Safety harnesses like these are so simple yet some many folks here in the US don't use them. I tie swiss seats and a chest harness just like this for tree stand safety while hunting. Great video.

Been looking for an easy harness construction on TH-cam over the last few days. All are aimed at established climbers. I'm not one of those. I'm moving into a unit on the 13th floor for a short time. I've only ever lived on the ground, so am super vigilant about something going wrong so high in the air. On the ground, in an emergency, any window is an escape plan. In the air, you have the fire escape or nothing. I want an alternative to that single mode escape plan. I'm not a climber but want a contingency exit plan incase the fire escape is not accessible in an emergency. IE: Out over the balcony and lower myself down the outside of the building. Not being a climber I want a harness that is going to hold me no matter which way I'm pointing and this chest and waist harness combination with the single carbiner seems the goods. Great video mate, the chest harness is a great to know, I was aware of the second way of doing a waist harness but not of the first. Personally I'd defs use the chest harness but for a waist harness I'm planning on just taking my very light weight climbing harness with me into the bush for emergency situations, that's not to say that the waist harness you show wouldn't work perfectly, it's just that I have that sitting at home so why not. One thing to possibly mention in future videos about this sort of stuff is the whole "Steel on steel, Ally on ally" rule for biners and other hardware as a few people don't know of it. Great job mate, keep it up!

Is that knot the tape knot (water knot) . Is that NOT a square knot correct? Instead of going around and back like a square knot your doing a tape knot by going around the other way your just circling back correct?
I know this is a few years old, but I hope you’re still following for comments. Would it be safe to clip a carabiner into the waist and chest harnesses each independently, and then connect them both to your line for redundancy?
yeah can do, have a play around with the suystems and see what works. Good way to extract an unconscious victim or to lower someone who is real nervous and not confident. Just make sure your not side loading the carabiners and that the chest harness wont slip over the shoulders. Cheers
I have a bad back and I was wondering about using a chest harness to reduce stress on my back (I have a herniated disk). I think I"m going to try what this guy did and see if it helps. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
hey mate, I'm pretty new to hunting , so this might be a bit of a stupid question. If I go on ,say a five day hunting trip and a shoot a deer on the first day what do I do with it to keep it fresh until i hike out?
Cure it. Smoke, sun dry, salting... Depending on how cold the earth is, you can bury it in an air tight bag with no air in it. Anything below 50° and you should be fine. When its around 40° or below i hang my deer a few days. This ages the deer. The colder it is the longer the aging takes. The hotter, the quicker it spoils.
I' m a bit confused - at 2.06 you started to show how to tie a water knot to make a big loop. But finally you made a waist harness from the open webbing with two small loops at it's ends... ???
The black one? Same style big loop made of single webbing, two small eyes at the ends and a biner? Sorry, there is no big loop in your harness with a water knot at the end of the video... THAT made a confusion... But the idea is pretty good. :-)
Hi there.my weight is 62 kilo.im trying to make a safety harness coz we are painting the roof of the farm here in australia.just a safety pre caution. I bought a carabiner from kmart that says max load is 70kilo.is it safe to use?
A bit late but no that's NOT safe!! When you fall there's going to be a much higher load on the carabiner than 70kg. It can be hundreds of kg's or much more than that. You need to use a carabiner and rope suited for climbing / safety, those have a much higher load rating. Those carabiners start at around 20kN rating, which is around 2000kg max. load. Only buy at a shop that sells specialized safety or climbing gear!

The water knot is what we used in Search and Rescue SAR for body recovery operations. Super strong for (tape) webbing

I use a similar rig for hunting from a tree. A rope or length of webbing is so much more versatile than a designated harness.

Can a safer knot on the end be used, rather than the simple overhand knot?

Gut it immediately; deer carcase overheats upon death so the meat will spoil, eviscerating immediately prevents this.

Did you watch the entire video? To make the chest harness you need a big loop.
