Great presentation. Very informative. The F1 is remarkable in every respect. Some bushcraft knives are very capable however a wooden handle and leather sheath does require care and attention. The F1 with the zytel sheath is perfect for all occasions. Thanks for taking the time to share. All the best Pete (uk). 👍
Hi Pete, that zytel sheath is exactly that, low maintenance. I'm lucky I managed to get one of the last F1DZ sold in Europe and from a Harley store in Germany 😎
The F1 is my favorite. I have tried others of similar size. They reside in an ammo can. The S1 is another favorite. New subscriber. Excellent presentation. From Arizona, the snowy part.
Thank you for reaching out to Fallkniven in order to share this fascinating history of this knife. I have the f1x and am constantly amazed by the design and the functionality of this knife. I also should have R2 Scout being delivered sometime today. I am looking forward to making the R2 my Everyday Carry fixed blade. Subscribed
As soon as they drop these in Elmax my search for the ultimate belt knife will be over. I have a full tang blank in VG10 and a regular one in COS currently but I really want a harder steel.
I'd say someday they will. I think Elmax now plays a part in some of their knifes. I have other knives in Elmax. It's a great steel. I'm loving this lam cos though 😃 it's so nice isn't it
If anyone watching this great video is looking for the perfect EDC "do anything" workhorse knife, The Fallkniven F1 is the that knife!! I personally EDC an F1x or S1 Pro depending on what I'm planning for the day and where I'll be. I've put both through extreme abuse and honestly I wouldn't be here to type this if I didn't have my F1 during a bad situation a few years back.. Stop thinking about it JUST GET IT!!!
Thanks, I received mine today, a lot better then in the pictures, absolutely wonderful. Mine is in vgwolf, I hope they are going in the right direction with this steel.
@@The_gear_review_channel I like it so far, I've been using it daily for food prep, on wood for my stove and for carving spoons, for skin and bone wild boar and pheasants, filleting fish... The cut is impressive, it is quite easy to sharpen untill is shaving sharp (I use sandpaper), the 90 degrees spine works well. I had very small chips after boning wild boar, since I hit the bones many times I think it is acceptable. The handle could be a little bit bigger for my medium size hands but it is ok, no complains, the termorun is comfortable. Blade shape and dimensions make the knife very controllable and it allows precise cuts. The new sheath is same material of the old one, but is better designed with a good retention.
I own an a1,wm1,b.r.squad leader,kabar,morakbiv,etc... etc.BUT the only one that is always in my belt when i hit the mountains is the F1.I don't know why.It took a lot of bad things these years and never said no ..and its the most beautiful of all!!!!
I fell under the spell of Mors Kochanski and "the Grey Bearded Green Beret," and was going to buy the Mora Garberg because it's a bushcraft/survival knife available in high carbon steel, but I no longer think I will; I think I might go with the Fallkniven F1 or Benchmade Puukko. I mean, I see the point in having a high carbon steel knife in a survival situation--you can strike it against a hard rock and get some sparks to start a fire; you don't need a ferro rod (although the ferro rod is better). But then I thought: how likely is it that I will ever be in that specific survival situation? How likely is it that I will be in a situation where I have my high carbon knife, but not have a ferro rod, waterproof matches, or a Bic lighter? For that matter, how likely is it that I will have my high carbon knife, but not have a down sleeping bag (having which makes a fire a lot less important)? Now, if high carbon steel were the best steel on the market, there would be no reason not to get it. But it's 2021 and there are many steels out there that are better--or at least higher end companies like Benchmade seem to think there are, because as far as I know none of these companies use high carbon steel. (Also WTF does "high carbon steel" even mean? I don't even think that's a specific type of steel.) Another thing is that high carbon steel rusts like crazy. I have Mora Companion with HC steel, and it rusts if it so much as looks at water. I live in the Seattle area: things are wet most of the time.
Those are really valid and interesting points you just made and ones I love to discuss. I do own high carbon blades and they need to be really well looked after even when in storage and not being used that much. This F1 just doesn't need that extra care. Don't need to worry about rust with it, I never have. With the F1, Peter and the design team at Fallkniven have had decades to perfect it and their other range of knives with new technology as they arise. That is why I love and respect this F1 so much. The survival situation for me and thinking about survival is what I enjoy doing and learning more about. Everytime I am out, I always bring a few methods of contacting emergency services anyways but also bring items that will aid me for cuts and breaks and overnight situations should they arise. Now, this is not out of paranoia but purely because I want to be prepared for anything silly that may happen. The extra few pounds of weight is worth the peace of mind If you get a model of the F1 it will be great to hear your feedback.
All the pro survivalists would opt got Carbon steel for good reason, but that’s them, we are not in the same level and not the same environment. Just so you know, Mora Garberg has stainless steel version. That I would go for.
I love my1. I always come back to it despite having other knives. I think my knives are sharp, then I compare to my F1 and realize it’s steel and grind make it a level above.
Awesome looking tool bud! Handle material is a big or for me too. Right now, the most comfortable knife handle I have just now is actually the Gerber Strongarm. You going to do a review of your Casstrom? Cheers bud
Thanks buddy. Yeah, this handle is smaller than the Casstrom Lars Falt. Noticeable smaller handle. Feels amazing to hold even when wet and when the weather is cold outside, your hand won't get cold when you hold this material. I'll do a review of the Casstrom next year when I've used it over winter. Wanna be able to give a full review.
😁 Thank you kindly. This is in the Czech Republic. I moved here a few years back. Man, Phoenix Park would be a cool place to do a review though and maybe an overnight. Then again the army barracks and Garda HQ might have something to say to me 😂
I see, have one in 3G and having some issue with edge mainly used for carving wood and some chips is going on my blade, micro one , maybe because hardness is 61 maybe it’s to brittle idk Anyway nice video mate 👍
Best knife in the world? Lmao. Maybe 30 yrs ago sure. But there are also rumors that they copied cold steel as well. So who knows. However I'd argue it's the best knife in the world for its size.
It is a good knife. However, is it the best? Come on... it is there with the best, but knives are very subjective objects. Take Bark River Bravo 1, which is of roughly same dimensions and intended use and is made by a guy who is hunter and was close to Bob Loveless. So yeah, I have many Fallkniven knives (A1 Pro, HK 9, F2, PHK...), but I didn't acquire F1. I opted for Bravo 1 in CPM Cru Wear and Bravo 1LT in Elmax. I knida like them better. I especially like the fact that Bark River makes their knives, after all, Fallkniven is a private label.
Definitely hands down one of the best for it's size. Made in Japan 🗾 in arguably one of the world's best forge, its handle design and overall shape. Feels amazing in the hand. I can't fault it. Cannot find one fault.

