chapter 1114 finally revealed the overall story of One Piece. It's the greek myth of prometheus. Prometheus stole fire from the heavens and gave it to man, which angered the gods so they punished him. Joyboy is prometheus and the fire from heaven that he gave to man was the power of the sun as an infinite energy source. This angered the gods (the gorosei aren't celestial dragons, they are gods), so they deceived his kings, destroyed his kingdom and killed him to punish him. They established their own rule so that they could keep mankind down until they could acquire the technology to power the uranus and finish the destruction of the world. That happened when vegapunk created the motherflame, which is just nuclear fusion (A&Mu in japanese is pronounced atomu, the japanese pronunciation of atom, and nuclear fusion is splitting atoms). In nuclear fusion, the fuel rods are kept submerged in water to keep them cool so that the fusion doesn't burn out of control and cause a meltdown, as happened in chernobyl and fukushima. The boiling water from the reactor is then used to power a turbine and create energy. When Saturn was smashing snails on the control panel of the motherflame, he destroyed the cooling system of the motherflame, which is why the flames started to grow larger afterwards. The motherflame is starting to go out of control and will meltdown if not fixed soon. Luffy is joyboy and in gear five the power of the sun radiates through him, which is how the ancient robot was charged. Vegapunk is called Icarus because the ancient power source was given to man by the sun god and vegapunk intruded into the realm of the gods when he pridefully thought that he could create and control the power of a god himself. Instead of benefitting society he caused his own downfall and brought about the means to destroy humanity.
