      @@LawrencevanLingen I've made a rope following your instructions. Thank you very much again, Lawrence. I am really enjoying it. It's made of a 18 mm rope and came out to weigh 420 g. I've been using it for a while now. I would really like to try a heavier rope - perhaps around twice the weight of this one (800 g - 1 kg). Do you have any recommendations/directions for making such rope? I bought the rope for my current one directly from the manufacturer, but they only have one thicker rope, which doesn't weight much more, so I don't know what kind of rope I should be looking for. Or do heavy ropes have some actual weight inside of them? 🤔

    I made it! Thanks for the explanations!
    Ordered a 16 mm Polypropylene rope 16 times braided with insert (hope this translation makes sense in English).m, got it from a nautic rope shop.
    I’m 1,9 m and ordered 5m rope - with the 2 nodes from this video it’s still 30-40cm too long for me - have added 1 more node each side right behind the handles - now its perfect.
    Such rope weights about 550g (110g/m) - should be ok for a beginner flow rope.
    Have added some office desk cable wrapping to protect it in the middle.

      Add backward walking and once that feels good add Tyre walking forward for resistance. It’s really helpful to think that tension causes a twist and that causes assymetries, so if you unwind, open up, things fall into place or smooth out.
      The flow rope can really help make you more symmetrical too

    I'm from India and I want to try rope flow. I got blank stares when I asked for "marine rope" in stores here. As rock climbing is popular here, I could find those ropes, when I asked for "double braided" rope. But, then I got asked whether I'm looking for static rope or dynamic rope. Pls suggest which one should I go for? Also, whether 10 mm rope (weight 60g per meter) is good one to start with rope flow? I would rather start with a good rope than waste my time with an okay one, leading to poor opinion of rope flow. So, pls give me bad news, if that's what I need to hear from you :)

    • @LawrencevanLingen
      @LawrencevanLingen  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can swing absolutely any rope and get benefit from it.
      Rock climbing ropes will be fine but a bit stiff, not flexible.
      A narrow rope swings faster , a denser rope, many fibers (like a climbing rope) is heavier and swings faster.
      A double braid, nylon, marine rope is soft, flexible and reasonably heavy. We use 16mm marine ropes because the increased diameter slows the rope down a bit which helps people swing in a relaxed fashion which helps with learning and also to create space in joints and fascia.
      10mm is what I started on and should be fine, and a rope climbing rope is also fine.
      Many people want to swing fast and so using a dense, thinner rope is ideal for them.
      Later for my athletes we use a 1 inch thick rope for weight and strength.

    • @rahulsnh

      @@LawrencevanLingen thanks a ton for quick response. It exactly what I sought to know.
      I'll start with what I got in the store - climbing rope. I want to swing slow, meditatively :) But, I think I'll start fast as the only swings that I've done are with skipping ropes. So, I'm going to need a bit on unlearning to get over my habit.
      I'm keen because my shoulder joint can use more space. So, when I travel to a coastal city, I'll find a marine rope. Thanks once again :)

      @LawrencevanLingen  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It should be fine. We swing the rope slowly in order to feel the big muscles working and to find fascia connections and to learn motor patterns. If you swing it fast for fitness it might be a bit much to start with.
