    Years ago I worked on flight trainers for the US military. Specifically on navigational and weather radars. Back then, in order to build our maps, we would order the data from the US government who would send us a gigantic stack of CD-ROMs. Then we'd have to take those and do a ton of pre-processing on them to create a very small map of the area around the specific air force or navy base.
    The idea that we can do that for the whole world now impresses me to no end. I'm not even all that into planes but more into the technology of a 1:1 scale world and flying around in it.

      Just the fact that Google Maps works is kind of a miracle in itself (and the old "Google Earth Pro" standalone app has had a simple toy flight simulator in it as an Easter egg since 2007, so the idea that you could do that in a flight-sim context has even existed since then, if only as an unserious proof of concept).

    You’re spot on. Anyone who has been involved in flight simming for a decade or more recognizes just how fortunate we are. The passion of the developers and having a leader who “gets it” (bless you Jorg) is bringing us into a new era of flight simulation. I never dreamed it would get this good in my lifetime and I couldn’t be more excited. All the belly aching is an insult to the tremendous effort the Asobo/MS team has put into our beloved hobby. Keep calling it as you see it, love your candor!!!

    Coming from many, many years of FS, FSX, PrePar3D and X-Plane, I find it hard to understand why some struggle to appreciate that we have not had it so good when it comes to having access to MSFS 2024 at the prices being charged. For me, it is an investment for what looks like another 4 years. Maybe it is something to do with flight sims becoming more main-stream gaming and the attitude of younger generations, but it seems some will never be satisfied regardless of what is on offer.

    Don't remember exactly but I'm guessing the cost of Flight Simulator II from Sublogic was probably around $25 in 1984. You got wireframe graphics, one aircraft and four metro areas with airports. $25 in 1984 is around $75 today. So for a little more than twice that, you get unrivaled graphics, 125 aircraft and 160 upgraded airports (and over 30,000 airports all over the world). Yes the price is a shock at first. However when you think about it, it's incredibly cheap for what you're getting.
    Yes, I started my flight sim journey on Flight Simulator II on a Commodore 64. I'll upgrade to MSFS 2024 sometime next year once I get a new sim rig to handle it.

    I am old enough to have been a purchaser of the original flight simulator from Sub Logic, saw Microsoft come in with the acquisition that company, then exit, and thankfully return with the incredible MSFS 2020. So, I am completely with you, and thank you, for using your voice to acknowledge the value less than $100 a copy brought to the community with MSFS 2020; and for what recognizing what 2024 really is - the necessary platform for to the next generation of flight sim. My pre-order was in as soon as I saw what came out of the Grand Canyon launch event. I am glad you had the opportunity to be part of that and got to meet the Asobo principals and the key developers Asobo was so smart to bring in to the fold. 👍

    2020 is a thing of beauty, which one of the vast improvements from older sims for me has been the community folder, amazing freeware scenery and aircraft in hand with MSFS Addons Linker that allows me to keep huge amounts of data on external hard drive and manage all add ons so smoothly. Thank you to so many developers both pay and free that allow me to potter about UK, North America, NZ and my home of Aus with ease. Fingers crossed for 2024!

    Completely agree with your sentiments and how amazing the flight sim landscape is today. My first 'simulator' ran on a Dragon 32 (so named because it had 32k of memory!), and I remember being more than a little disappointed with how it looked . . .Still, it was the start of the PC era, and makes me appreciate what we now have. I think a few of those belly-aching about 2024 should take a step back and just realise how far things have come.

    Thanks for the round up, it answered a lot of questions. My biggest worry is the reliability of their servers. Currently, multiplayer is up and down at best, and it seems they haven't done anything to fix it. As someone that flies in a lot of large group flights (with Murph etc) multiplayer is a really important aspect of MSFS, and the fact that they're moving so much stuff to the cloud worries me. Asobo don't seem to care too much about multiplayer. Just my thoughts

    I'm investing in a new pc. Not specifically for fs2024, but because my Nvidia GTX 980ti is just not keeping up these days. I may not get fs24 straight away but I will have it eventually. Fs2020 is still an incredible looking sim, and I'm sure it's going to run better and look even more incredible on my new pc. As far as airplanes I only fly a select few GA planes along with the old airliners/cargo planes. Most of the planes that came with the sim are never used and are just cluttering my inventory. The features I like best about the new sim is the seasonal trees, career mode, and a more interactive environment. You've answered the questions I had about transferring my stuff over to the new sim. Thanks for that 🙂

    What I want to know is whether 2024 will have Dynamic Foveated Rendering. FR is reducing resolution off to the sides and keeping resolution normal straight ahead. DFR is keeping that sweet spot centered on where your eyes are looking. In other words, move your eyes and the sweetspot moves with them. DFR improves fps about 40% in DCS. DFR has to be built into the sim itself. DFR is in DCS now, it is not in MSFS 2020.

    • @AvAngel
      @AvAngel  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That seems awful for your eyesight and how does it track movement?

