Same here ! In the Coast Guard we often had "rope" instructors who knew how to tie every knot known to God and man, but they weren't the best at teaching. Corporal Kelly is an excellent instructor

*PREPPER's PRO TIP: Add one stable loop in between you & the end of the lanyard because if you do fall it'll make it easier to climb back up to have an intermediary "handle".*

Great video and explanation, finally a straight to the point video, finally a fall arrest system that I appreciate, more than normal devices; can prevent falling, no flipping over and hitting head. I go trekking, and sometimes there are anchor points, for ropes in the mountains, very useful, without carrying too much material, a 5M rope and carabiner is enough, I already carry several cameras. I will adopt this system from now on, thanks for your advice.

Not really, doesn't matter. Your falling 2 feet at most. We never had dynamic ropes in the military for these uses

That is the simplest I've ever seen a bowline tied. When I do a bowline with the rabbit round the tree meathod it sometimes goes around the tree the wring way, so I have to fix it. I am totally putting this meathod in to the mental tool box. Thanks for the demo.

That is a nice rope, where do you get your equipment,that rope is very expressive, mine is an edelweiss, oh I see you're using carabiners locking gate no your harness,very nice, your always doing a great job with your videos, you don't cut corners, only the best equipment after you have tested it over a long period of time !!!

It's something you can tie once and step out of it,hang on the wall.Me,I'll use this to clean gutters safely.

Great points about context for application. By the way, there is a neat one handed method of tying a bowline around your chest. You are probably familiar with it. It's not really relevant for your demo here, it's just a really neat trick. Actually, it'd make a nice little demo video, I might do that.
Ha ha, of course he has, I should have checked! There's not much that hasn't already been done on TH-cam, I'll have to do a video on how to tie a bowline with no hands...

I’m 52 yr old woman and need to shovel snow off my roof, I’m scared to death of heights and falling, I wanted something to keep me from sliding off if I slip, I will keep my secured rope short enough so I won’t go over the edge and dangle.....at least I’ll feel a little safer :))

I have used a shoddy rope fall restraint harness when traditional deer hunting. I actually leaned out from the tree crotch and used the restraint to hold me. Not smart maybe but that deer never felt a thing.😉
Hi. New subscriber. Can you combine this with Swiss seat ? I'm thinking lowering unconcious people down a building so they are supported even when not holding the rope themselves. Please do a video on that if possible.
Can you combine this with the swiss seat for an improvised "full body harness"?
It's obvious by the technique your using that you could probably tie everyone of those knots in complete darkness.

Thinking this could work as fall protection in a tree stand only turned around to your back after tying. I use a 3/8" eye bolt screwed into the tree to attach my carabiner to. Thanks for the demo.

From the description, it sounds like this is a good means of attaching yourself to a line that crosses perpendicular one's unchecked motion, eg. to a bridge over a body of moving water. Do you think it could also be adapted with an additional knot at the caribiner end - eg. a prusik knot of some kind - to aid as a safety if one falls in line with the main anchor line, like when you're rappelling? I hope the question makes sense.

How could you set this up to attach to keep it “removal “ to reuse in lean to deer stand.
As the norm, an excellent and educational presentation. Only one question: does it mean there is an additional line that is run as your safety line that is not part of your rope bridge to hook your rope harness to?
you can run an extra rope or you can attach it directly to the bridge. Thanks for watching

appreciate the simplicity of this method but I am concerned about the direct pressure on rib in case of fall. If possible, swiss seat maybe a safer protection?

Great video! One question: What is the purpose of doubling up the rope? Comfort? Because the carabiner loop of the rope is still just single, so you will not be getting any added tensile strength.

It was to reduce excess line flopping around primarily, also a small amount of "comfort"
What diameter ropes are you using for the upper harness, Swiss seat and rope bridge?
I am sorry, but is it really a good idea to use a rope of that small diameter for a chest harness only? I am really not a pro but of what i heard chest harness can leave you dangling, making it really hard to breath and use your arms to climb up again. Would love a follow-up video of you actually testing it with a small fall and maybe introducing other types of harnesses you can tie that are much safer and actually used in rescue situations. Thanks!

Tomasz Proczkowski , re watch his video and really listen to what he says.....as in, the use and purpose of this type of safety ....it does not tighten up on you when you fall, your weight on the rope would be bore under your arms not around your chest and it is intended for a short fall so you can grab back onto what you just fell off of !
I’m a middle age woman watching this and his instruction and intent of it’s use were crystal clear to me. He has many videos explaining different safety harnesses and their intended use.....they are not all the same !!!🙄
You say yourself you’re no pro, he is a highly trained military man, I’m thinking he has used these skills to stay alive, he certainly has my trust !!!

So how much does it hurt when you fall with the lanyard? My tree stand harness failed and Saturday is opening day of archery so I will be using a Swiss seat/lanyard for the first weekend till I can afford a new harness. Thanks for the informative vids. Semper Fi do or die.

Double is a good idea, back then a 12mm (1/2") lanyard broke like glass, on a 2 length fall, so we got thicker lanyards in a hurry.
