- My passenger CV axle was clicking while turning and both the inner and outer boots were blown. There was no more grease left in the CV. It was time for a replacement so in this video we swapped out the old CV for a new one. Thanks for watching. I hope everyone is doing well out there.
The torque specs for the ball joint bolts are 37 ft lbs for ‘01 / ‘02 4Runners according to the service manual.

Thanks for the video. Just found out my cv boots blew out. Will be referencing this video.
I'm glad it was helpful for you. My driver side is in need of replacement again! The good news is I'm getting faster and faster at swapping them.
where does one add the gear oil after CV install?
Excellant video..Does this apply to a 1992 Toyota SR4 / 4 wheel drive?
I gut answer is yes, it's very close with a few steps that are specific to your vehicle. I bet there is a good write up out there on the Toyota forums. I've done CV axles on this 4Runner, my Tundra, and a 100 series Land Cruiser. The process for all three was about the same with a few minor changes.
Protip, dont forget to add gear lube after installing your cv-axle🤪.
Haha, thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind for the future.
Awesome video bro but are those oem cv axles? Send link please 💯🤙🤙
Thanks, these aren't OEM. I ordered them from an eBay seller a long time ago. Not sure what the link is anymore. So far no complaints, but one of my boots is starting to tear.
@@goatsinapond You gotta do the boot stretch mod to keep them from rubbing.
@@hiredgoon4269 I've seen that. I will try it on the next swap.
Did you have to top off on your gear oil after this?
I did not. I didn't lose much. It's probably due for a change soon anyways though. Doesn't hurt to stay ahead of it.
Where did you get the CV Axles from?
I ordered this pair from eBay. I think it was around $120 for the pair. One of them failed within a few months though. So you might source something OEM and save yourself the headache of pre-mature failure.
Bro no wonder it ripped you need a diff drop lmao. Look at the angle of them.
Lmao, I do have a diff drop! That CV was like that when I bought it. Who knows what the previous owner did. It's gucci now.
@@goatsinapond boots still holding up? you think of doing the boot stretch mod?
@@wallyace1357 The boot on the passenger recently tore. I ended up replacing the entire CV. I had issues with those CVs (purchased from eBay). I won't buy them from there again. The boot stretch mod is cool. I haven't tried it myself. Have you done it?
@@goatsinapond I asked the shop to do it the last time I had to have them replaced in the winter, didn't want to wrench in the snow. I don't think they actually did it but I am planning to re-boot them in the spring, hopefully the duct tape can keep debris out of them until then 😬
@@wallyace1357 A little duct tape never hurt anybody.