Just bought a f1x in Elmax. Great knife with a solid pedigree. Thank you for the informative video.
Hope that knife brings you endless great memories.

Thanks a mil. That's much appreciated. The R2 looks class. Let me know what you think of it.
Thanks for the review Geoff. I think that Petr's design philosophy will bear fruit for many generations to come.
I think so. I still love using this knife.
It would be awesome if he could give you similar backgrounds on the S1 and A1 knives
It sure would. Maybe in time
best knife I've ever owned nice background history great job!
Thanks a mil Fred 🙌
I appreciate a company that refuses to "innovate" a product just for the sake of it.
Agreed
Amazing knife with a great story. Thanks for sharing the narrative. I need to try an F1!

I have knives from bark river, white river, TRC, and spyderco but my fav is the F1DZ. KING
It’s an amazing knife

Such a good handling knife
very informative, thank you. I am looking for a full tang knife with a comfortable/durable handle. thank you as I will explore this further.
Glad to bring the information to you 👊🏼💥
Nice history now I want to get one of these knives. I know several people who would enjoy them. Thanks!
Thanks Sandra. This F1DZ is out of production now but they have the F1 pro which is the closest knife to this. Get it in LamCos steel. 🙌

If I ever destroy my Casströms I will buy one !
Great video 👍
I reckon you and me should buy the Fallkniven next year. The latest model.
Definitely top drawer. What midlayer is that you have on in the video?
Heya Craig. It’s from Svala of Finland. Nice and warm

Glad I stayed as well. But I was hoping to find me a desert tan. By chance is this one for sale.
Cheers.
I don’t think I’ll ever sell it
Any thoughts about f1 in 3G steel?
Only used it in lamcos

@@Smartax1307 you may want to keep that one away from carving wood and get a dedicated carving knife
Great video
Damn your fast :)
Thanks a mil Leshy 🙌
great video man
Thanks a mil. Enjoyed the making of this one. 👍🏼
Favorite knife!
Same here. It packs such a punch for its size and with all the small updates on the model after decades in production, for me it's perfect.
Does the handle hydrolyze?
Ask the maker 😎 they should know more

It's a cool knife alright. Not sure if I would say if any knife is ever the best. Too many on the market that are amazing of all sizes.
@@The_gear_review_channel that I can agree with 100 percent. Keep well man.

It’s a cool knife
LOL A Swedish company made an American style knife and then bashes the American knife industry.
*Beautiful knife; I also have it in 3G 🙂*
Nice 👌
