I think Antaeus is a 10/10. One of my all time favorite designer fragrances

I just truly wish that most all of you on here would’ve experienced what I did as a young guy in my 20s in the early 1980s regarding cologne. The 1980s repeats of today are nothing like what they were back then and it kind of saddens me that so many of you younger people won’t ever really know what those true originals were like.

I like your Methodology when it comes to Reviews. You Put a nice Dent in everything you Review and spend some time with the Scent.
Yeah you have to I find it funny when full reviews are made when someone opens a new bottle and sprays it for the first time, unless it’s a “first impression” video

The old batch with silver sprayer is totally different the animalic and oakmoss was still there.performance and projection were way better.
But nothing beats kouros💪🔥😎
One of my all time favs. Old Antaeus was a beast! Both in performance and animalics. I have a 90’s bottle and early 2000’s (silver sprayer). Both big projectors, and huge castoreum. The new bottles (black sprayer) not so much at all. I respray every 4-5 hours. They really toned it down with the modern formulations. Still excellent though! Just more polite 😊

I find it much more leathery than Oscar Pour Lui.
I find the deep vintage and also the modern version are very animalic. I like the 90s version most, it's less animalic so the top notes like citrus are more pronounced.
Yeah that’s interesting I get zero citrus with mine, it became funky after I sweat and my skin dried that’s where it was the most strange lol

Nice review. I love Antaeus. One of my wife's favorite scents on me. A dark, smooth, and classy scent. I get about 7-8 hours of performance.

I don't know why but whenever I wear Antaeus I seem to make middle aged ladies mad and argumentative (for random reasons). It happened three times. Once at a juice bar at the gym, Once at Supercuts, and once at Starbucks. That is one reason why I like Antaeus! Because normally nothing eventful ever happens to me at any of those types of places. At Supercuts the emplyee randmly started telling me how bad she didn't want to cut my hair and she just wanted to go home (so i walked out before i got the haircut). At Starbucks the employee started openly mocking my choice of sweetener (unsweetened almond milk) to another emplyee (she later apologized and gave me free coffee). And at the gym the employee started accusing me of not wanting to pay for my drink (before I even had a chance to take out my wallet!). I had the newer batch most likely because i bought decant last year.
🤣🤷🏻♂️ and that’s while wearing Antaeus lol
They often use those techniques to have you chasing them. Like she would expect you to beg her to cut your hair.
I always wear this with a black shirt ....it evokes a serious vibe and well put together gent.

A true classic. I always remember a conversation I had with a sales rep years ago. She mentioned this was her absolute favorite on a guy, drove her crazy if she caught a whiff. They didn’t carry it at the store, so it was legit. 👍🏻
My gf said it smelled nice but it def isn’t her favorite, it seems to change while I wear it so I’m always unsure about it lol
7:49 yea same reaction ! People say it’s the rival to Kouros but , Kouros is Animalic , and somehow fresh soapy . Antaeus is the complete opposite … dark , leathery and spicy … no animalic, no dirtiness …. Was so disappointed
A beauty of a chypre. Lavender, oakmoss, leather and labdanum bomb. Admittedly, it was a rather sharp opening. But after 15-20 min is when it begins to shine. I get a solid 10 hours with good projection for the first 2 or 3 hours. Aramis is another great chypre for cheap.
I own the vintage (silver cap) EDT and EDC: both killer versions in comparison to the - very weak - current version (black cap).

At moments I reminds me of Furyo which is one that was super strong insane performance but I ultimately didn’t like that one either and sold it. I like Antaeus more than Furyo for sure. Kouros is the best though
Antaeus is the GOAT that started my interest in fragrances back in the early 1980's, a genuine p***y magnet.....or at least it was back then 😊 Had numerous bottles over the years, however something I've noticed, for me it does not keep well, no matter how its kept ie in a dry, cool, and dark place, it always looses something in the blend over time, at least for my nose anyway...
Hmm thankfully mine has held up since I got it 4 years ago this month. That would suck if it went bad lol

I can sorta see the comparison but they definitely go different directions a few minutes after you apply it
I was thinking today about this classic. Maybe my next frag or Loewe esencia pour homme edt.
Esencia is great if you love green classic scents it’s way different than Antaeus
It’s interesting that there’s no lavender in the classic note lists you can find online whereas Chanel’s website describes Antaeus as “The striking alchemy of fresh, aromatic lavender and a rare and complex leather accord”.
As with most Chanel scents, the blend is so smoothed out that it can be difficult to pick out specific notes but I love lavender and love modern Antaeus so it would explain a lot.

I flip back and forth between Chanel Egoiste Platinum & Chanel Allure Homme as my faves from that house

Yeah kouros is much better it just stays in the masculine lane and lasts a lot longer
I've had this for six months and after finally getting used to the profile I've learned it is a great fragrance. It is unique, especially for the times we live in.

