Where do we find the research on the Fordham University website?

Another Macgreggor here
Hello! Thanks for your comment.
Crazy how small the world is. Here from Los Angeles, California. As my hometown (Lennox, CA) was part of the former Rancho Sausal Redondo. Here's the info from the wiki "The Rancho was sold to Sir Robert Burnett (11th. Baronet, 1876-1894) who used the land for sheep and cattle raising. Having previously acquired Rancho Aguaje de la Centinela, Burnett combined the total area into the Centinela Ranch, thus reuniting the major area of the original land grant. Clear title to the land did not occur until 1873, when a U.S. District Court upheld Burnett's purchase against a suit filed by Ávila heir Tomas Avila Sanchez. In 1873, Robert Burnett leased the land to Daniel Freeman and returned to his native Scotland."
It is such a small world. Thanks for sharing this!
I wish the kilt was more common in the United States. I have always liked wearing the kilt as my ancestors were Scottish even going back to the Pictish era
Went down a rabbit hole on ancestry based on my grandma's maden name -Anderson went back to 1715 james Anderson born in north leith midlothian Scotland, trying to find some living relatives who know more about the family and if I'm clan related 😅
Thanks for sharing, and good luck in your search! Keep us posted :)
My story is very similar. I was adopted in 1965 and have only just recently done my DNA to discover my biological father was a McKinnon. I've traced my ancestry back to Dond. MacKinnon born in 1804 on the Isle of Skye. Died in New South Wales Australia. Australia is where I reside.
Thanks so much for sharing your story, must have been quite something to make this discovery.
15:30 I wouldn't say that English doesn't make sense here. It's just that _schrive_ (or how do you spell it in Scots) descended from Proto-Germanic _*skrīban_ ‘to write’ from Latin _scrībō_ ‘to write’ from Proto-Italic _*skreiβō_ ‘to carve’. And English uses a descendant from Proto-Germanic _*wrītaną_ ‘to carve’. Both are valid and logical. And by the way, since writing is a relatively new invention, many Indo-European languages use unrelated words for it.
Awesome 👍
Thanks!
Loved this - thank you. My Gt Grandfather x 3 was a Kerr. He was a Metalsmith and moved from Scotland to Ongar in Essex - no idea why! Cant wait to visit all these castles and stake my claim 😂
Thank you!
Good morning. Can you help me out on the name ( Henry Davidson ) & the Daughter Elizabeth Davidson whom fell to her Death in the Tulloch Castle. I know it’s a lot to ask. Any help would be appreciated. Joseph Davidson.
Hello Joseph, thanks for your message. What are you trying to find out regarding the names? Happy to help if we can!
I had no idea where I came from until today. The history is deep
Hello. I’m Joseph Davidson. From the USA. Glad I watched your video. Can you do a video on the Kilts we wear.
My McLaren ancestors came to America in the 1800s and settled in Louisiana. I hope to one day visit Scotland and our ancestral lands. It would be amazing to connect with a distant relative in the Balquhidder area
We hope you get the chance!
What size of the material you used?
We recommend using 8 yards of tartan fabric and for the weight we recommend 16 oz. Hope that helps! If you have any more questions please email us at info@scotlandshop.com. Thank you!
I am a Grierson and Blackley. I am in Canada. My Father is from Scotland.
Eight years of research on writing a four book volume on The Jones of Barbados and Wales, verified my 5th GGM is a Burnett. Family from Barbados incorporated the Burnett Coat of Arms into their monument in ENG, however, both Scottish and English Heralds say it is not legit. I say my 4th Gr uncle Robert Burnet Jones would know who his mother was, and they used maternal surnames as middle names in that period. Father Robert. Believe I just found parish record of her GGF John. The hunt continues... Plus I even created merch as Scottish Viking on spreadshirt. My other 7 branches were Icelandic farmers and vikings.
Wow, thank you so much for sharing!
Get those immigrants out of Scotland before they ruin the entire country!
McKinnon currently in Alberta Canada, born in Ontario and was told my family descended from Bonnie Prince Charlie or someone close to him, I don’t recall all the details, isle of skye I think was in there. I remember being shown our tartan and family crest and moto etc.. great video thank you
Thank you!
My father's mother was a McKinnon originating from the Isle of Skye. My grandmother's family tree on my mother's side goes back to McDuff. Scottish history is very interesting.
Yes, Scottish history is definitely interesting!
I can trace my ancestry back to both Clan Keith and Clan Gunn.
Thank you for sharing!
What may rhe difference between MacLaren and McLaren Be?
I've read that Maclaren holds status over McLaren but they are also one in the same. Do your own research though, for I am no scholar. ✌️
👍
Wilson here! Hello fellow family
I'm a MacRae living in North Carolina in the United States (although the spelling of my name is McRae). My grandad was really into genealogy and used to attend the highland festival at Grandfather mountain. I am becoming increasingly interested in learning more about this history!
