Great video! I produce house. As one who has been able to reach -9 LUFS however I feel like the I can’t get the mix to breath that much. I have used hi pass filtering often to take out overlapping sounds to open up the mix more. I have been improving in using compression as well as how the sounds combine together to get it right. Would like to hear thoughts on this. I feel like my compression skills could use some work, I understand the basics. Should every sound be compressed? Thanks a bunch!
If your limiter is working too hard at -9lufs and your mix can't breathe, sounds like you either have too much low end, too many overlapping/buildup frequencies or a combination of both. For edm and house music typical loudness ranges around -7 or -6lufs that works for me. Like mentioned in the video tame your transients before it hits the limiter and of course tonal balance on the overall mix. Use analyzers to see what's going on on your mix, Span is a free one I use on every project.
I try to avoid using filters on the master tho, since it can mess with phase and actually make the audio peak higher although you're cutting. Prefer shelves and bells for eq moves on the master. But I tell myself to fix it in the mix itself. Hopefully it helps, cheers.
Solid advice man. Remember work in stages and don't rely on the limiter alone for loudness.
And what's your Shepard's name? Boy or girl? What an appearance he or she made!👍
My goal for 2025 is to achieve -1 LUFS ...😮 ... LET'S GOO
Bro don't you have channel for your beats?? Why not? If so I don't see it
