I cannot BELIEVE that the Unforgettable Fire is regarded to be a "disappointment", and a "bad album"(in comparison to U2's other stuff). The Unforgettable Fire is one of U2's BEST albums.
This album is terrific, magical. First time I heard it was roughly 1992 when I was 12 and first heard them randomly on a paid tv commercial. Remember I was young and this was before the Internet. At my school people only talked about hair metal and rap in the 80's. NO ONE was talking about U2, REM, or even European alternative music (new wave etc) like Depeche Mode. I started with three heavy hitters: The Joshua Tree, Rattle & Hum, Achtung Baby. My mind was blown so I went deeper and bought Boy, October, War, The Unforgettable Fire and Under A Blood Red Sky. War was a bit later, think I got it by 1994 but by the time Pop released in 1997 I had every album but Passengers. Which I bought when I first heard about it in the fall of 1997, my first year of college. Sorry to ramble people but U2 can link my adolescence in a strange way. Alas I digress, The Unforgettable Fire for me is a masterpiece. The song and the album.
georgeharrison70 I so agree. I listened to “Joshua Tree” recently and found it a bit dated or maybe not so fresh with all the airplay it got. Meanwhile “The Unforgettable Fire” still sounds as good to me as it did the first time I remember hearing it over 30 years ago.
keith davies that’s bullshit....u2 and bono had to up there game after they listened to new gold dream 81,82,83,84 by simple minds and he openly admits they changed from just being a rock band to something far more sonic sounding..both the the unforgettable fire and Joshua tree are inspired by NGD and bono says often he is very proud of this album
Agreed. I love plenty of their radio hits but their collection of lesser known album songs and even b sides that were later released are astounding. People can whine and moan about them being rich sell outs and I don't particularly have a stake to claim in that argument. Fact is as a band these boys worked hard. Played a lot, wrote a lot, performed a lot. They weren't handed a golden chalice and decreed a superband supreme as some conspiracy minded folk suspect.
Yes, well, until the Joshua Tree album, especially because of the song " With or Without You" and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking for ", which are songs with a style more inclined with its contemporary mainstream media radio songs, U2's music was not really played on the radio besides" Pride in the Name of Love " and possibly" Sunday Boody Sunday " (please forgive me die hard U2 fans in I'm mistaken on the last song I mentioned. I'm also a die hard U2 fan). Those songs, of course, from the Unforgettable Fire. I think, at least with me, when I first started listeningI to U2 music, I was a little unsure about their music. I was particularly perplexed, being used to the mainstream media radio music, U2's music was " different.". It didn't fit in with the normal radio music. So it wasn't played. I didn't understand their music because it was different. But, just like coffee, beer, and other things, at least to me, as I somehow without knowing it, was drawn to it and as I continued listening to it on and off. I started listening to their music more and more. With time, like an acquired taste, I began falling in love with their music. Eventually it was my favorite music group. One day I woke up, and I didn't know exactly when, it was just a gradual process, but I realized I understood their music completely. It now brought on such joy and pleasure to me that no other music did. It was an acquired understanding and love for their music. And I think the majority of people who first listen to their music, in particular before the album Joshua Tree, don't give themselves a chance, the opportunity to get to understand and like their music. In my personal opinion, I think the Unforgettable Fire album is a true one of a kind masterpiece! And hands down, U2's best album.
I had read and heard that before as well. If it's not true at least seeing your comment makes me feel less crazy. I believe I read it in At The End Of The World. Hope I'm getting that title right, haven't read it in years but it's a fantastic book.
Moi également...Premier album écouté pour moi il y a ..trop longtemps..et je retrouvent écouté quel bonheur.. me souviens de tourelles paroles..je ne l ai pas oublié
This album has always been one of my favourites by U2. I saw them live on this tour around 85, one of the first concerts I ever went to, it’s stayed with me ever since, one of the best gigs I have ever seen. Great track, great album.
Have always felt this was my favourite of all their songs...something ethereal - mystical - that they cracked, along with Clannad, in the mid 80s, comes through in this song (and of course the entire Unforgettable Fire album). When I was 14 and I'd listen to this on my Sony Walkman headphones in my room, I'd literally bawl my eyes it it gave me such a emotional feel. This and this whole album...
My favorite period of U2 is the 80’s from Boy to the Joshua Tree album. No other era of U2 beats the 80’s as Bono said the 80’s were a time of ECSTATIC music and feeling!
I luv the song and the movie and they do go well together ........................................................................but the best part of your art. ............ ..................................is the candy.....thank you
i listenning that music when im a young girl...and i talk too me my seelf...this song its power,,,i love him,,,this is u2,,,the best band all time,,,love from portugal
the vídeo is the film """What Dreams May Come""" (Robin Williams, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Annabella Sciorra)......... U2... THE BEST........ marco from Argentina
If there ever was only one album by U2 to have on vinyl copy, this should be the one, and I do have it 😉🤘. Masterpiece, their best one, period. "Promenade" is so soothing BTW
love it, one of my favourite U2 songs, always reminds me of Bray and doin me leavin cert there and funnily enough, despite the lack of piss grey rain in the video, it hits the nail on the head HH
Recorded in 1984 and released in 1985. Beautiful song and one of my favorite from "The Unforgettable Fire" album. In case some want to know were Coldplay got their sound, here you go.
Sorry, but The Unforgettable Fire, with Promenade, was released on October 1, 1984, not on 1985. I don´t believe that any music from Codlplay, comes from The Unforgettable Fire, that is just the opposite. U2s The Unforgettable Fire is an energetic, melancholic, sad, encouraging, dreamed, exciting and passionate album, Coldplay is more simple, just boring.
@@felipeepilefelipe then go and check out them first 4/5 studio albums. You'll completely change your mind after hearing them, especially after taking a look at "Parachutes" (2000), and "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" (2002). 🙂🙂 (You're welcome)
Me hacen bien y me hacen daño.
Bono wrote this song when he was living in the Martello Tower in Bray, from about '84-91 I grew up in that town and I can identify with what he sings about " seaside town, football, radio radio radio" today bray is more famous for olympic champion Katie Taylor and up and coming next great Irish band Big September
I love the clips of "What Dreams May Come" that you used. Thank you for uploading this album. U2 is my favorite band. They've saved my life, in fact. I have a son named after them - Joshua. :)
I believe Bono wrote it about his honeymoon. I've read/heard that anyway but I was thinking the same as you. I'm playing a few songs with my friend for a wedding and I was thinking this song would be great for it.
well done mate. the pictures speak for themselves. the song is like an impressionist masterpiece. the melody is beautifully blurred and that makes the song exceptional not just emotionally but also intellectually. i mean the concept itself. can anyone suggest me similar music please? one of my favourite tracks from not just u2.
+frere jacques Earth, sky, scenery. Is she coming back again? Men of straw, snooker hall. Words that build or destroy Dirt dry, bone, sand and stone. Barbed wire fence cut me down. ...and finally, Bono has given his all while adressing the ancient turtles in the circles of power, to GET THINGS DONE and SAVE LIVES with ONE, DROP THE DEBT and JUBILEE 2000; just like Bastien trying to appeal to Morla. Bono has stated that he strives for a change of heart in the powerful, by appealing to sentiments they have FORGOTTEN but that precisely took them there in the first place. He made sen. Jesse Helms cry in 2000 - a 180° turn that convinced the old man to help Africa vs AIDS.
@Pedro4k Especially in "August Rush." If Bono wants to follow Elvis when he gets in his later years and do the Vegas thing, he could use the Robin Williams look from the character in August Rush. :)
I cannot BELIEVE that the Unforgettable Fire is regarded to be a "disappointment", and a "bad album"(in comparison to U2's other stuff). The Unforgettable Fire is one of U2's BEST albums.
dont know anyone who thinks that, except maybe hardcore War aficionados who hate anything less 'masculine'
bono actually says it, he does not rate it as it greatest work whereas many u2 fans do

