Strange thing about money. My sister and her husband were happier when they didn't have a few million in the bank. Once they did the marriage blew apart and he became mean. Decent point about why Peter shouldn’t feel so angry at Ace for redoing the contract. That was Ace’s business. Peter used to describe the moment when Ace revealed how much money he made like the ultimate betrayal. In fact Ace took a pay cut in 1996 bc Peter wasn’t satisfied with what he was being offered with the initial reunion tour

To have 10 million dollars in the middle of the 70s is a unbelievable amount of money. Back then the most expensive cars were under 20,000 dollars. A mansion then cost 200,000 dollars. Even a airplane back then was under 100,000 dollars. In the 70s it would have really been hard to spend a million dollars without having assets to show for it and the assets would have made you money 😂.
It wasn’t 10 mill in the middle of the 70s. It was the early 80s. Cars: sigh. A Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 4 door was 85k. Ferrari 308 was 50k plus. Mansion: Sigh. A simple colonial mansion in Beverly Hills was 800k to a million. Casa Encantada in Bel-Air sold for 225k in 1950 to Conrad Hilton. Sold in 1980 for 12.5 million. You really don’t know what you don’t know.
@@jamespohl-md2eqWhen Elvis died in 1977 ,he had a mansion more than a dozen of the most expensive cars that could be bought at the time and a airplane and of it together was worth 1 million dollars..Just 2 million dollars would have allowed a person to buy twice that amount.
@@BenoitWeiss-cg8pfI know where it came out. That doesn’t mean they had 10 million in 1975. Jfc. The narrator tells you that it was 10 million in the 80s. Before the reunion he had net of a million. Either way, it’s a deflection from your absurd idea about the price of cars, etc.
It never ceases to amaze me how people can have 10 or 15 million and ever end up broke. Don't get me wrong, I can see spending that much, actually, it wouldn't be terribly hard but you would think people could refrain from just blowing through that much. Conservatively invested, 10 million would let you spend 100 grand a month without dipping into the principle to much. Easily last a lifetime plus.
I saw them in 2000. Peter showed zero energy. Clocked in and then clocked out. Ace was great. I saw them again in 2014 and again in 2018 after both were gone. Those two shows were great. Glad I stuck it out because both were “free” shows. College Final Four promotion show in New Orleans and then Gretna Fest.
Not sure how accurate Celeb Net Worth is but it claims Ace is worth a Mil. as of 2024. Don't know if that includes assets? If it does that ain't much nowadays...
Celeb Net Worth websites make up a number out of thin air. But maybe true. Peter Criss said in an interview that during the Reunion tour Ace spent a lot of money on women and stuff. And after he left KISS, apparently he spent a lot of his KISS money.
I saw kiss one time. It was when they jad their makeup back on. I dont know if it was the originals or not. That night still rocked and the place was packed.
While I was The Spaceman on Halloween 1979, Ace was definitely NOT the most popular member in the 70s. Gene Simmons was the most recognized face in the band. Ace's solo album sold more simply because the songs were better.
Ace wasn't "the most popular member of the band"...arguably, it was Gene. There are many factors as to why Ace's solo album was received better than the other 3. But in reality, the reason was because of a song that he used that wasn't his "New York Groove". Mistakes made by Casablanca in regard to the singles from the solo albums had a lot to do with Ace's popularity. The single for Paul's album "Hold me, touch me", was a huge mistake as it didn't represent the sound of his solo album which was the most Kiss-like of them all.
All I know is after 12yr old me opened up Dynasty, then Unmasked I left and never came back.. but when I did..I only played the 70s stuff. Very little 80s and nothing after that.
@HappyMachorino-bd8no what are you talking about? They lost me after dynasty and Unmasked. I didn't care any longer. I still go back once in a great while and play something from the 70s, but I can't tell you how many albums they had after Unmasked.
Without Gene and Paul taking the business side of it seriously they never would have lasted through the 80's. I love Ace and Peter, but they can't play the victims when all they wanted to do was live like drunken sailors.
It was but, check out how many session musicians were on that album and who played the solo on the title track. Mr. Mister anyone? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatures_of_the_Night
Exactly - it is ridiculous that Peter feels subverted by Ace. He's a grown man. They aren't Siamese twins. And with that said? Ace is far more popular, he wrote more songs, he designed the logo, etc. Even if they went in together Ace was worth more based on contributions so there should be no argument and besides. Peter could have negotiated his price up. From all indications he never tried.
