I miss this style of play...also love how Bird gets bumped, bumps the defender back, then splits the double team and makes them pay with a 3 point play. Love it.
What a player. Most fundamentally sound player to ever walk the court. Always moving/trying to get position, head always up and hands always active on defense, always looking to make the extra pass, always looking to get perfect position to grab the rebound, always hustling, plus pure and clutch shooter. I’d take Bird in his prime on my team over any player in history.
@Lucas And yet Bird swept Jordan TWICE. in head to head matchups, Larry dominates 17 to Jordan’s 11. So, in conclusion, Jordan was NOT better than Bird...yer just a fanboy who swallowed the marketing kool-ade.
Thanks fatal for another great post - keep 'em coming! Love the motion without the ball, Larry's hands, his hustle, long range shooting and unselfish passing. Nobody has ever had his all around skill set.
Larry was a clearly a better outside shooter. Took more 3's than Michael and shot a higher percentage of them. Dunks are a farely high percentage shot. Mike had many more than Bird. Sure, their fg% is even, but Larry made many more outside/longer shots. How many dunks did they each have? And yes credit to Jordan for being able to get to the rim to get those dunks. But Bird was a better outside shooter, rebounder, and disher. He also had more triple doubles. And his record against MJ is 23-11.
Bird also had nicer post moves. Jordan had the better defense. You're right about all your points, except I thought Bird had the advantage in field goal %age w/ all those extra lay-ups & close hooks he got by always being in beautiful positions to finish? I know Jordan's field goal %age was good to very good for a 2-guard.
Even the Jazz lost, this game was the beginning of Stockton & Malone. They only showed Bird highlights but you started to see the pick n roll game bloom in full confidence.
@guidi2005 Disagree, and Bird also said that, " Magic is the best player I've ever seen." He also said that Lebron was...he also said that he, magic, and mj were comparable in their primes.
They have the same lifetime shooting percentage and Jordan shot a hell of alot more, Jordan is way batter at getting buckets. Bird got 10 R a game Jordan 6, Bird played SF , Jordan SG, so I think that pretty even there. Bird was a great passer, Jordan was too, he just didnt do it that much :)
And Bird also was when he had Danny Ainge, which is saying much. Jordan's only great shooters in terms of consistent high level accuracy were Steve Kerr & BJ Armstrong. So in the 80s, he didn't have a consistently great shooter, even though Paxson was good and especially great in the clutch.
This is all highly-opinionated, but I've got Bird Top-10 all-time, Jordan Top-5. The dominant big men like Wilt The Big Dipper Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar & Bill Russell get highly underrated in these discussion, cause they were so huge and people expected them to dominate.

Me too!
Agreed. To ME, Larry Joe Bird is the TRUE GOAT.
Bird was better than Jordan.
@@capitanfuturo594 yep People love Jordan because he won 6 championships and can do insane dunks . Bird is best all round player ever.
Wide open corner jumper=SWISH
LARRY LEGEND
THE LEGEND !
Bird by all rights was the MVP that season. The f'ing media had an agenda.
Bird was better than Magic in this season 86/87
100%
Every time Bird shot, I expected the ball to go in.
The play ending in a shot starting 1:47 is as amazing a play as I've seen in NBA basketball.
There were some gems in this one for sure.
@MANCHESTER UNITED F.C LMAO
@M Hit the road dufus nobody on here cares about your pussy sport
That second shot by Bird @ 0:12 put even the Chief's rainbow to shame!
Bird was a better shooter, rebounder, and passer, then MJ.
And Bill Russell has almost twice as many rings as MJ.
I've been a hardcore Laker fan for longer than I'd like to say. Hated Boston throughout the 80's.
Wrong, Steve. Bill Russell only played with the Celts. But go ahead and make stuff up if it makes you feel smarter.
@Steve.josiah Aquino You edited your comment, bitchboy. Your comment even says "edited". You are a liar. Now go outside and roll around in the dirt.

Bird was a better passer & FT shooter than Jordan, too.
1:14 Bird had the quickest hands ever
no he didnt
@@iceill3425 yup
@@iceill3425 yes he did he had the best hand eye coordination to boot
Larry Joe owned the 80’s.
Larry Bird was the best basketball player in NBA on the 80's.
Great blocks by Parish, the one on Malone was pretty nasty. And Bird as usual just incredible.
At 0:21 what fundamentals!
At 2:24 Doubled and Physical Defense. Great Footwork and Post Game Knowledge.
Great D by Double Zero too
Paul Pierce? The supposed inventor of the step back jump shot?
Might want to watch Bird is this video. LOL!
Nobody had a better step back than bird
goat sf
Boston fans sure got their moneys worth from the Bird, Ainge, Parrish, DJ and McHale years.
*LARRY BIRD WAS THE BEST ALL-AROUND PLAYER IN NBA HISTORY.*
that's one of the all time great hustle effort plays on the the run down of the ball at 1:18
And the opponents were TOTALLY confused.
Good post fatal. I was a little too young to remember watching these games in the 80's so seeing these videos is great.
I'm a proud Laker, but Bird's jumper was a beautiful thing to behold.
He was the greatest damn player to ever play, even Magic and Kareem your boys said so!
@M
Why are you still here?
@M soccer sucks balls Americas pastime is baseball and football soccer has no chance whatsoever.
@@irishgrl because he’s a idiotic troll
Cause you respect great basketball
He looks incredible
Larry legend is just money …
Larry Legend
I was 8 years old at this game. Front row next to the entrance for both teams to go on the court
this is 1988 footage just to note that mark acres wasnt with them until 1988. thanks for the footage
Great full court pass by Parish too.
Larry Larry Larry
MJ is not the best at all things. In my opinion(like many others) bird's prime and overall career minus the rings was better than MJ's.
Even the Jazz lost, this game was the beginning of Stockton & Malone. They only showed Bird highlights but you started to see the pick n roll game bloom in full confidence.

Jordan is nowhere near the shooter Bird was. I seen them both play. Y’all love acting like Jordan is better at everything and he’s not
Steve.josiah Aquino No he’s not
Steve.josiah Aquino No you aren’t lol. Jordan is overrated as hell.
Steve.josiah Aquino And I’m older than you so stfu
I hate when he goes under n
@usnate1 I think Bird is the 5th best player in history but man he's no Jordan and he would be the first to tell you that

Larry is my #1, but he doesn’t deserve to be less than top 3. He’s the most well rounded player ever.
He just swept Jordan twice in playoffs
