I had a patient that threw his colostomy bag at me when I opened his room door. The poop was all over me. I went to the nurse manager and she immediately said go home. I cleaned myself up, went home and said to myself, " you're done with nursing." Fourteen years later and I am still a nurse. I don't know where the courage comes from.
@@FC-eh7ll It was at a mental health hospital. He had a mental health diagnosis; this is why I did not take it to heart. He was at the hospital because he needed help. Some of the poop landed in my mouth- it tasted bitter. I got checked out and was fine. I've had lots of stuff happen to me at that hospital. A patient punched me in the eye and broke my glasses. A patient grabbed the injection syringe from my hand while I was about to give him his insulin and ran behind me to poke me.....you name it and I've been through it. It wore me out and I left mental health. I now do medical case management and homecare- less stress.

It sure does. I still have nightmares about “the poo code.” That was a patient with a bowel obstruction that went into cardiac arrest and required CPR. We were suctioning bowel contents out of her mouth to clear the airway until we managed to place an ET tube.

I had no clue there was such a thing!! Somehow, I thought ICU patients didn't poop 💩! I know, crazy, right! Ohh but I've looked it up now! OhMyGoodness! Can't we just pee when we're in that bad of shape??!
I just had a patient walking though the hall, shit the entire way back to his room, poop splashed everywhere 😢 I ran and told my charge then went back to start cleaning it up. My charge came and looked mortified. I told him, “This isn’t the worst thing that could happen today. Can you please get me a red bag?” That’s it. We gotta keep moving forward ❤️❤️

OMG I had to put one of those in a massively obese person (I’m not kidding-his weight was 530 odd pounds from a metabolic disorder) and I’m a 5 foot 2 120 pounds soaking wet woman. I thought my arm was going to disappear because his gluteal tissue was so massive. I had never wanted a veterinarian’s exam glove (that go up past the elbow) more than I did that day.
Blake it isn’t a foley. It is an indwelling urinary catheter and should be documented as such. Legally you can only document “Foley” if it is the brand being used. BTW I love, love your humor.
