Some say that there isn't much difference between expensive wine and cheap wine so we decided to get a selection of the cheapest wines we could find, including the notorious Buckfast tonic wine, to see if our TRYers could find some extraordinary taste in the ordinary wines.

As an American, a cheap wine test without the presence of Two Buck Chuck (Charles Shaw wines). It's only $2 in California though as shipping it elsewhere adds to the price. In California, the bottle and the cork/top take up more than 50% of the cost. It's also a surprisingly decent wine for the price.

My cousin lives a few cities away from me. Years back one of her acquaintances won a winery tour for 6 & I got invited through my cuzn & her friend I was talking to at the time. Long story short, while we did read the snobbery list of what pairs with what & listened to the experts speak, we both just ended up saying, "just pour the wine in my glass" to each new wine. Our "server/expert" commented that it was refreshing to have real people who didn't give a damn about what experts say & filled only our cups full. The acquaintance tried to order wine at the bar after to match with his bar food. The bartenders just shrugged & laughed him off. Moral of the story, drink what you like with what you like. Dont let someone else choose for you.

Our version of Buckfast here in the states is Mogan David 20/20. Affectionately known as Mad Dog 20/20. And yes, the memories (what I do remember) are all bad.

Nah man. I guess they are similar in a way, but buckfast tastes way different. MD is deffo trash wine. Different class of trash.
MD has more alcohol and comes in many different artificial flavours, it's not wine just alcohol and chemicals. Buckfast is cheap red wine with herb extracts and about as much caffeine per ml as an energy drink.

Coming from the area where Buckfast sells more than anywhere else, I can tell you I have seen many folk down a bottle in one go, the spend the evening drinking a second bottle. Also some bars have it on the gantry and sell it in measures.