    • @acratone8300
      @acratone8300 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@AvAngel FR apps works with any head tracking device, or just when using a normal 2D monitor without tracking. As your head turns the sweet spot stays in the middle. DFR works when your head does not move, it works when only your eyes moves. So the image on the screen stays put, but the sweet spot moves. I don't know of any head tracker with DFR. But the Pimax Crystal VR headset does have DFR. And DCS has DFR support native in the sim. There are cameras in the Crystal watching your pupils. Someday this tech will come to head tracking hardware, The Crystal Light does not have DFR.

    Just came across your channel and I enjoyed your content and views on the new MSFS 2024 version. You mentioned that your setup for MFSF includes an NVidia 3070 ti. That's the same card I have. I also have three 27" monitors, all can do 60HZ whilst one can go up to 144Hz. If I use a single monitor in MSFS I achieve 80 to 90 FPS. If I add two more monitors, the rate drops to an unworkable 17 FPS. The other sim I use is DCS, here with three monitors active, I get 80 FPS with High and Ultra settings. Just wondering what frame rates you get with your 3070 ti in MSFS?

    • @AvAngel
      @AvAngel  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I run single monitor on ultra and it varies to around 60 or so. Multi monitor does usually need more than one card to really power it well, but it also needs the game to support it properly too

    I agree with you AvAngel. The sim will be amazing. And what we get for the price is insane. And I am not thinking of FS2024 as a complete deal that has everything but more of an amazing platform that the community can build on. Asobo said that the thing that they are excited for is what the community can do with this new version. This version is what they wanted the last one to be but they couldn't with its architecture. So this version will be so much better in so many ways. Sure we have to dish out some money to get this new version, but what you get is so much more than what we are paying for. And yes, without a doubt I got the Premium Deluxe Edition. I got the standard last time and regretted it later on. It's a no-brainer this time. It'll pay for itself when the Local Legends start rolling in. 😊

    MSFS 2024 looks amazing. But despite all the new features, you can get out and take pictures of the animals etc.. why are there still no flyby camera or Tower view camera options? When i put the fires out with my water bomber, have i got to use a replay feature to see that? Why not do a flyby camera view as am dropping the water onto the fire? Some may say such basic and immersive camera options, are essential, and its why every other flight sim includes them. Flyby and Tower view camera options were requested over and over for MSFS 2020, even during the Alpha and Beta stages, and they were consistently at the top of the Wishlist that Asobo claimed they looked at each month, yet we still haven't got them in MSFS 2020. MSFS 2024 sadly wont have these options either, I want to know why? What is stopping them? Is it a technical game engine issue? or Does someone at Asobo or MS not want us to have them? Its all very weird.

    • @acratone8300
      @acratone8300 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@acratone8300 Yes I agree with you, yet in the actual game cfg files of MSFS 2020, there is a specific camera cfg file, which actually includes a flyby camera definition, and a Tower definition, along with the spot and AI aircraft cameras. And Asobo themselves have also stated if enough people want a flyby camera in MSFS 2024 that they will include it. The fact is they know full well enough people wanted it in MSFS2020 and in MSFS 2024, so am assuming Asobo must be just plain lying, saying they will include it in MSFS 2024, when they know they cant or wont.

    I am ambivalently and skeptically positive, because back in the days, MS (nor any other big publisher) never really listened to its community as closely as this. When they tried to reach us (e.g. EA back in SimCity 2013 days) - they have their own agenda and lied to us.
    I was also under this impression that we will be forever upgrading and stick to MSFS - either paying for updates or simply getting piecemeal revamp on the same platform. But it was not like that when MSFS2024 was announced. But their explanation showed that they understood about their own shortcomings and why they should move forward with a new start. I guess, backward compatibility might show that it is not all that new, but the gaming aspects totally makes sense, and may worth the jump.
    MSFS2020 was like them annnouncing their come back after 14 years. It was way hyped, but many of us airliner enthusiasts shelved it for 1-2 years until Fenix & PMDG released theirs (sorry Aerosoft, your CRJs are not even finished to this day). When we showed Asobo what could have been, what the community have been doing in FSX, P3D, X-Plane - PMDG, iniBuilds, JustFlight, iFly, including new comers like Fenix, and many others - I really really appreciate the response from MS and Asobo: they are humbled and receptive. The planes got "avionics update" from talented community members - probably never thought of that before.
    It shows that Asobo cares, they know better, and they know what could have been, they are unsatisfied with themselves. The decision to ask 3rd party professionals to do the aircraft and scenery for them?
    You wish they were that inclusive and open minded back then. In FS95, the 737-400 has a croissant shaped engine that sounds like a cheap vacuum cleaner, they didn't get it right in FS2004 either. In FS:X things are starting to get better with default aircraft, but the modelling quality and system depth really leave quite a massive lot to be desired. A GTA mod have a much better model.
    I never thought I would live in a day when MSFS Developers/Publishers included a default aircraft made by high-fidelity professional specialists.
    Gone are the days of ignorant video game corpo CEOs claiming that their "Forza Motorsport" racing sim is so realistic that no modern processor could run it properly. Oblivious to the existence of Assetto Corsa, iRacing, rFactor (and what is used by Formula 1 racing team), RBR. Back in the days, ignorant overpaid adults can totally misled the gullible kids and home consumers. Not anymore!
    I think the greater community involvement from non-aviation crowd, the social media, non-simmers, really helped a lot too. It attracted quite a lot of real world professionals, both first time and long time simmers that helped be the ultimate voice.

