    I hope the breathing was added for dramatic effect for the trailer, in the release I hope the breathing sounds are gone. The heavy breathing makes me feel like I'm observing someone else. I want it to be me in the game, not me playing as someone else. It makes it more scary when you feel it is you.

      But this does seem to be another good non-combat horror title with very similar mechanics to Amnesia/Outlast.

      Best of both worlds: Include a dial to lower the volume or mute the breathing entirely. I don't mind my avatar breathing, and in fact, found it to add to the immersion when I first heard it in Outlast. I play games to step in the shoes of someone else, even pansies who're afraid of dying. Roleplay ftw.

      the breathing is similar to Penumbra, the longer you stare at the alien the more scared your character gets and that increases heartbeats and heavy breathing.

      Actually the breathing is a BIG problem in this game since makes you give your own position to the enemies.

      Yeah if your game is scary the heavy breathing effect is added by the player

    I hope it's not going to be another "you're alone in the world, you can't do shit again, just run and click this, click that to go through" game :-(
    Even details like seeing people or group of people in the distance, would make it way better than those "crawl-through" locations filled with nothing but jumpscares.

      ***** You entirely missed his point. He means that he hopes that the game has actual mechanics and interactivity and doesn't end up as just another "walking simulator" with jumpscares placed every 15 steps.
      Doing "stuff" doesn't mean shooting assault rifles.

      I totally agree. Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Outlast are probably the best examples of the non-combat horror genre, but I sorely miss games like Silent Hill 1-3 and the earlier Resident Evil titles, where you could fight but you rarely ever felt "powerful:" you were literally just surviving.

      Well then you're pretty much saying you don't want to play this game. So that's that.
      You're asking the developer to make a different game. Unless you mean more advanced interaction with the environment instead of combat etc. In which case, that would be a cool feature.
      This particular type of game will be an astounding horror experience in the Oculus Rift. Having to hide and sneak to survive, like you would in real life, increases the intensity and horror, and realism of the experience. To add to that this particular alien invasion and abduction idea is unique, so not just a rehash of ghosts and monsters. I'm happy just the way the game is, thank you.
      I will repeat what Jay Welch said: play something else instead.

    I love the heavy breathing and violins so much, it makes the game so much easier and more accessible when it tells me when should I be scared! Preordered the season pass!

    Looks absolutely amazing!
    Amazing idea. This is another game I'll be anticipating for the Oculus Rift. Should be incredible in VR!
    I will echo some others though, and say as awesome as the breathing sounds are for intensity when watching it, it won't be as good when playing it. Especially in the Oculus Rift, it'll feel like I'm in someone else's body. The only breathing sounds should be coming from me!
    Everything else looks absolutely amazing! Keep up the good work, looking forward to it!

    The 'Hum' sounds were a bit buggy, the crosshair was redundant and the breathing gets annoying too, very quickly (hope this gets removed in the final game or at least an option to mute it). So far these were the only 'issues' I found within this gameplay trailer even though I know it's just a concept now.
    Other than that, this game looks really great, visually. Also refreshing to see Greys instead of another survival horror featuring zombies or 'ghosts'.

    This game remind me so much of the movie War of The Worlds(I don't know why, maybe because the "spaceships" are similar), when i was a kid,that movie was basically nightmare fuel.. :c

