Absolutely right. It was suggested by the Honda dealer to very loosely zip tie it out of the way. I've since come to realize that is not a good idea. I rotated the bars forward for ergonomic reasons, and that moved the line above the display.
Congrats, great to see that your still making videos. I remember when I first got my 2014 250L, you were the first videos I watch and you inspired me at start my channel, been a lot of video miles sense then!
Oh my goodness, It has been a long while. You're doing great with your channel. I followed your video`s quite a lot, but more so now that you have the 300L. I also enjoy just vicariously riding along through that great countryside of yours. Fun times.
Picked up my 300LA from Kelowna Powerhouse on June 8! First bike since the early 80s. Have had lots of fun riding forest service roads in the Shuswap the last few days. 2nd gear will pull through anything!
Oh, that's fantastic. What a fun bike to get back into it on. Happy for you. And yes it's quite capable. A few niggly points but overall it's a wonderful bike.
So happy to see you on that CRF300L. I own a CRF250L partly due to your previous videos with that machine. I couldn't be happier with my CRF250L. It broke my heart when you sold yours. I'll be visiting much more now that you are back to the trails!
Yeah I ended up missing the 250L. I had it just the way I wanted it. This 300L is great though, and down the line I'm sure I'll be personalizing it somehow. Thanks J :-)
Walked in to VI Power Sports in Nanaimo two weeks ago and walked out with my own CRF300L! No waiting! My first dual sport since owning a ‘73 Yam 175! Last time riding the back woods was ‘79!! Last week was first time back on the same Vancouver Island trails I used to ride and the rush of adrenaline had me going for it just like I used to! Must remember...when I was young If I wiped out, it would hurt...now? I think I would BREAK!🤣👴🏻 Easy there old man my family would say! Lol
Haha, congrats on the purchase and for getting back at it after all that time. That's awesome. And yup, young bodies feel like they're indestructible. Old bodies, not so much. Keep yourself in one piece and have a blast :-)
Not too many dealers will have stock. Mostly special order on this one. In the next video coming out Tuesday I mention my thoughts on upgrading from the 250L. Thanks Kenny :-)
What a great first video to share with us on the 300l! Fantastic scenery (nothing new there with where you live!), the bike looks and sounds great, and yes, I bet, being able to hit those back country roads once again must be a mighty good feeling. So glad you were able to get it sooner vs. later so you can enjoy more of the riding season, and I can't wait to see what you share with us in the weeks and months ahead. I kept on thinking I'd get a CB500x as my return to motorcycling bike, but at my age of 60, this bike has all the power I'd ever need, I have no desire to spend a lot of time on the big highways, and as you and many others who now have the new 300l have commented, better torque and power delivery all across the power band. Just seems like a great all-around. Ride safe, enjoy and we all look forward to the next ride--congrats!!
Thank you. I looked at several options, but in the end the 300L stood out as best to serve the use I would put it to. Capable on dirt and really good on paved twisty rural roads.
Congratulations, John. I really missed your gravel trips on the 250L and looking forward to more content with the new 30th, (Clyde on stariods). Stay Safe Regards from S Africa Clive

Congrats on the new ride & thx for the upload! I have my order in and patiently waiting the call from the dealer. I am just outside of Vancouver so perhaps it's on one of those cargo ships in the harbor also haha. Enjoy the new ride!
Yes I definitely like the bike so much I put a deposit on one. Came back from a two week vacation and found out I went from 3rd in line to receive my bike to 4th in line. Very disappointed and my salesman could not give me a good reason why. I guess someone more important bumped me down. New subscriber!
Oh that's sad. Well I hope the one place in line difference does not mean a much longer wait. I will say, the vast majority of owners have found the wait was worth it. Once you have it, all the tension over the delays will disappear. Thanks for subscribing Mark :-)
It will run a little hot until Clyde breaks in, normal for most engines. Also tuned very lean for emissions. Glad to hear there's enough power for you. You don't usually do much difficult single track or gnarly hill climbs so you probably won't have issues with the touchy throttle others have mentioned. Nothing compared to my 450l. Open to closed throttle is very abrupt and Jerry but you do get used to it. Nice to have the extra power though. Congrats and good luck with Clyde. 😁
Thanks Frank. I do not notice any touchy throttle on the 300L that I've hear others say. Seems smooth enough to me. This one does run hotter though; not just because it's new. Quite a difference in the heat on the right side from the pipe compared to the 250 when new. Yeah, they all get tuned rather lean. I agree, this bike will serve my needs just fine. Enjoy your riding :-)
When I had my 250L I routed the front brake hose through the handlebar so it would not flop in front of the gages. You may be able to do that with the 300L also.
Well, I'll take another stab at it and hope my knees won't cause me problems. I injured my right knee doing a round kick to the bag 6 months ago and it's not healed as well as I'd like, so I have to watch it! But I'll have fun doing it :-)
Winner winner chicken dinner! Hot damn John, I think you made the right decision. Super glad to hear about the wide ratio, and the wider steps in the 4-5-6 range. Exactly what we've all LONG been waiting for. I think this 300L is the exact sweet spot the 250 class dual sports have been crying for, and I'm super excited that we will get to meet the new beast through your well experienced eyes, a guy who will fairly appreciate the nuances, instead of whine about it not being a 350 KTM for shredding extreme enduro / motocross.
Thanks, man. It does look like it hits that sweet spot. I hear you re: the types that always compare out of it's type and price class then complain. It's great value; around the price of descent e-bicycle!
I have a Rally version what i don't like is the noise the bike makes like rattling you can hear that at 7:33 my CB300R which has the same engine runs a lot smoother and quieter maybe because it has like 14000km. Otherwise i like the bike.
Yup, those noises are typical but not consistent with these engines. Some get away without that issue; some don't. Combination of valve noise and the Cam chain tension assembly. No worries unless it is drastic and becomes more than just the rattle.

Hi, did you experience any rattling noise around 4500 and 5500rpm when cruising around? It is more noticeable in 3,4 and 5 gears. It seems to be on all CRF300Ls here in the USA
No, I can't say I have. I know what you mean though. I had that on the 250L. I replaced three OEM CCT's before fixing it with a manual CCT from Krieger. I hear the CCT and the valves on this, but nothing abnormal. Typical thumper sounds.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for your your hard work producing a great video.
Since mine feels smooth to me, yours shouldn't have any serious abruptness to it. If you have excess play in the throttle, adjust it with the adjusting nut at the bars to eliminate as much as possible without causing a surge when you turn the bars to full lock. Make sure the throttle feels smooth (engine off) when you slowly twist to full throttle and ensure there's a nice even tension pulling it back. If there's any snag or uneven tension either way, have the dealer look at it. There shouldn't be anything binding on new cables, but you never know. Also, check your idle speed. It should be about 1440 rpm when fully warmed. A side note: If you have never had a fuel injected bike before, it will seem touchy compared to carbureted bikes. A perception thing.
