      Alex Nail Photography Received my Northwest book soon after your reply what an incredible piece of work Alex. Well done fantastic achievement given the unpredictable weather that region is known for.

    I like the minimalist decor in your new office 😉

      Ha yes. Although I don’t like calling the outdoors my office. My actual office is just as boring as everyone else’s and that’s where I spend most of my time

      Thank you! I wished I had shot it now tbh when I’m a bit better with the video side, but I do have more Drakensberg videos on the way :)

    Drakensberg just moved to the top of my list. Providing I survive the rapture of course.

    Ahhhh, I loved it! Also really like the horizontal shot of the cutback, sadly I only shot verticals. Dunno why though. Glad you had the time to edit one more of these. ;-)

    Beautiful Images Alex, I really liked the longer shots. The haze added a lot of atmosphere!
    PS: the problem with the focal plane of the 16-35 lens seems to happen quite a bit. I have the same problem but didn't manage to get it fixed yet. I also learned how to work around it but sometimes also forget about it and screw up the detail in parts of an image

    • @alexnail

      Michael Breitung thanks Michael. I’ve actually had 3 copies of the 16-35 and they all went the same way. Canon service can’t quite seem to get them back to ‘new’ either which is a real pity. I’m holding out for the RF 15-35 now!

      @@alexnail Yea, if they bring an upgraded 5Dsr sensor into the R System and then this lens I'm in :-)

    Epic and inspirational video of your journey in the Drakensberg Alex. Stunning photographs mate. I have been considering upgrading (?) to the 16-35 from my 17-40mm - until watching this video; is it the latest 16-35 f4 lens that has the problem or the F2.8 lens?

    • @alexnail
      @alexnail  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andy Chattaway I think it’s a problem with highly optimised wide angle lenses. Guy Richardson had similar problems with the Nikon equivalents. You have to baby them!

      @@alexnail It seems to me that Nikon and Canon have ongoing quality control issues. I first learnt this when reading a book by a professional photographer who advised 'when buying a lens try three and keep the best one.' WTF we shouldn't have to do that.

    • @alexnail
      @alexnail  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andy Chattaway well I have bought 3 and they were all perfect and gradually picked up issues. I just think they are precision bits of kit and probably need to be treated that way.

      @@alexnail Yes that's true. I did calibrate my lenses to my camera and I'm guessing you did too.

    • @alexnail
      @alexnail  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andy Chattaway yes, but calibration only helps with front/back focussing issues when using AF. The problem I’m experiencing is related to lens elements or groups coming out of alignment.

    Great video Alex. Loved the b roll at the beginning which added some good storytelling to this episode - well thought out and some fun moments. Your content is always great but on each new video the presention and content goes up. It's quite rare to see/hear you get excited as you did at the forthcoming sunrise and then to switch to your level headed compositional self was so cool a transition, lol. Those moments and your after shot analysis is a great learning tool and I would say anyone that attends your workshops certainly get their monies worth. Looking forward to the next instalment. One other question. Are you keeping any images back for a Drakensberg book? 🤔

    • @alexnail
      @alexnail  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alan Coles thanks a lot Alan - really glad you’re enjoying these and thanks for the positive feedback. I think I’ll do some things differently in Iceland (might switch to more tutorial based videos) but I’m happy that I can reach a decent standard!
      I’d love to do a Drakensberg book but I have to find a market first unfortunately!
