Wow so many critical people!! Guys she has her own empire on DIY, she doesn't need to be so technical in terms as people who are gilding with real 24 karat gold leaf? Have no need to watch these videos. But you all know this already. This woman is simplifying a technique that comes out perfect for her audience and clientele. The waste is because she is trying to go quickly AND she MAKES this product, (or her manufacturer does) so don't worry about her waste. It is very thin and won't take up any room in our landfills....... Worry about that styrofoam cup you tossed this am after your hot java. Obviously a buyer will be more frugal in an application. These comments don't show your wit, they show your envy, which is one of those 7 no good sins. Nice job Amy, keep em coming, I am learning so much!!
So she has her own EMPIRE on DIY, that must be eye opening, if this is anything to go by, then I feel sorry for you and all who think this is in any way educating, there is nothing here to be envious about, is this what you are aiming for? if so, then I feel sorry for you, your loss.
I found that carpenter glue thinned just slightly is working well for gold leaf or imitation leaf application. Any small left-over real gold leaf pieces can be used for "Goldwasser" (clear liquor) which makes an attractive, sparkling drink. Don't use imitation gold for this!
I love that chair!! Would love to do something like that on my dining chairs. Amy is it possible to show us how to the technique you did on that chair please? Thank you.
Could this technique work on a trim around a mirrored piece of furniture. The current gold glided is too brassy, I would like to tone it down. I have a Blackish wrought iron bed. that I'll be using that mirrored side table with. Do you have any suggestion?
You can use a raw umber casein paint from Rosco Iddings. Mix with water to create a wash. Or you could use a raw umber Japan Paint, but make sure in either case that your leafing is shellacked with a clear topcoat first so you build up the tone on a protected ground. Those are two approaches. I often airbrush a ruby shellac with raw umber and a couple of other pigments to 'antique' the gilding.
If I’m gold leafing an old silver-plated tray, how do you keep from having the leaf overlay pieces. For example, after you leaf an area, and you move to another area, how do you keep the sizing from getting on the area that you’ve already done or is a little overlap ok?
I agree. The leaf shown is composition gold leaf, or imitation gold leaf, which are gold colored but not made from the precious metal, gold. Metal leaf is easier to work with though, and comes in a larger size, and is a whole lot cheaper than genuine gold leaf. I guess she's laying down bole to simulate water gilding and to give the composition gold a richer look?
roger sowers no. She is applying composite leaf which is made from different metals to simulate true gold leaf which is used on desserts as an edible design element when plating.
Omg an Italian 18yh cen piece silver gilded ....purist ??? This is pure criminal. No one should be allowed to do such a humiliating act on an antique barring the history of the country and time is from. Really despicable...I am disgusted
Dear Amy, I loved your tutorial. You were so clear and to the point. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!

You are not being taught Gilding.
Hi Amy, I loved your video. I think you are beautiful and all your pieces are done well.
Hi Amy, I got confused i thought bole was something you mixed with rabbit glue and water so that you didnt need size?
I love that chair!! Would love to do something like that on my dining chairs. Amy is it possible to show us how to the technique you did on that chair please? Thank you.

well done.
Amy does a great job on these tutorials. The background music is very distracting - would be even better without it. Thanks!
+MaryBeth Jones I totally concur. I have mentioned this once before. I will at the the music sounds eerie which is very distracting.
Amy, you should say you like to use METAL LEAF, and not gold paint. There is no gold leaf in your video.

Just another chancer.
Too much waste on leaf application.

@@tonyennis1787 Huh? Really, you think? Tony, it's about the material. You are just playing, right? Duh.
Nice tutorial. Thanks!
Is this the same as the edible gold leafs?
roger sowers no. She is applying composite leaf which is made from different metals to simulate true gold leaf which is used on desserts as an edible design element when plating.
I don't think i could handle that feat..Do you offer this guilding service? I need something small on leather guilded..

Background music is distracting. Lose it after 30 seconds or so.

what you doing is a waste and leaf is not cheap why not use the leaf that is not making contact with the sizing
It wasn't gold.