Fantastic! We hope you enjoy learning about your ancestry.
My grandfather was a Sinclair and it is my maiden name. I love the name and it is now my granddaughters middle name.
Beautiful, thank you for sharing!
Just visited athol and all around ranoch more in Perthshire Scotland 🏴 the home of the Robertsons history is so strong proud to be a Robertson soar alba
That must have been amazing!
nice presentation but there are a few errors. first of all macneil is a scottish clan of norse origins. as is o'neil..of the clan neil. niall of the nine hostages is a mythical made up tale. the macneils entered ireland from scotland (probably with the scottish galowglass warrior clans osr the later scotttish redshanks. type in......macneil clan shocked as dna tests force the rewrite of history......then .....macneil and beyond-jeff macneil........type in......niall of the nine hostages : one of the most fruitful kings in history | ancient origins........the man never existed..
Thanks so much for letting us know!
Did they all go to the name Robertson? My maiden name was Duncan.
Just found out that I’m a Baird descendent! So cool to learn about my family
That's an exciting discovery! Thanks for sharing.
👍
My surname is Rose but l seem to be related to clan Ross.
To revise/replace "Fact 1" with a possible alternative. King Wiiliam the Lion of Scotland invaded the North of England 1173/74. The Anglo Norman chronicler, Jordan Fantosme of Winchester recorded (in old French) some of this invasion and gave an account of the Scots (Flemish and Border-men) siege of Brough Castle and how it was defended by six knights (chevaliers) against the Scots. He records that a further knight from a short distance just north of the Cumbrian castle joined the defence just as the other six knights surrendered from its burning wooden keep. This new knight continued the fight from the parapet of the burning keep by throwing the keep's javelins great distances down onto the Scots below, resorting to the stakes protecting the parapet when the javelins had all gone. In the process he repeatedly shouted in Old French the questionable translation sof which were " I am not vanquished." or "You will be vanquished" The History and Antiquities of Cumberland records that (prior to that invasion) a certain Sir William of Ousby (just up the Eden Valley from Brough) owned around half of Ousby hamlet with the second half split among others. After the war, a Sir William Armstrong emerged as the half owner of Ousby. Coincidence, I think not. Others say that the first mention of the Armstrong name was in Cumberland in the 12th century. Three coincidences: the possibility that William d'Ousby and William Armstrong are one and the same; he display of strength in the arm; and the shouting of the words I or you and vanquished which has similarity to the latin Invictus Maneo. That would make the Armstrongs initially of Norman descent. Both documents exist and are available from the internet. Maybe the Fairbairn story has more credibility - we'll never really know.
Thanks so much for sharing, that's really interesting! Agreed that we will never really know.
The Yemeni Mawaz is much better 🤦🏽♂️
Love it
Thanks! Pleased to hear it.
I’m part of it😁
Great to hear!
My late mothers maiden name was Ross. My late uncle Albert Ross, wore the Ross tartan to his daughters wedding.

Looking up my history! An honour to see such a proud heritage going on 😊
I have a Great Grandmother McFarlane 💞 her daughter Loverna New Larson is my Grandmother
I freaking love the highland games, specially when they throw the tree logs and the cannonballs
Proud member of Clan Ross from my mother, but I have my dad's last name!
w u guys for making the story and stuff about my family
Shakespeare had nothing nice to say of us.
I’m a Young. My dad born in Fife. My grandfather Alexander Young was a world class drummer & moved his family to Canada when my dad was a child to work in BC. The name Alexander Young is still with us today in my dad, and the variation of it with myself as Alexandra Young. Thank you for this video
Thank you for sharing! Glad you liked the video. So great the family name has continued through the generations.
I've heard Chattan is sometimes pronounced with a silent 'C', as in 'Hattan' as opposed to how it is spelled with a pronounced 'C' as in 'Chattan'. Is either correct?
We believe both are in use. We tend to say Chattan with the C.
i go back to sinclair, to stewart to grant and on. direct line to rollo. i'm from canada.
my last sinclair namesake was lady eleanor sinclair. i also go back to robert the bruce and the frasers and a few others. with so many clans that i touch, i always wonder which tartan would be right? but it might look silly on a french native american. my name is pratte and my 7 times great grandfather, jean duprat was beheaded at the beginning of the french revolution. my mom's side goes back to rollo and charlemagne.
We don't think tartan would look silly on anyone. We have tartans that can be worn by anyone, like the 1783 collection, that celebrates Scotland, its landscape and folklore. Is there a clan or tartan you feel very connected to? That might be the one to wear. Have you had a look on our website yet? www.scotlandshop.com/tartan-finder
