler didn't off himself in a bunker, he was destroyed in a raid at a theater by a couple of commandos, and he went with the rest of the higher ups of the National Socialist Workers Party of Germany. ( Probably made Normandy easier). The post civil war wasn't marked by the KKK and carpet baggers, but by bounty hunters and wild gangs. Thus the violence is a part of everyday life, with the heros being just as violent as the villains.

And so Marcellus sent Jules and Vincent. Remember the combination lock on the briefcase...666. And remember Tim Roth's reaction later in the diner scene when Jules opens the briefcase and shows Tim what's inside. Pulp fiction.
I'd not heard this before but I guess it makes some sense. I always thought that as Tarentino is such a movie buff, that it was a reference to an old film noir movie called 'kiss me deadly'. If you haven't seen it, check it out and you'll see what I mean.