Back in 1975 Kiss was tied with Donna Summer as the highest paid music stars. I remember this story and it said Kiss and Donna Summer both made $100 million that year alone. Now that was gross income, not take home pay. But I think your numbers are off by quite a bit.
Gene and Paul were the stern "Mother and Father". Ace and Peter were the bratty , drunk , druggy teenagers of the family. (Peter was more into Alcohol / ACE was more into drugs- but they both did everything. ) .
If Kiss Biggest chart hit was "Beth" wrote and performed by Peter Criss it's more than fair that Peter deserves what he generated in monetary terms for the Band with that smash hit. But the 2 POS ,Paul and the Huge Despicabale Greedy Turd called Gene Simmons as always want everything for himself no matter what. Peter and Ace despite what did happen on close doors actually deserve much more that what they did get from the Kiss catalog.
Gene and Paul knew what they had and Gene being the marketing genius. He is put his copyright on everything they were all feeding off the kiss label. It's their fault they could have had billions
This communistic idea nearly demaged KISS. Why should Peter get 1/4 profit when he didn't write 1/4 songs? Why should they pay Ace 1/4 profit and pay studio musicians extra to do his work? And he even refused to help to carry the gear. "Equality" is a romantic idea. But very destructive.
Other Bands who split everything equal: U2, The Doors, R.E.M. But normally - money goes to the SONG WRITERS. (Lennon / McCartney, Plant / Page, etc.) . Other people like Madonna write VERY LITTLE . So as rich as she is - if she wrote all her songs she would be a BILLIONAIRE , not a MILLIONAIRE.
Look , Gene and Paul talked about Ace and Peter like dogs and blamed them for everything while they were in the reunion tour , but they should’ve been kissing their ass , because if Ace and Peter hadn’t agreed to do the reunion , KISS would’ve been retired way before 2023. Gene would be doing budget movies and Paul would’ve been doing solo acoustic shows. 👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
"They didn't want Ace to leave the band???"...And yet they were calling in Vinnie Curano (Vincent) and other studio players for the albums, reportedly went after Eddie and Alex Van Halen before they made it big and even had rumours they tried to electrocute Ace on Stage!!!!...(hence Shock Me)....Stanley's tell all book has Ace portrayed as an out of control addict and his playing suffered ....Ace even wrote "Rock Soldiers" documenting that.
It's not contradictory. Paul wrote Ace's solo album was the height of his creativity. But Ace was clever. He gave his weaker song material to the band and saved the stronger songs for his solo project. From the KISS point of view it's obvious that Ace sabotaged the band. To prove that he is solo bigger than KISS. And not to forget, when he left KISS, Ace simply had to WORK and release albums. He needed an income. But when his addiction became worse it's plausible that his creativity and ability suffered.
@@HappyMachorino-bd8no Uhm....Most of KISS mayerial and nearly ALL their hits were written by Stanley/Simmons....They also brought in other writers from Desmond Child to Bryan Adams....Absolutely no one was holding their breath that Ace would sober up enough to write anything meaningful. Just these days Ace still bragged and asked the audience: ",Whose album was the best?" And he expected applause. Watch his live performance at the Rocktober Festival. His solo record is everything he has. Because he sold more. And he still thinks, he's bigger than KISS.
Peter was a stripped down drummer in ‘96 - and was no longer a member. Ace was a drunk and still lazy practicing in ‘96 - and was no longer a member of the band. It isn’t hard to understand why they weren’t “equals”. Because they weren’t. Peter dug himself out of hole, and for not doing much of anything musically (again) since 2003, and he’s been fine. Ace had his vices when he left, and finally cleaning himself up. He’s fine now as well.
@@HappyMachorino-bd8no they may have been equal founding members, but they were not equals in ‘96 - and for good reason. Business does not work that way. it is indeed a lot of money, but you should not forget the taxes you have to pay on what you're earned, plus the advances you have to pay based on what you earned durin' the year b4. that's why so many artists end up broke, one bad year and you're done.
Most people will never earn $1m in their entire life. I don't get how celebrities blow many $m's in such a short time. Vinnie Vincent has lived in a modest home a rural Tennnessee neighborhood, quite the contrast from other Kiss members.
One million dollars can be fifty thousand a year . If you spend from the million . You will be broke . With that much money you probably can't spend that much on drugs , however drugs fuel the LIFE STYLE . That will break you if you still have a life .

kiss is no longer the kiss that we grew up with ...if this is true that they sold everything, kiss catalog, logo, and name .... then kiss is nothing anymore than a legacy of iconic masks with nostalgic music that stands the test of time
After Ace left in 2002, Peter’s pay declined to $25,000 and then $10,000 per show for subsequent tours.