It definitely stands out and is unique I agree. I personally think a mustache looks goofy I like clean shaven or even 5 O’clock shadow. I did grow one for Halloween though I was super Mario lol
I was 12 when this came out and I loved this along with Kouros because it was Tom Selleck hairy chest big mustach Magnum TV show.....The 80's was when I got into my fragrance journey after my godfather bought me Givenchy gentlemen for my 12th birthday. By 14 I was on my collection and my eighties rotation was 1. Versace L'homme, 2. Armani Eau Pour homme (both house's debut frag's) 3. Antaeus. 4.Kourous 5. Givenchy Xerus. 6. Cool Water and 7. Dior Fahrenheit . 8. Drakkar Noir .What a great decade of fragrances to be a teenager
Great Video. I'm also a big fan of YSL Kouros and I was curious if You have ever smelled Kiehl's Musk Eau de Toilette Spray, and what your thoughts on it were?
Buongiorno Kelan. I got this last year (2023) thinking it would be a masculine, rugged beast, like Kouros. But all I get is a strong lipstick/ makeup bag vibe. Oscar De Laurentis Pour Lui is much more wearable, I think. Peace 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Yep the reputation fooled me and it definitely didn’t live up to it at all in my experience. It smells nice for the most part but it’s just not like I thought it would be
I have 1982 version and it's a bit Kouros-ish at times in the air. Of course it's a different scent, but it has loads of civet leather and castoreum funk
My 2020 bottle is just "meh". Other time i sprayed some 2014 tester bottle in the store and it was way better than the 2020. Way more dense and with loads of bees wax
My most complimented fragrance which is a shocking to people, but yes i agree the performance is just subtle
At least it lasts long on your person despite not being a room filler
Considering people are complaining about projection and longevity on the new formulations, if I can get a bottle of Pour Lui for $20 at this point I should be able to do the same for Antaeus, but of course any premium I'd be paying is simply for the name at this point.
Spend another 15$ and get a vintage Pour Lui like the one I have in this video it’s so good, during this video the pour Lui almost completely overtook the Antaeus at points
Great review! I like it, but don’t love it. Very well blended for sure, and a cool bottle. I actually don’t think it’s a bargain, either. You can get more bang for your buck with other fragrances.
100% it’s a good not a great, you can get better stuff for less like pour lui for example

Monsieur Musk is the best “man scent” that is mega beast and stays with you. I stand with you on Zino, I find it Messy or shall I say too many things going on that clash. It’s disastrous!
The older / vintage version's more funky and animalic.

Do you think you the vintage would have more of a "kick" to it? - you might like it a little better?/that OSCAR DE RENTA i had to open up to it (as i do all the old school scents) but i get the vibe of these old school scents,just started the ted lapdius, it threw me off at first (cat piss opening lol)then the dry down saves the day lol...
Lapidus is another one that I go back and forth on but ultimately it’s like a novelty fragrance lol
Personally, I don’t get into what’s “modern” in terms of frags. I wear what I like. Antaeus is fantastic but like all others, it depends on my mood and destination at the time of wearing. They also had a GREAT body balm that is hard to find. Didn’t need the cologne.
From what I see several years ago the body line products to match fragrances were so much more plentiful with things like a scented body balm that sounds great when you pair it with the same fragrance

Antaeus, in it's true vintage version, is beyond fantastic. Purchased a 10ML mini bottle and it was almost too good for words. Purchased a100ML bottle what was said to be a vintage version with the silver sprayer and it didn't smell like the same fragrance. I almost think perhaps the seller put something else in the bottle. In short, I pitched it. The problem is twofold. One, how do you know you're getting the right vintage batch and even if you do, it's going to set you back significant $. It's a risky proposition.
I love Antaeus but to me . Égoïste is the best of Chanel
Yeah I agree, I’m not crazy about Chanel mens scents, I got rid of a few of them. The OG Egoiste is an amazing scent especially in the cold
Antaeus unisex? wow this is the first time I hear something like that, to me this is masculine to the maximus and in my opinion better than Kouros because it is more elegant and classy so I do not agree but hey is your experience, I think a fair comparison with Kouros will be comparing the original formulas, Antaeus is going to be more refined for sure but the original formula was a beast today's formula is not even close however I still consider it a fragrance with very good performance if compared with modern fragrances with EDT or EDP concentration.

Yeah idk it just has moments where it smells like a dark women’s perfume to me other points where I like it so I’m on the fence. Definitely not a bad fragrance though
I have the late eighties early 90's version and it's quite beastly for sure. Don't know about the newer formulations. It's animalic but classy in a hetero p**sy magnet way. Kouros is more of a New York/San Fran male bathhouse frag. The only other frag that comes close to this would be older formulations of Trussardi Uomo.

ok bro but you know that this has been reformulated over the years... yea they took the castoreum out but it's still a powerful scent. more floral now, i have a bottle probably from the same time.

I hated opium for men it was so sweet, Antaeus definitely has its moments where it smells like a perfume instead of a men’s fragrance
