I find weeding much easier when using transfer tape. Weeding on transfer to transfer tape, then positioning and transferring with the tape much the same way stencil cut vinyl is transferred. Kiss cut the material with the backing still on it and pick it up off it's backing with transfer tape while weeding and apply. Transfer tape comes in various adhesion levels from low to high tack.
HI Peter. You do not need a lot of power as the foil is not much thicker than what is on a foiled piece of laminate. I always cut a sq and figure the power out. You can cut it without it being on any product
I have done the same with vinyl, not sure if it comes in metallic finish but if it does how it will be different from this probably much more expensive foil?
Mike Clark, I’m trying to locate a company to do this work. I’m in Florida. All the laser engraving companies I spoke to look at me like I have three heads. Any suggestions where I can find a company to do this or do you have a company that can do this. I’m a furniture maker (55 years) and always need engraving for various projects. Thanx
Hello thank you for this video by any chance do you have other video where you explain how to use the raster and vector in the laser . Im so confuse about what is raster and vector . I have a universal 40 watts
Would you link this item in the description please. I looked up laser foil and only can find it for laser printers only.. Not laser cutters.. Or is that the same stuff?
Have you considered first etching the lacquer a touch underneath the full design, and then placing foil on top and running the machine even faster and cooler on the same path to just melt the gold into the groove made by the first pass? It's an idea I've been toying with in my head, to get that old school carved-and-gilded look.

So you're using your laser as a vinyl cutter. I wouldn't use your thumb to smooth out the edges use a soft rubber brayer so you don't catch an edge and pull up the foil.
Thank you for this video. I wasn't able to find any clear explanation on how to implement this product until now. You've opened up many doors for me.
Hey Mike, very nice video and product. Well done.
Really good demonstration of the two techniques. Thanks!
This is the best raster v. vector example I've ever seen in my thirty five years' experience. Thank you for making this!
Totally
Finally a video that gets to the point 🎉😊

Where do you get this special foil from? Looks good. Wondering if it would work with my 3.8 watt diode laser. Thanks again
Shalom family, this is sweet! I love this!! Keep inspiring in Jesus name!!!
WOW, amazing work!
That is really cool, and looks awesome! I'm going to have try that with my NEJE.
I like your presentation with text and video - thanks
This is a great tutorial. All I could think whilst watching it though was "Jeez, this dude sounds like James Hetfield".
Hello Mike,
Nice video !!
Is the foil the same as used in a laser printer or laminator ??
Thanks

Thank you @Mike Clarke for this informative video.
You can order laser foil from major suppliers such as Trotec or Rowmark. Not on EBay
yes i want one

Can not find any in the UK so frustrating
@@straywelshone did you ever find any in the uk?
What foild brand is that. It looks thicker than the tranfer foil im using.
Great, and potentially useful, video. Thanks. I'm wondering, though, what sealer you use, if any, to protect the foil?
Hi Jere. Sorry been down for a month. This is just decorative so I did not use a sealer

Michael S Same Foil but this is laser foil which contains no PVC
What laser foil is this?
Specific supplier for the foil?🙌
in the US go to Johnson Plastics or in Canada Trotec Laser
I'd like to see what the raster etch looks like with all the foil removed. Does the foil mask so you get a matt-gloss contrast and if so, how much?
does your bed go up and down to cater for the focal point of the laser? thats a thick piece of wood .... Nice whatever.
Mike, which Epilog machine are you using? Cost ? I’m in process of starting laser engraving/ cutting business👍

Try asking that question to Mr Google. It is a very basic one and it sounds like you need to do a lot of homework, before turning on your laser!

Sadly not available in uk
very cool, I'm going to have to try the foil.
I’m guessing this doesn’t work too well with images or logos?

Just a tip, the metallized shelf paper at hardware stores is the same stuff, and way cheaper!
It just has to be PVC free to avoid damaging the machine.

do you have a product name for the foil. because when you just type in laser foil all that comes up is heat transfer foil for printers or iron on.

How is this better then a metallic vinyl?
Hi Matthew The vinyl is typically PVC based which creates chlorine gas. I suggest you check for this. If not than you can use this also
how can I ask for this laser foil in ebay or in the maerket?
Laser foil is available from Trotec in Canada or one of the plastic suppliers in the US
My Epilog does not do raster and vector at the same time. It will do the raster job first, then the vector cut when in combination mode.
CO2 or fiber laser?
CO2
where do u buy this laser foil from

why not just cut the foil first then stick it ?
If you place the foil on first and cut it this way than the line up is perfect. If you cut and than place it on you can lose registration
With enough practice, registration is pretty easy. A vinyl cutter is better suited for this type of work.
When cutting the graphic on a plotter, cut the outline of the board and you will have instant registration.
Registration is spot on if you don't mess with the registration, like the way YOU did it,the second raster and vector looks really good.
So you're using your laser as a vinyl cutter. I wouldn't use your thumb to smooth out the edges use a soft rubber brayer so you don't catch an edge and pull up the foil.
If you were going to do this, why not just use a vinyl cutter and apply the sticker to it? There are metallic vinyls that would look the same as this.
HI Ryan. Try you can do that but a lot of people do not have vinyl plotters so this is an alternative Cheers