being an u2 fan, this song was always one of my favourites.
really underrated.
an underrated, almost forgotten piece of art by early (and genuine) U2
I agree!!
The best era for this band
some of U2's best music is the music that never gets played on the radio...B-sides, etc. This is one of those songs.
Agreed. I love plenty of their radio hits but their collection of lesser known album songs and even b sides that were later released are astounding. One of the (very few) true U2 love songs, written by Bono for his wife Ali on their honeymoon.
I love it a lot.
I had read and heard that before as well. If it's not true at least seeing your comment makes me feel less crazy. I believe I read it in At The End Of The World. Hope I'm getting that title right, haven't read it in years but it's a fantastic book.
"Its already over?" That is what i ask everytime I hear this jewel. I love this album with all my heart.
Same, same!

Definitely one of my favorite songs on the Unforgettable Fire album. I don’t recall them ever playing this song live.

damn.....glad i am not the only one..:)..i can`t shut the water off
liam cruz that's why this album is the best :)
Agreed. Like this one the best.
liam cruz very much in the same way as simple minds hunter and the hunted....both haunting and mystical tracks that go beyond just music.
me too I was 15 and same same
This movie tugs hearts strings and is an amazing song too
I love this Song with all my heart ❤️
Per Songfacts: Bono wrote the lyrics about his house in Bray, a small town South of Dublin, where he lived with his wife, Ali.
promenade is breathtaking and beautiful.
That ethereal feeling of u2 is called Brian Eno. The man is awesome plus the u2 awesomeness.
cbfenix Yes and no. Just listen to Endless deep, Drowning man, Surrender ...
Don’t forget Daniel Lanois. He worked on both The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree with Eno. He was crucial to that sound
My favorite period of U2 is the 80’s from Boy to the Joshua Tree album. No other era of U2 beats the 80’s as Bono said the 80’s were a time of ECSTATIC music and feeling!
Yeah, and then they insisted on doing the electro-pop stuff. They haven't been the same since.
I grew up in a seaside town, in the 80's. We danced.
When U2 had the nerve to make something truly different.
thanks to Eno and Lanois.
They still do…check “Love is All We Have Left” off Songs of Experience
such an underrated gem!!!!!!!
Bad is the best U2 song....by far

This song lift me to a Dream" to a place where I belong.
I've always loved the beauty and peace of this song, and you've interpreted the music quite well with your selection and placement of the film images.
I love the clips of "What Dreams May Come" that you used. Thank you for uploading this album. U2 is my favorite band. They've saved my life, in fact. I have a son named after them - Joshua. :)

Would make a beautiful unconventional wedding song.
I believe Bono wrote it about his honeymoon. I've read/heard that anyway but I was thinking the same as you. I'm playing a few songs with my friend for a wedding and I was thinking this song would be great for it.
For those who've never heard this song before, you can fully hear where the band Coldplay got their sound. This song was released by U2 in 1985.
, 1984 , October, I bought it the day it came out, and Coldplay is band comprised of u2 fans, they have said it in public.
The vision of the afterlife and to excellent.
Great work. I don't remember ever seeing an official video for this song but this works quite nicely! :) Thank you for sharing.