ACE FOREVER !!!
Strange thing about money. My sister and her husband were happier when they didn't have a few million in the bank. Once they did the marriage blew apart and he became mean. I always said if i won the mega millions id leave the country as soon as the paperwork was signed and met with a bank mngr. Id take the 20yr pay out. Go rent an apartment in Vienna. Ride the euro rail and get off wherever i feel like. Just travel Europe and be anonymous. Knowing i never have to work again. I would dig it the most, to say the least
How does one lose 22 million dollars?
Not paying taxes on time, squandering everything else
slowly at first then all at once
In his case it was cocain
Getting married!
great work Kar!! awesome!!
Many thanks, I appreciate!! ✌❤
@@karsguitarchannel6088 remember Karl how Gene and Paul did Eric Carr. A very loyal band member as soon as he got Cancer they dropped him and never looked back. They didn't even bring him up. Almost like Eric never existed. That is unforgivable.
@@Suzanne-t3l Yes it looks cruel but they had to keep going. And it's very tragic what happened to Eric. Very sad
@jamespohl-md2eq both left Kiss in 1982 , by the middle of the 80s they were already out of the band 3 years.
@@jamespohl-md2eq Kiss alive came out in 1975 ,that's pretty much the middle of the 70s😂. I guess you really don't know what you don't know.
Thank You > Very Educational & Eye Opening.
You are very welcome, great pleasure!!
Im aces nephew, he blew through money like water. I watched it.
Hi Gary, how is Ace doing now?
Im Ace's lovechild with Lucille Ball.
Stop fibbing, Gary.
Sad to hear that blew the money. Hope he is doing well
Thank You for this history 👍
You are very welcome Robert, great pleasure!
Hey the destroyer album cover is a German one...right?
Yes, looks like one for Germany
I saw them in 2000. Peter showed zero energy. Clocked in and then clocked out. Ace was great. I saw them again in 2014 and again in 2018 after both were gone. Those two shows were great. Glad I stuck it out because both were “free” shows. College Final Four promotion show in New Orleans and then Gretna Fest.
Ace did the right thing
When he agreed to accept professional medical help.
It was apparently in 1996, it was the original line up
@karsguitarchannel6088 no it was in the early 2000s. Cause I took my ex. When we were dating.
Where did the money go???
While I was The Spaceman on Halloween 1979, Ace was definitely NOT the most popular member in the 70s.
Gene Simmons was the most recognized face in the band. Ace's solo album sold more simply because the songs were better.
When you look at Kiss and Twisted Sister, you know that what the say about a certain group of people is absolutely true.
Stupid and racist is no way to go through life.
Very good! I learned alot
Thank you!!
Derp
I bought Paul's and Gene's albums. They were my favorite members.
Paul's album was by far my favorite.
All I know is after 12yr old me opened up Dynasty, then Unmasked I left and never came back.. but when I did..I only played the 70s stuff. Very little 80s and nothing after that.
Sixteen-year-old me was out the moment I heard "I Was Made for Lovin' You." I guess no one told them disco sucked.
@@sd31263 haha! Yup. I was so embarrassed I wouldn't turn my stereo above 1 or 2. I didn't want anyone in the house to hear how awful it was.
@@sd31263
Not true. Disco didn't "suck". It was very popular. Did no one told you?
Even The Rolling Stones made disco (Miss You).
@@joeb2588
When it was so "awful" why did you listen then?
The only thing you should be embarrassed about is your dishonesty.
Of course Ace is one of the greatest guitarists of all time so if course that has some impact.
Kiss is one of those bands you either love 'em or hate 'em. I lean to the former. PLAY LOUD
Paul and Gene weren't almost bankrupt before the reunion.
Peter also said, he had a lawyer and was totally disappointed with the outcome of selling his rights!!!
Hard to feel bad for Ace and Peter.
Peter should have made his own stake.
So Ace was going 0:01 for the Lilly Tomlin look? WTF was all that about Space Ace?
What about Vinny Vincent looking EXACTLY like Elvira (Cassandra Patterson) without make up ?
I love Ace, but Creatures of the Night with Vinny Vincent is a kick ass album.
It was but, check out how many session musicians were on that album and who played the solo on the title track. Mr. Mister anyone?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatures_of_the_Night
Peter Criss left the band May 18th 1980 that's the same day Mount Saint Helens blew
Coincidence?? I don't think so....
Eric Carr, Bruce Kulick, and Vinnie Vincent kept the band from dying. Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer helped carry the band the rest of the way.
From my limited understanding it seems Gene and Paul were the adults in the band.
Gene and Paul were the stern "Mother and Father". Ace and Peter were the bratty , drunk , druggy teenagers of the family. (Peter was more into Alcohol / ACE was more into drugs- but they both did everything. ) .
thanks for the video 👍
Big thanks!
Great old pics
I've heard Ace was kicked out of the band for his drinking and drugs. Peter was kicked out for the same.
Kar is the greatest. I have spoken.
Awesome! Big thanks!!
THO' Pete rightfully 🤬 Ace more $ Ace WAS more popular. Still..
shoulda $ both same.
It takes work to lose that much money in America. Americas economic system is built to protect wealth. Nothing is more expensive then being broke.
Gene and Paul knew what they had and Gene being the marketing genius. He is put his copyright on everything they were all feeding off the kiss label. It's their fault they could have had billions
If your a 4 piece band, profits should be split equally
Not if you leave then come back and not taking any risks with cost overheads ect
100 percent correct
Look , Gene and Paul talked about Ace and Peter like dogs and blamed them for everything while they were in the reunion tour , but they should’ve been kissing their ass , because if Ace and Peter hadn’t agreed to do the reunion , KISS would’ve been retired way before 2023. Gene would be doing budget movies and Paul would’ve been doing solo acoustic shows.
👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
Ace and Paul were the only essential players. Everyone else could be replaced.
Those guy threw it all away.
He couldn't even handle recording solo's in the studio. (Hence Vinnie Curano Ect.)..... The only way Ace "sabotaged" KISS was by breaking the contract for Creatures In The Night. THAT actually cost tyem money$$$.....As far as Ace Solo being BIGGER than KISS?...You mean what? The bands?...hahaha...Ace Frehley was playing bars and opening in the 1980's while KISS were still selling out arena's.