    I agree with all of the positive vibes regarding MSFS 2024. Its definitely a step in the right direction. Just hope the developers of all of the "study level" aircraft make their products for MSFS 2024 compatible within a resonable time frame. Also hope that the sim offers less stutters, as we approach our favourite airports. That ubiquitous immersion killing effect we all hate. This new sim could also be a shittyyyy wallet experince for many though, lol !. I guess many will want to upgrade to a new PC. Whether RTX 4000 series or the new RTX 5000 series January 2025, and perhaps to an Intel Ultra 285K. (Bit scary all of those 13900k, 14900K Intel crashes ! we have been hearing about.) But of course that is not necessary as the specs for MSFS 2024 are quite reasonable. But there comes a time when an RTX 2080 TI, or Intel 8700k CPU needs to go into retirement perhaps. But then again maybe not !. There are many mid tier systems giving a smooth experience at 30-45 FPS. Thats all you need in a flight simulator. Interesting times ahead for this amazing flight simulator. I am completely with you on a product we should all be thankful for, something that stimulates the mind and excites the imagination in a hobby that is really cool !. Thank you for this excellent insight and your honesty regarding MSFS 2024.

    Don't fly many Asobo/default planes I'm more into the Fenix, black square, a2a, bandwagon I probably won't even use half the aircraft in the Aviator edition but I think I got my money's worth out of 2020 many times over so I don't mind spending the £200 for the aviator's edition to get everything and support the dev's I think they deserve it after all the free world updates, that we have got on 2020 and will get on 2024 no doubt.
    The only thing I'm kind of annoyed at so far is no flyby or tower views at release that is my only critique.
    Personally, I cannot wait for the career mode but it needs to get 3rd party planes included I mean it's a singleplayer career mode currently so the only one you will be cheating is yourself hopefully they add 3rd party planes into career mode or that means I will probably just stick with my on-air subscription as I don't see the point in doing a career mode without the 3rd party planes being restricted to free flight hopefully they can enhance the career mode and make it a fully multiplayer mode with industries.
    How cool would It be if they added in lots of different industries to the career mode you need to replace your tyres, on your plane, etc, in career mode well someone manufactures tyres in one of their factories it would be amazing if that is the stage the career mode got to with a full multiplayer driven economy, hopefully, they will also add AI pilots in also as trying to manage a bigger fleet by yourself is a nightmare or even add in the ability to create a virtual airline to join others.

    After the utter and total failure of MS Flight, I thought there would never be another MS Flight Simulator, so when MSFS20 was announced, I was so happy to hear it because I had already started piecing together that it was coming when Dovetail's Flight Sim World failed, and MS took back FSX:SE from Dovetail that is when I had a good suspicion that a new FS was coming. It would still be a few years away. To this day though I do not know why Asobo started out with the FSX code and not the MS Flight code but, that is something to ask them. MS Flight's flight engine was fantastic and way better than FSX, MSP, and P3D, so I don't know why they didn't develop that further. I do know that they gutted all the FSX code early on though or most of it. MSFS24 looks fantastic and I am so ready for it. I'll be flying it on Game Pass at first but, as a Christmas gift I am getting the Limited Collectors Edition but I have to wait till then to get it, and I almost can't wait.

    Microsoft Flight Sim has always been a big system tester, you've always needed the most monster system to come close to it being usable maxed out on release. But between optimizations over time and hardware improvements, it becomes something you can absolutely peg all the sliders on and still have acceptable performance. And what's it worth? Boy that's a tough one, but it's worth what you'll pay for it. Back when I was actively flying, FSX and X-Plane were two places I would sometimes "pre-fly" a route just to get a general idea of someplace I perhaps hadn't been before or if I wanted to re-practice a procedure. These days, it's because I don't actively fly anymore so this is my "fix", so to me it's worth whatever I can afford! Hopefully it keeps going up and up with 2024 like we got with 2020, I appreciate your thoughts and they do play into my decisions, thank you!

      Yeah, that’s like the high detail airports. I don’t know if I’ve ever flown out of one of the superdetailed hand crafted airports or not, because the first thing I do when I spawn in is to start up the airplane, if it wasn’t already started, and fly away. Because it’s a flight sim and flying aircraft is what you do. Most of the time I’m hundreds or thousands, or tens of thousands, of feet off the ground and I can’t tell the good airports from the bad ones at those distances. Now, high detailed airPLANES I can get behind, because I’m going to staring at my plane, either the cockpit or the exterior, for long stretches of time, and I like it when it looks good.
      Actually, I take my first statement back. I *have* knowingly flown out of a hand crafted airport before-Catalina Island. I only did that, though, because I’d been there in real life and wanted to see if it looked as good in the sim (it did). I actually flew the drone camera around there quite a bit, exploring the little informative displays they have outside. But that was all just because I’d been there before, and it was small enough and distinctive enough for me to want to explore it in-sim. I can’t see myself getting as excited over a big international airport for instance.
