    Minecraft Map Art is gaining some attention lately and I wanted to make my own map art. I quickly found out that I had no idea where to even begin with this task and had to teach myself many things. So I've put together a world download for anyone seeking out how to get specific colors in their map art. I have gone through every item in the game and laid out each item to be displayed on maps so you, the player, can quickly identify what blocks make what colors and how to shade them.

    Minecraft is a sandbox construction game created by Mojang AB Minecraft founder Markus Persson, and inspired by the Infiniminer, Dwarf Fortress and Dungeon Keeper games. Gameplay involves players interacting with the game world by building and breaking various types of blocks in a three-dimensional environment. In this environment, players can build creative structures, creations, and artwork on multiplayer servers and singleplayer worlds across multiple game modes.

    very well explained video (particularly with talking about light & shadow on slopes!), and thankyou for taking the time to determine which blocks are excluded & which blocks produce the same colour.
    Since I had trouble with downloading the worldfile (the website hosting the link was very unco-operative) I have gone through the video section where you showcase all available colours for 1.15.2 and noted what those colours correspond to.
    (this list would be helpful for someone who wants to do lots of map art & needs to figure out what things they should pre-emptively stock up on, this list will not be so helpful for someone who needs a specific colour but can't figure out what block corresponds to that colour - your world download is ideal for that)
    >All overworld wood plank types
    >All concrete/concrete-powder/wool/carpet types (only one of these 3 options is necessary, or a combination of the three)
    >Diorite/quartz
    >Cobble/cobblestone/gravel
    >Clay/brewing stands
    >Iron blocks/grindstones
    >All terracotta types
    >Slime blocks
    >Redstone blocks/TNT
    >Emerald blocks
    >Diamond blocks/Prismarine bricks
    >Gold blocks
    >Lapis Lazuli Blocks
    >Netherrack
    >Ice/packed ice (I couldn't tell which was used)
    >Red sand/orange terracotta (again, couldn't tell)
    >(White) Mushroom stems/Cobwebs
    >All flowers/leaves/saplings
    so if like me you have plans for multiple pieces of map art and you want to pre-emptively farm/collect resources, here's a list of what you may need

      thanks for the pin! Having just now watched Yensid Gaming's Mapmaking top tips video (th-cam.com/video/hq7WkPBc8NA/w-d-xo.html ), they pointed out that cleanup is very important to consider if you're making maps in survival, so if you have a Mesa nearby (I don't, hence I didn't include glazed terracotta on my list) then that provides a good alternative to concrete/wool:
      thus I amend that bullet point to
      >carpets (easy to wash away) or glazed terracotta (insta-minable with haste 1 beacons & good pickaxes) or concrete powder (insta-minable with good shovels)
      and then as less good alternatives if you need to clear up/edit the map afterwards, wool or concrete
      (I have no affiliation with Yensid Gaming - I'm just a mapmaker in training thanks to y'all's great videos :D )
      /EDIT/
      Since it turns out you can't edit pinned comments, I'd like to tweak my original comment here, having now tried some mapart:
      I meant to say:
      >Stone/cobblestone/gravel (not >cobble/Cobblestone/gravel)
      >Iron blocks/grindstones/lanterns (not just >Iron blocks/grinstones)
      >Slime blocks/grass blocks (not just >slime blocks)
      >Ice/packed ice (both have the same colour, so it's your choice whether you want to not worry about ice melting near torches, or want regular ice which is 9 times cheaper to farm)
      >Red sand (not >red sand/orange terracotta, as far as I can tell from the video)
      >Any flowers/leaves/saplings - all flowers (including wither roses & mushrooms!) show up as the same greenish colour
      also, lighting protip: torches on top/the side of blocks don't affect the map
      ! and redstone lamps with levers on any side also don't affect the map! Since carpets allow light through but do affect the map, you could also hide any form of lighting under carpets, but make sure you're aware of the height you're placing the lighting block on, as the carpet going on top could affect the slopes e.g if the lighting block is not level with the background
      (lanterns, sea lanterns, glowstone, beacons, shroomlights, jack o' lanterns & fire all do affect the map if they are the top block)

    *For Bedrock players* there’s a problem unlike Java, where with north and south angles you’ll get a checkerboard look to them on the map, not a solid color like Java. But the solution is to have the angle go up by a minimum of 2 blocks (instead of one block shown in the video) This will make a solid color

    • @devinshearer7523
      @devinshearer7523 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@michaelruiz3883 no it shouldn’t. the Java is a minimum of 1 block, if you do the bedrock way (which is minimum of 2 blocks) in Java it’ll be the same on the map. Also I doubt they’ll fix it, it’s been like this for years

It does a sort of checkered pattern with the original color and the dark/light color(depending on the way it slopes of course) I want to know if it was a settings thing, and update, or if it’s only for the switch

    Interesting... it seems like it just matters what the difference in elevation is to the north of the color you are looking at, or rather how it is placed differently from the block to the north, either higher or lower. So if the block to the north is at y=128, you get the middle color by putting it south of that block at the same level (y=128), you get a brighter color by putting it at any higher level (y=129 to the build limit), and a darker color by putting it lower (y=127 down to bedrock).

    Is there a way to get vibrant colours? I’m trying to recreate r/place 2023 and there’s a vibrant magenta like colour, but when I use colours that look vibrant on the ground don’t look vibrant on maps except green and blue thanks to emerald blocks and diamond blocks

    On bedrock Minecraft it keeps showing a check board pattern instead of becoming a different shade when I use slopes on it.

    • @WintersLorcana

      have you tried sloping in the other direction? Instead of north/south try east/west? I've never played bedrock, so this is just a guess

    very interesting, I know you can make maps like this, but I never did it. It takes so long only for a map. so I didn't know how the great mapbuilder make so many colors. a lot of work you did. you could build a logo with your face on afterlife. Would it be possible to poste content in your community tab on youtube only for subscribers. with that you could give the download only for that people. if not they should add it. would make no sence to sub and unsub every time for a download.

    • @WintersLorcana
      @WintersLorcana  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The community tab does work for "members only" but that's the paid subscription thing that I didn't like, otherwise I think it just goes out to everyone.

    I have seen people put cobwebs and brewing stands and other transparent blocks on colored blocks to alter the shade. Those that really happen?

    • @WintersLorcana
      @WintersLorcana  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Off the top of my head I can't remember what colors they are on the map, but brewing stands and cobwebs make their own colors, and can be shaded the same way. But they both have easier, alternative blocks that produce the exact same colors, and are far easier to get a ton of that there's no reason to use a brewing stand.
      The cobweb, maybe you'll use it, I think mushroom stems are the other block of that color. Both can be tedious to get a bunch of.
