  • It’s hard to know what’s the most impressive aspect of the Outer Reef 640 - the enormous galley, the vast flybridge or the bank vault of an engineroom. Hugo takes us on a full tour of this ocean-cruising behemoth...

    I think I would have incorporated the dinning area into the galley and still had room for a proper salon above. Beautifully appointed and well done!

      Kitchen yachts, aka galley aft, don't have to be ugly but 99% of makers chose make them ugly. Once in a while you'll find the galley gets hidden away beneath panels, but most manufacturers seem to want to make their boats as hideous as possible.

    The obvious gaskets on the doors
    The window on the engine room door to make sure it is safe to enter.
    There are no squeaky floors ! A pet peeve of mine.

      George Ferme if you want to cross the Atlantic you can spec larger tanks but of course you lose some space in the accommodation . Most people prefer to have more accommodation than the extra tankage for 3000nm which you may only use once or twice in its lifetime , better to use bladder tanks for that one off passage and then send them back after which is what many transatlantic passage makers do . But the yacht is fully ocean capable and many sister ships have racked up tens of thousands miles offshore .

    Poor man's Marlow

    • @mrdiavel4807
      @mrdiavel4807 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      spacecoasttactical a Marlow is not a true explorer yacht.
      It’s a fast coastal cruiser with skinny draft , it wouldn’t have the same ocean bashing ability of this boat which is heavier and deeper draft and much deeper forefoot . Marlow is for those that want to go fast with a trawler lookalike top , the Outer Reef is a true blue water cruising yacht fully custom built for each owner .

    • @spacecoasttactical
      @spacecoasttactical 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrdiavel4807 Not with a range of 1500nm it isn't. You don't know what you're talking about. I've crossed the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Indian Ocean aboard a Marlow 80 and a Nordhavn 63 (or are you going to tell me that a Nordhavn isn't a passagemaker either?) For comfort, stability in big seas and seaworthiness, I'll take the Marlow any day. David Marlow's hull design does exactly what he says it will.

    • @mrdiavel4807
      @mrdiavel4807 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      spacecoasttactical nordhavn is a different animal , it’s a full displacement extremely heavy ocean passage maker but of course also very slow , most max out at around 9 knots . Any well founded ocean capable yacht can cross oceans , assuming it’s built very well and has a pointy bow and extremely good down flooding and righting moment factors (and minimum CE Cat A open ocean certification ) then all you need is the fuel capacity which is easily achievable with one way bladder tanks , you use up that fuel first and then roll them up and send them back to the hire company on arrival , then you haven’t wasted lots of Sq ft of accommodation for fuel tanks that only get used once in a blue moon, lots of motoryachts yachts that cross the Atlantic or pacific under 70’ use this system of extra bunkerage . Which Marlow did you sail across the pacific or Atlantic ? I pretty much know all of them so would be interesting to know the name of the Marlow yacht you crossed an ocean in .