    I'm not very keen to noticing plotholes in games or movies, and I can actually shrug them off for the most part - but the games that I have enjoyed the very most throughout my life, the ones that literally make me feel as the director/developer wants me to, have been the ones that pay attention to every single detail and explain every possible question you may have without only using dialogue.
    I'm thinking of The Last of Us specifically as I'm writing this (and maybe Inception). I loved Inception because, from the very start, the director assumes that the viewer owns and uses a brain - the movie allows you to make all your own assumptions or interpretations..meaning there is no actual right or wrong interpretation. When you are forced to connect the dots yourself, it becomes your adventure or your game. This actually solves the plothole problem too: Holes in the plot only exist when the viewer or player is told or shown too much, leaving no room for assumptions, thus creating neverending questions like...
    Why would these aliens decide to kill or enslave humans without provocation? Why would aliens that are capable of reason, destroying a city in seconds, traveling on an intergalactic scale care about even wasting their time killing or enslaving us? Enslaving makes even less sense than killing because we would be of zero use to a being that is able to destroy a city in 10 seconds.
    Michio Kaku explained his thoughts on alien life saying: If alien life can come to earth, that means that they're so advanced technologically that they'd have to be from a type 3 civilization and a type 2 civilization to even exist in the way we imagine. This means the aliens would be, "galactic traversers with knowledge of everything having to do with energy, resulting in them becoming a master race."
    If aliens were a type 3 civilization, the energy required by them to continue developing at an exponential rate would be so great that the only solution is the entire race working together in unity - in fact, this unity would need to come much sooner than type 3. We on earth, are a type 0 civilization... if you were wondering how we would compare. This implies that aliens are not good "bad guys" because they would be required to be so advanced technologically that they would have to be a peaceful civilization to even reach that status.
    That's a lot to rant but once you hear these theories, it makes any alien movie kind of annoying... or a lot annoying if you're thinking about Independance Day - you know, the movie where we defeated the aliens because we uploaded a mid-90's computer virus to the mothership's computer. Norton AntiVirus would have probably caught and quarantined it on our computers in 1996, but aliens never saw it coming despite having solved how to travel between solar systems.
    For a game to be immersive, it can't just have pretty new visuals. It has to assume that the person playing doesn't think indentically to the developer/writer/director. It has to plan on the player possibly asking, "Why?" a thousand times. In the trailer, the aliens destroy the city in five seconds, killing or abducting every single human with pin-point accuracy. The power's still on.

      But imagine if termites or ants or whatever plated their walls with gold? how long before we drove them to extinction simply because mining gold is hard? Resources are hard to find in this big black universe.

      Our mantle is made of Perovskite, a real life unobtainum, why leave? Plus, they can breathe, which is more than can be said for any other rock for trillions of miles. on top of that our planet emits an electromagnetic field, meaning our atmosphere doesn't degrade. There's oil, thorium, water (Which can be converted into Tritium and deuterium, both of which are essential for effective fusion), A clear atmosphere for solar power, pluis who knows what else we can't even understand. We kill not just for nutrients but to make our lives easier, why wouldn't they?

    Quite the concept:) and the engine gives Unity a run for its money. I like the heartbeat and the chromatic aberration. the aliens(?) look suitably spooky too.

    looks to be very good actually, ive I ever bought the oculus then id get this for sure
    BUT I do hope a lot of games will use wireless motion controllers to control the ingame hands because the point of VR is to make you feel your part of the game world...using a controller or mouse takes away that experiance

    Me estaba preguntando por la iluminación.. Y me imagino qe ha de estar en un estado muy temprano de alpha, pero es por como se ve en la calle.. la neblina y el la luz de ambiente es muy morada.

      Hablamos de un concepto muy temprano, antes incluso que un verdadero alpha. Todo lo visual es sumamente temprano, aunque estamos trabajando arduamente para llevar el concepto y nuestro estilo artístico a la mejor experiencia posible

    Too much forced "intensity." Horror games really need to stop making the character breath like an asthmatic any time any little surprise happens. One little intake of breath is enough, the rest should come from the player's response. When you assume something is terrifying and it is merely shocking, the player is going to be drawn out of the experience, not immersed. I'm sure the audio here is pretty placeholdery, but the direction needs to change a bit or it's going to come off as trying too hard. The horror part shouldn't be forced, it should be given space to happen for the player. Let them hyperventilate when they feel the need to instead of subjecting them to annoying sounds that don't fit the events in the game for the player. Especially given the context given in this video, it looks like you'll be playing as an extremely paranoid individual. A light terrified him? That's a little weird. Curiosity seems a more natural move, unless this opens from a kidnapping scene or something.
    Looks good, it just needs to tone down it's attempt to control the atmosphere and mood so much, something a lot of horror games need to learn.
