One of those rare bands that sounds so much better live than recorded.

I'm a 61 year old headbanger that saw them in Orlando years ago at an EDBD concert put on by WJRR. One of the headliners, great show and I was in the mosh pit. He wrote a great song after his child died, RIP.

Sevendust broke out of the unlikely state of Georgia in 1997... they were discovered by Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French. They were a mix of metal, soul and industrial grooves and their self-titled debut album in '97 got a lot of fanfare and sold gold in the US (half million copies) w/ no MTV support at the time as the band toured relentlessly into 1998.
Sevendust's line-up is still the same as when they started - Lajon Witherspoon (lead vocals), Clint Lowery (guitar/ vocals), Morgan Rose (drums/ vocals), John Connelly (guitar) and Vince Hornsby (bass)
With Sevendust gaining a huge fanbase, their 2nd album 'Home' in 1999 & got some MTV airplay but sold gold again in the US as the band played Woodstock '99... They also did a tribute song to the late singer of the band Snot, Lynn Strait, which became a hit single - "Angel's son".
With Creed and Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park selling millions of copies by 2001, Sevendust hoped that their 3rd album 'Animosity' would be a bigger commercial success... but it stalled after selling gold again. But their most successful singles came - 'Praise'... 'Live again'...
Tragedy struck the band while on tour; the singer Lajon's brother Reginald was killed in Atlanta, Georgia and the band canceled their tour.
Lajon said Sevendust fans' support helped him grieve after losing his brother and the band returned w/ their 4th album 'Seasons' in 2003 and were back on tour... Guitarist Clint Lowery left Sevendust for a few years to work w/ his brother Corey Lowery on the project Dark New Day... and Sonny Mayo (guitar) replaced from 2005 to 2008... Subsequent Sevendust records ('Next' in 2005... 'Alpha' in 2007... and 'Chapter VII: Hope & sorrow' in 2008) were not as successful but the band were still headlining tours ... selling out shows... and their albums always charted in the US.
Lajon remarked that early in their career, they wondered why Sevendust was not as successful as some of their peers... but a decade or so later, he looked around and wondered where his peers had gone...
Sevendust ignored the trends and focused on album after album... tour after tour... Their 14th album 'Truth killer' was released in 2023 and still made the charts w/ almost no promotion or media hype... Sevendust announced a full US tour in Sept./Oct. 2024 to mark the 21st anniversary of their 4th album 'Seasons'...

He has. Touring for 25 years. One of the best and most consistent live bands out there. In this act, he’s just feeling the vibe. He’s normally way more under control

Probably the tightest band live I’ve ever seen. And I’ve been around a long time 😂. They are all great musicians. I saw them back in the late 90’s at a small venue in Austin TX and they did a cover of Metallica’s Master of Puppets that was better than any live Metallica version of their song. Good stuff. 🤘😎🤘

You should listen to sevendust in another setting. You hit it on the nail, he is soul personified. But this was different 😂😂
Edit: yessir, he can absolutely still sing his ass off. The released another album last fall and it was amazing. Please check it out.
