    When setting up an eSim from an existing phone with a nano SIM, it is critical that you set up your wifi on your new phone first and that both phones have access to the same network.

    Carriers: time to hire a ton of customer service reps because the phone calls to assist with eSim setup will be 10X what they are now. And then more calls when people want to swap back to their Android and then back to their iPhone and on and on. Literally nothing is easier than swapping a physical sim card from one phone to another.

      Esim set up is super easy though. It’s literally in the phone during setup, or in the cellular settings. Especially with the QR code of you need it.
      It’s not any different then getting a physical sim getting activated.
      If anything it’s a more streamlined process.
      It’s similar to CDMA services, but the difference is your iPhone can store at least 8 Esim cards.
      I think the only issue some people will have are just common user errors but that’s going to happen regardless.
      Over the air activation is not new and honestly is as easy as this video shows

    What I hate about eSIM is that if my phone is damaged, instead of me taking my sim card out and putting it in another phone. I now have to run to the carrier store to buy a new phone, or somehow figure out how to get a eSIM or sim card for a spare phone I have. To me its a way for the carriers to control you. Because if you do happen to damage your phone. You are forced to buy a new phone, where before you can take your sim card and put it any unlocked phone you chose.

    • @rodhoutx
      @rodhoutx ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You wouldn't have to buy a new phone. You would just go to the carrier and ask for a SIM card and tell them to link it back to your account. There are always growing pains. Many other phones have eSIMs to. In many cases you just log into your account and there are screens to change the ICCID or eSIM, and many MVNO carriers have apps that let you do that or even sign up for service instantly. People forget that CDMA phones (Verizon) had worked like this before LTE -- they did not have SIM cards. You'd have to go to a store or sign into your account to change the IMEI number.

    Easy to activate initially but I switch phones all the time. With Verizon, I have to call them to switch an eSim number to a different phone. That will be a huge pain for others that switch phones regularly. Wait times to get a Verizon rep are 30 minutes to an hour. I won't be purchasing a new iPhone until Verizon makes it easy to switch an eSim phone on their website without needing to call a rep.

    • @smittycal
      @smittycal ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sure this will change as Esim is more wide spread. Especially as more phones will adopt Esim in the future. Esim to non Esim phones will be the biggest hurdles. But for the most part that’s not an issue with newer iPhones iPhones from the X and newer.

    • @rodhoutx

      People forget that before LTE existed that Verizon did not have SIM cards anyway. You'd have to call or log into your account if you wanted to use a different phone on Verizon (and it had to be a Verizon phone). I think going from an eSIM phone to another eSIM phone will be easy and will be able to be done online. You can already start new service by using the apps for that carrier as you mentioned. Hopefully that ease transfers over to moving between phones.

      I am pretty sure that once you do this process of transitioning from physical SIM to eSIM, the physical SIM card is now permanently deactivated. It cannot be used in any device. Not in an iPhone, not in an Android. The physical SIM is now a useless piece of plastic. If you decide you want to go back to physical SIM, you will have to contact your carrier, and they will have to send you a new physical SIM, which you could put into any device. The eSIM profile you had activated on the iPhone would get deactivated. Your account cannot be tied to an eSIM and a physical SIM at the same time. It's one or the other.

      I have an iphone 6s that is unable to update due to storage even if i reset everything but everything else works fine. How will i transfer now? I also would like to keep using that iphone 6s from time to time. I had a note 10 plus and i would constantly switch the sim to the 6s whenever i had to go to risky places. I no longer have the note 10 plus.

      From what I've seen there are quite a few eSIM compatible providers that provide regional or global service when traveling with rates that aren't too bad. They've been doing this for quite a few years and more coming. eSIMs have been around for a few years in Android phones and iPhones and used a lot specifically for travel purposes (get your eSIM set up before traveling, and it provides data for your primary SIM for WiFi calling, texting, etc.) HOPEFULLY it will be just as easy for them to give our a QR code instead of SIM card as the remaining carriers come onboard.

      @rodhoutx ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Elizabethhogan56 Unfortunately that will probably be more difficult. I have an iPhone 8 and will be upgrading to iPhone 14. I still like the idea of an eSIM because I switch prepaid carriers and wouldn't have to wait for a SIM (and sometimes have to pay for one). Might just go ahead and trade in my iPhone 8 then and if i want a second phone get an iPhone XR which are cheap now. Decisions decisions!

    Seems very simple and quick, especially as the vast majority of us will do it once and not worry about it for a few years. Not sure what all the fuss is about on the social networks. I suppose it is the anti-Apple crowd doing their usual?

      It's mostly some US people wondering what they're gonna do when they travel since eSIM isn't widespread across the world yet, not to mention some people in other countries won't be able to buy the American 14 series for cheaper than what they'll find in their country

    • @davidgates5699

      @@Metamine0 Actually the US is behind more when it comes to most countries with cellular. eSIM has been available in a lot of countries over 140 for a while.

      The concerns are mainly 2 things. 1) people traveling to countries where eSIM is not supported. Previously they could just buy a physical SIM and put it in the phone. No longer an option. 2) People with multiple devices (for example 1 iPhone and 1 Android) who like to move their physical SIM between devices. For example on Monday I'm using my iPhone, on Tuesday maybe I'll use my android. Like changing clothes. I fall into category 2. It's definitely a very small category of people, but also includes people like tech reviewers who go through many phones weekly and monthly. It seems like Apple has done some good work to be able to move an eSIM from one iPhone to another, but moving eSIM from iPhone to Android or vice versa is not as nice. The process for doing this will vary by carrier. Some carriers may let you do it via an app, some via a website, some you may have to call them. A worry I have is that carriers may decide to limit how often you can do this, or start charging fees - and then it will feel like we are back in the bad old days of CDMA phones. We will see if anything like this happens. I don't like this move to eSIM, it affects my ease of using multiple devices, but it is the future and even if I don't like it, I will have to get used to it.

      @@Metamine0 I found a website offering worldwide eSIM coverage. You open an account, and PAYG gets an eSIM for where you are going, all before you leave the US. Hopefully, other countries will see what is coming and get eSIM coverage. If Apple pushes, others follow, which is suitable for faster uptake.

      @@shirokuro73 You are, of course, right, teething problems for the average consumer and headaches for a niche minority. But this is how tech moves on, and we must adapt, as you say. Hopefully, Apple kickstarting this will move it faster; and solutions are found, as the inevitable unforeseen consequences pop up.

    It's no any but... it's painful and stupid I should have more control over my phone for example travel a lot and for example in Moldova esim it's only for people how made a contract with carier for not less then one year. I travel in Egypt Europe... and I used to switch that Sim and save some money time. But now I need to pay more for less. I used to spend 100 dollars for 4 months in Moldova with no limit used to swap Sim card online the time in Egypt you get a sim for 10 dollars and forget about that for one week or more. I can't use iphone 14 in Moldova because they don't have esim for that place I used to buy sim all the time so but now my phone will not work there 😅 way do I needed this innovation then? I don't like that sistem and need to pay more 😒 for what? This may work only for reach people or who never get out from there country.
