My 3rd great grandmother was a Fergusson. Her distant relative was Laird William Fergusson from the year 1520, born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. I love connecting with my Scottish roots, however it's hard feeling like I'm allowed to do so when living in the U.S.
Im the last Ferguson in my family, im 21 and unmarried but I never want to change it if i do. My great grandfather came from Scotland and met my Italian great grandmother here in America and the rest was history.
I am a Ferguson and a direct descendant of the Fergusons of Craigdarroch in southwest Scotland. My ancestral 9th great-grandfather, Robert Ferguson, is my ancestor who emigrated from Scotland to the Virginia Colony in 1663. In defending his Covenanter religious beliefs, he fought the Dragoons who came to southwest Scotland to persecute the Covenanters because they believed that Christ is the head of the Church, not the king. My 9th great-grandfather Robert was declared a fugitive, and with his family escaped the Dragoons by sailing to the New World. He eventually became of the father of nine children between two wives, continued to practice law as an attorney and started a tobacco plantation from 50 pounds of tobacco seeds given to him by the king. My 9th grreat-grandfather Robert was the first Ferguson in America,
Do you have any history of the Fergusons who immigrated to America? I'm pretty sure my sister has traced our distant Ferguson ancestors to the Carolinas here in America

In Canada - my ancestors came from Ireland though - would love to know when they left Scotland
