A quick little tip: After you fire a torpedo at a ship you can immediately start flooding a new tube before switching to a new target which let's you save a few seconds if you need want to get torpedoes out a little faster
Are you a reincarnation of a U-Boat commander? This is the ultimate guide to planning an attack - it is far easier to follow than the actual Kriegsmarine guide. A convoy usually goes at the same speed as the slowest but what would you do with zig-zaging vessels
Hmmm? I have not developed a definitive solution to zig zagging vessels. Typically the convoy is small like this one and I can eliminate it with one salvo of torpedoes. I will have to think about that one...🤔
I was told, but have not confirmed yet, that when ships are weaving, just reduce the speed in the attack screen by 1/2 knots and try to time it so that when they begin to turn towards you, that’s when you fire
How do you know when to launch? I have several hundred hours in SH4. In Sh4, I'm on the periscope, watching the target, and launching at a very precise time. In your video, after setting the target parameters, you just launch??
Can you give orders like a skipper? Y'know, like 'Man the bridge' and what-not, so when you surface you can set proper watch. 'Rig to dive' and 'Battle stations' would be cool, too. Sorry if I've already missed this stuff, new to the channel...
Thanks for the video. Question: can all the measurements be done using map tools? Such as distance and speed as well? If so, how? Question number 2: All the tutorials I've seen on TH-cam are typically done in the most favorable weather, so it's easier to use the periscope tools to get the measurements. What if we catch a convoy at 2 am? It's quite hard to see, any tutorial planned for the night attacks or any tips?
Sorry for the late reply. I plan on doing some updates on this video very soon! My new COVID-19 Schedule has thrown me for a bit of a loop. The short answers to your questions are this. 1: Yes you can estimate speed and distance on the map. I have been practicing this and plan to get a video out on in soon! 2: This is sort of related to question one. if you know how to find the course, speed, and distance in the map you could theoretically plot a target without using the periscope (only Hydrophone). I plan to go over this as well. Thanks for the questions and I look forward to answering them soon!
Speed is not too bad to calculate, but you need a stopwatch in hand (so you'll need to quickbutton periscope view - map tool, or use a real one. Some mods let you have a stopwatch in the map, like the TDC mod). This is if your interface is set to nautical miles and speed into knots: Draw a mark anywhere in the ship and start the stopwatch. Wait 3 mins, 15 sec (time to travel 1 nmi at 10 knots), mark at the same point of the ship again, and use the ruler tool to determine distance between the two points. You multiply by ten (so if the ship travels 0.6 nmi, his speed would be 0.6*10=6 knots). If you are in a hurry, you can measure half the time, which is 1 min and 27 sec, and multiply the final result by 2. If you use are not using nautical miles, 1 nmi= 1.85km and 1.15 miles, but the less math you do, the more precise the results will be, as you are using real numbers, not integers. Distance is super easy using the ruler tool.
Hello. Great video! Do you have to position your boat respective to each target (90 degrees or so) before you fire a torpedo or does the crew do it automatically for you?
No, you do not have to "point" the Tubes at your target to ensure an accurate torpedo. The torpedo will leave your boat and turn to travel down the bearing you assigned it to. this is 100% not realistic but the game would be much more difficult if you had to align all the shots this way. it would be nice to see them implement this as an optional setting for the "hardcore" players similar to Realistic Night, Full FPP, and Harcore Aiming.
Question : when I have entered manual targeting (speed, distance, course), the numbers become green. How do I cancel manual targeting after that to come again in crew targeting, the numbers don't change. I didn't find that... Thanks !
Hey man thanx for the info and upload ! simple and fun to work with. !! By the way can you maybe explain a bit about the speed of the torpedo, what effect it will do for the calculations you did on the map. if you up the speed knots on the torpedo?. Thanx again man !
Hey Brad! There should be an eraser in the map tool bar. The very bottom of the column I believe. Select it and click The points. Ruler and compass lines will disappear as you remove their respective points. Hope that helps!
This is one of my frustrations with 128. I have been drowning the lines out to the patrol sector boarders. But yeah not having grid lines has been irritating
What depth is best for the hydrophones to get maximum range? Periscope depth or deeper between 20 - 40m under water? Some say 30m-ish is best and some say periscope depth. I usually go down to around 30.
I am not sure myself. I have had no problems at periscope depth but have been typically diving to 30ish meters. I have not noticed any notable difference but i will take any edge I can get, lol!
You are not wrong! I keep wanting to make an update to this video but, covid19 has not helped my schedule and i keep finding new things i want to add to it! i plan to get it out in the next few weeks. stay tuned.
i do this but when i put in the angle it just shoots it exactly at the point that the ship is at not the point the its going too and the ai never puts an angle above 10 degrees and always hits dead on is there any way i could improve the aiming or am i doing something wrong on the measurments.
I never get to this part because I spend hours trying to trigger whatever the fucking UI wants for me to find the abandoned submarine . FIX THE DOGSHIT UI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HELLO! I have a more updated version of this video! Here th-cam.com/video/xl68r6jJ8ew/w-d-xo.html
lol, even worse!^^

Hey how do you make the ships show on ur map, it never does that for me which is really annoying

new to the game and I've watched a lot of tutorial videos. Yours was one of the best I've watched.
What a Lovely Peacekeeping documentary
Heh, I used a very similar system in vanilla SH4 to attack allied convoys, marking the map with dots and finding out curse and general speed.
Good job, your best on the targeting map that I have seen.
keep going Captain, and maybe you too can enter the legendary 100k Club!!!!

I can try but I am afraid I will slowly start talking like a pirate for no rational reason...
I meant in-game... so not to have to micro-manage every aspect...
Thanks for the video.

@@RedDragon_1211 so I’ve been unnecessarily aiming my torpedos this entire time? Well I guess I’m not as good as I thought

1940's sat data-link looks very advanced
Thank you so much your explanation was the easiest I’ve found.
so at 3 km or more, they cant see you in clear weather? if so, now i can feel safe about surfacing during the day..
How do you delete way points? I am definitely going to utilize your tutorial. Thank You

ok and what if we dont have the north and south map lines? because my game doesn't. my map looks different and its impossible to calculate course now.
This is one of my frustrations with 128. I have been drowning the lines out to the patrol sector boarders. But yeah not having grid lines has been irritating
Impressive, epic good job !

@@RedDragon_1211 haha same with me. I usually do the long range checks at 30ish meter and once closer, I stay at 10m to periscope depth.
Hi can I to do a question please? How is possible to set a cinematic camera? Free camera i mean.
oh gosh i always have to look this one up. I believe it is the "N" key by default.
@@RedDragon_1211 thx very much ;-)
very nicely explained, now sink ing ships seems alot easier with that knowledge...
Don't we need to recalculate the distance to the target right before we launch the torpeedos since they get closer as time pass?
You are not wrong! I keep wanting to make an update to this video but, covid19 has not helped my schedule and i keep finding new things i want to add to it! i plan to get it out in the next few weeks. stay tuned.
Walter, I want one of these boats
very interesting upload
I LOVE THIS VIDEO THANK YOU SO MUCHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish you were my math teacher
Gracias brother...eres increible tio lo explicas perfecto..muchas gracias

How you display the sight circle with "Sight" word?
You can usually see a ship up to 12 nautical miles out with the naked eye
Thank you, helped me alt
Very nice
My map doesn't have as frequent graphing on the map
Good one, thanks
Sehr gut erklärt.
Ah yes...Peacekeeping
grazie^^
