  • My approach when touching up a razor on a coticule. I am by no means proficient with them yet, but I am sharing what I have learned so far. I hope to help others when honing their own razors.
I hope you enjoy and thank you for watching.

Impressive! As you aware, learning a coticule does not come over night, once you do they are effortless and magical. You already have a strong foundation because you figured out the MAIN KEYS! Managing pressure and slurry management. Slowly diluting, keeping your slurry hydrated, and milking pressure down to mosquito wing 😂. After that it’s just tinkering with your finish to get the face feel you enjoy.
I love just about all natural stones, but the diversity of a coticule puts it top of my list.
Well done 2 piece series. I really enjoyed it.

Thank you Eric. All your information and videos have been very helpful for me getting to this point with the coticules.

Awesome series Robert! Would love to see more of these in the future, I’m so glad you’re putting the reps in with these stones, cheers my friend!

Very cool series! One of the best parts about honing on natural stones is figuring out the nuances of each stone. When you finally figure it out, you have that “oh yeah, there it is” moment. Nothing more satisfying than putting steel to stone and creating a keen shaving edge, especially with a vintage blade. Excellent work!

Very impressive honing there on that W&B Rattler. I really enjoyed this series of videos. Can’t wait to see what you post next!

I am going to do one on the La Grise next. It is a bit more touch and go with getting a balanced edge. You can always get a comfortable edge but not always a keen one,
Thank you for watching and commenting John.
I hope you the best and are well.

Great honing videos Robert! Those smiling blades can be tricky, but it looks like you have that rolling action down pat. Nice job brother!👍🏼

Sounds like a lot of work. I spent 3 days just trying to repair some scales. Labor of love. I hope your feather shavette turns out well.
      Cheers.

Nice to see these fascinating stones in action, and your process. I am working through my coticule collection at the moment. There is always something new to learn about these if you look hard enough. I never understood the hone until it stick thing, especially with coticules. Even if the stone releases some garnets you don't need a constant flow of water, unless you are only interested in the polish at the bevel. As long as the edge/apex looks good i can tolerate some random scratches on the bevel.
    How did the razor shave?

I am glad that I am not the only one with similar experience with the cotis. I like to try sticking to one stone to get it to know it well as I can. But I often try all different ways in order to rule out methods that are unproductive.
I agree with the random scratches, it is more important to have consistency than just polish.
It shaved the best I have ever had with that razor. The perfect ballence of smooth and keenness. The previous hone was close but not keen enough, so this session really refined it to the way I like it.
Thank you for commenting and watching.
I wish you the best and happy honing. :)

The reason it is in two parts is because of youtube limiting the video to 15 min. Linking a phone number that is tied to your account, used for two-factor-authentication, is a bad idea for channel and personal security. So much of our personal information is available online, and making it easier for bad actors to steal more is something that I would like to avoid. There are better options, but this is what youtube insists on, so I will just have to make series of videos.
Thank you for commenting and watching Rob.
I hope you have a good one.

@@nonamebear1136that TH-cam limited the videos to 15 minutes is not true! I know so many TH-camrs who have much longer videos such as 15, 30 and 45 minutes. And they have millions of subscribers. Important is only how many watch time , views you get. Likes, comments how long the video is that not important more for TH-cam. It was in the past maybe but no more! But I appreciate it how you make it and I will watch your videos also in future. For security I don't fear anyone, first I have Kali Linux, second I have a special security if something happens. And on my pc to find something it would be years needed to find.
