30:11 is the single most important piece of advice in this tutorial. Newcomers please take heed and set your navigation correcting HIGH in your crew management tab for someone like your captain or "second" in command. Someone should always be navigating to keep navigational correctness above a certain percentage. Getting lost is a serious pain in the ass, sometimes taking a full day to figure out where your ship is on the map. I literally ran into the north coast of Spain after getting lost, and only realized I had done so when I heard an awful pounding sound coming from outside the hull. My crew then spent something like 19 hours sitting in the water trying to figure out what land I was looking at.
As a vet of Silent Hunter this was good to see to compare. The reason why it switches between diesel and electric with the snorkel is due to rough seas and the Dinesen switch off as they take their air from the cabin. SS are star shells foe illumination at night. Should use HE shells on merchant ships, the6 have no armor. Finally you can engage Liberty ships with your 88mm gun as it has superior distance than merchants and can attack at 3 km, well out of range of the Liberty ships! Think Tiger verses Sherman! Very informative 😀
The target "course" is actually the angle to bow of your sub if I am not mistaken.... (around 55:00) That's why they all had a different value in degrees... Basically, they are all on an approx bearing of 10 degrees while having a different angle as seen from yourself (due to not being in the exact same spot of course). This calculation is computed into the inertial navigation system of the torpedo so it knows which way to turn after leaving the tube.
I think the different angles that are shown for the different ships in your targeting solutions are not the course, but the angle-on-bow relative to your boat. Hence why they are different for each ship, since they have different positions relative to your vessel. Otherwise, a really nice tutorial to get started with the game!

This game looks good. I would love a game made in this style, with the cutaway view, but on a cold war era Nuclear Submarine. So like the game Cold Waters, but like this.
Excellent tutorial! After playing Silent Hunter years ago this looks amazing. Love the cutaway and ability to switch to 1st person and crew management system. I hope as crew skill level increases they require less micro management for basic roles or functions.
Awesome video. I've only been playing this for a couple of days and there was loads of stuff in here I didn't know about, will definitely improve my game. Subscribed :)

Just bought the game and I really hope there's more ways to automate some of the crew stuff. Right now it's WAY too much micromanagement. I won't be playing it if I have to do common sense stuff that a semi-competent crew should know how to do.
@@TobelPlays Thanks for the reply, It wasn't very clear to me. So the officers and assigned crew just significantly improve the way the job is done, right?
A few tips if anyone is interested, submarines are “boats”. Not ships. Civilian mistake. Officers on ships bring scoped rifles on board so they may fire at exposed personnel on the conning tower or casing if you surface within range. Avoid chasing ships unless you have no choice; they are on the radio calling for help. Submarines are ambush predators. Don’t leave your periscope up when attacking, this can be spotted by your target. Cheers.
This made me buy the game since I now have the basics and I was put off for a bit because I was unsure if I was able to even get a hang of it but it looks so easy, the way you show it. Good job mate. Waiting for it to install/download , I just wonder how big the map is, is it the whole Earth or ?
Keep in mind that he uses manual data gathering for target solution. That's an interesting gimmic for subsim-fans, but a casual player can just leave the calculations to the crew. Same with the deck-gun. It's cool to be ammo-efficient, but one could just took them down with a single salvo of torps.
Has someone else had issues with refilling your boat with torpedoes, at port, having paid for them and all; problem being that they just don't fill the holds? (The stern side does get resupplied, but not the bow.)
Hi many thanks for this vid very useful I had a problem with static targets and my torpedos disapeared off in the wrong direction just wondered what you do with the chronometer as if the target isnt moving ? Many thanks Paul
It's cool to have this much control over every aspect of the game, but I have to assume they are all competent at performing their various tasks and hopefully won't require micro management. Doesn't the ship get upgraded and repaired each time we return to port or do I have to hire a welder and supply him with a new pair of gloves? I like never having to worry about the crew or the cost of a new snorkel, but you're saying we might get lost in the Atlantic Ocean because the guy was busy cooking up some cheese...
You dont want mess around with planes. Best thing you can do is go down asap. Trust me, flak is waste of time and any depth charge dropped anywhere close to your sub can do lots of damage. Just dive as soon as you get plane/contrail report and turn as he loses sight of you. It may not be as deadly as planes in SH, but its still deadly.
@@Mrcheekymonkeyisback No, Star Shells are to be fired at a high arch, they burst into a shower of bright materials that float down and burn up illuminating an area. They are essentially temporary spot lights. Like a flare gun.
Can you make a video on how to fully repair the ship? I got damage on my rudder and it's really difficult to turn, it actually takes about 2 hours in game to go 180
Holy cow, that's horrible! I might try to do a more in-depth tutorial series down the road. I think if its rudder you might have to return to port, that's external damage no?
@@TobelPlays Not sure if you figured this out or not. But the idea of the star shells is that you fire them at a high elevation. So they have time to light up the target.
I always thought AOB is their course relative to your course? so If they have a course of 10 degrees, and you have a course of 3 degrees, the AOB is 7 degrees. This is how it worked in SH3 if I recall. So if you were perp to them, the AOB would be 90 degrees, no matter what their actual compass course is.
You are correct, but I don't thing the game is using actual AOB calculation. It's taking their actual course and having you in put that. Sadly not quite as in depth as we might hope for yet.

@@HAWKSTA24 I mean he's not wrong, you can set a torpedo to fire straight forward or back from its tube if the target was so close, the torpedo doesn't need to know the target position in order to correct for current deviation it only needs to know how far off its course its going.