You don't understand. Not me!
ACE! ACE THOUGHT WITH HIS SOLO ALBUM HE WAS BIGGER THAN KISS. Peter thought he was a superstar too. Just these days Ace still bragged and asked the audience: ",Whose album was the best?" And he expected applause. Watch his live performance at the Rocktober Festival. His solo record is everything he has. Because he sold more. And he still thinks, he's bigger than KISS.
@@HappyMachorino-bd8no O.K...Sorry.

Peter and Ace were equal founding members. Co-owners with the same voting rights. It was their decision to sell their possession for cash.
@@HappyMachorino-bd8no they may have been equal founding members, but they were not equals in ‘96 - and for good reason. Business does not work that way.
They sold their rights because they had to - they were both broke.
The two points above are hard for people to accept. Peter has had zero career outside of KISS. Made a few albums, but never could really tour (he had to tour with Ace on the “Bad Boys” Tour.
Ace at least has toured over the years, it’s too bad he was undisciplined though. Made for some rough shows.

I didn't write "They were equals in '96". I wrote: they were equals as founding members!
This means from '73 till they sold their co-ownership.
But when Ace was broke, why didn't he then agree with Gene's offer for a Reunion in 1985?
According to Ace's ex-mate Gordon Gebert.
it is indeed a lot of money, but you should not forget the taxes you have to pay on what you're earned, plus the advances you have to pay based on what you earned durin' the year b4. that's why so many artists end up broke, one bad year and you're done.
Ace will be playing a small 100 seat lounge nearby in a month or so. Same songs from 45 years ago.
Money will never buy happiness.
gene and paul prove otherwise
but you can help others around you......THAT should make you happy...for them...
My mom use to say: " neither poverty"
Most people will never earn $1m in their entire life. I don't get how celebrities blow many $m's in such a short time. Vinnie Vincent has lived in a modest home a rural Tennnessee neighborhood, quite the contrast from other Kiss members.
Vinnie officially had to live modest, because he declared bankruptcy.
But how could he finance 14 law-suits?
I don't believe he's honest.
A ton of money,,, Not sure why Peter would even cry, He was broke, He made enough to live comfortably the rest of his life
One million dollars can be fifty thousand a year . If you spend from the million . You will be broke . With that much money you probably can't spend that much on drugs , however drugs fuel the LIFE STYLE . That will break you if you still have a life .
I am so sorry what happened to Ace 😔😔😭😭 and Peter 😔😭

Ace leaving wasn't cool but it didn't affect what Paul and Gene got. 15/4= 3.75million 7.5/2=3.75 million
But when Ace was leaving KISS, Peter Criss was no longer in the band. So there were only 3 original members in KISS and Eric Carr was a hired employee.
sorry Paul but no Ace Frehley and no Peter Criss? NO KISS!! and THAT IS FINAL!
