    Utmost respect for Magic and MJ but Bird was the best all around player I've ever seen. I cant even think of another player in the conversation. The assists, the rebounds, the shooting from everywhere...I dunno...to me he is the best all around basketball player ever.

    Larry Bird is truly the greatest... He scored 38 points off of 8 dribbles. Count it, he literally dribbled the ball only 8 times on all his scoring plays.

    Let's just all agree that this was the golden era of the NBA. No attitudes. No celebrating a shot in the first quarter. The great players making each other greater. I for one feel privaliged to have been sitting in the 3rd row of the Boston Garden witnessing this and realizing how incredibly lucky I was to be there to witness it. Hail Larry! Hail Magic! Hail The Doctor! Hail Kareem and many more! Thanks for the memories.

      Those were indeed the Golden Days of the NBA class guys like Dr. J, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Moses Malone and Kareem-Abdul-Jabbar, not to mention James Worthy as well, didn't hear about this racial relations thing, it was a different time and a much happier time as well

      trha2222 Yeah Isiah Thomas was more the exception back in those days today it's sadly more the norm, more players act like Isiah Thomas than Julius Erving, that's a shame

    • @jjs777fzr
      @jjs777fzr 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +trha2222 It was actually Dennis Rodman who said something about Bird and Thomas continued it - but all the press wrote it up like it came from Thomas. Listening to Bird's recount he said it was a huge distraction to go in front of the camera with Isaiah and publicly state it didn't matter. With Bird and Magic as role models my generation at least I think cared less about color then todays mainstream media and Obama are teaching us. Hoop is hoop - and the only thing that mattered is playing a good game regardless of color.

      They (media) did. Rodman got a bit of a pass, being a rook or maybe 2nd yr man. Isiah took nearly all the heat on this. I felt a bit unfairly. I know he added fuel to fire, but Rodman started this mess. Bird tried to defend Isiah, he didn't with Dennis. Nor would I have.

Jordan played many more games but had 30 triple doubles.Bird had 69 (10 were in the playoffs) and avg more assists per game. Bird only Celtic to post a 40/20 game ever (44pts-22 reb vs Ind) Had highest winning % in NBA history at over 70%. First player to shoot over 50% FG and 90% FT for a season-did it 2 years

    Exactly. Ppl that were too young to watch the NBA in the 80's only see a White guy that can really play. They can't imagine that Bird could be the best of time, which he was. Wilt was dominant but Bird had more of that killer instinct. Bird was a better outside shooter than MJ, better rebounder, better passer, and a very good defender. Nearly had a quadrouple double in one game, with 9 steals, but refused to play the 4th quarter due to a 30 pt lead.

    • @Amick44
      @Amick44 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, they did. And their owner quit on them (at least so I think) too quickly as well. He was pissed that the following yr after their title, they lost in 1st round to New Jersey. Much to Erving's dismay, he shorty afterward unloaded Moses for an injured Jeff Ruland. Ruland never did anything after leaving Washington. Moses wasn't truly in his prime, but much better than Ruland at that point. Dr J didn't like having to play out his career on a so so team.

    @FavreianVengeance I do agree that if Bird wanted to he could have scored a lot more- could have won a scoring title or 2 but knew how the game should be played and always looked to distribute the ball. Jordan had better foot speed, greater jumping ability and an overall quickness advantage, but Bird had ambidexterity, a great fadeaway and was a better shooter, had greater range. Jordan did score more and his style was more 1 on 1-that is why I put him ahead as a scorer. I do prefer Birds game.

Then as Dr J descended, Larry started entering his prime. Way it goes. Same with Kareem and Moses in the 70's. Kareem is in his prime when Moses comes in. @epicpillowfightbattl So Jordan played with Pippen and Rodman and both are in the Hall of Fame and that's not a "stacked" team? And Phil Jackson is recognized as probably the greatest coach ever but it was all Jordan? Not knocking Jordan but its a fact that when the NBA expanded the teams were weakened. Jordan best 1 on 1 Bird best 5 on 5. Bird did do things that jordan never did.

      Pippen is a solid, legit HOFer. I feel Dennis is borderline and really was a specialist. Mostly rebounding and D, when needed.

      Expansion took talent away from established teams. All of the expansion teams basically got a top 5 to 10 pick. Surprised no one mentioned ANDREW TONEY. Don't know if he was on this 76ers team but no wonder he was nicknamed "The Boston Strangler"!

    @mrho4speed but only three championships with a stacked team. and bird had three mvp which isn't bad but jordan got 5 and got robbed in 1998.

      hahahah. Jordan didn't get an mvp until larry retired. Weak competion for MJ. All the great players were retired by the time MJ did anything significant hahaha

    oh yeah bigtime, homies with long skeleton on roids like le bron dont get that they suck, ego too big, and le bron given title in 2012 and kobe given 2009 adn 10 by nba telling refs to let them reach in no foul called and everything defender do is foul on them, bird was really great

    Plus his lack of athleticism like Jordan or Erving or Wilkins. I'm a Bulls fan and I say MJ and Bird are even.
