He would offer 10 cents. The coin is worth about a $1.20 cents give or take a few cents because of its silver content.

He must have known that it was fake when NGC couldn't authenticate it. Usually I pull for the customer in these episodes and I'm rarely glad when it looked like Rick smacked the $400K right off of that guy's face.

If a reputable grading company says the date is not legible I doubt you can tell from just watching a video or read it in person for that matter. It looks like an 8 or a 4 to me,I cannot tell.

Always feels bad when someone wants to pay off their property but it turns out it’s nothing. The scratching of the coin like that even though fake its just WOW lol.
Most important rules as a collector or selling a coin: Never clean a coin and never touch a coin without wearing gloves except in the case of ancient coins. Also, never put a coin in plastic with PVC as it can give the coin green slime.

there is a very mild acid product that brings out hard to read lettering and dates for silver coins and does not hurt value if used properly.
As a kid collecting coins I had a buffalo nickle with an uncertain date. I put a commercial product on it, an acid probably, that brought the date out. Then I learned it devalues the coin. The date on that coin went from 1897 to 1898 to vague 1894.

I love people’s asking price for things like this. They find something that’s worth a lot of money if it’s in good condition. But they bring in something like this that’s on the edge of being worthless and ask for the same amount of money. Then they get mad that they’re offering next to nothing.

57 seconds in check the date I can see 189 and very faintly you can see the bottom part and top out line of a 4
Looks like 1898, with a scratch across the worn 8 that people are mistaking for a 4. If it hadn't been scrubbed, that could have been worth $2.50. With how long the '94-S has been known about, there's no way a real one would have stayed in circulation long enough to wear down that much.
I sense a domestic violence case when he gets back home.....

There is a way to bring the date up. You do vin etching process like the auto theft detectives do with vin numbers that have be grounded off by using muratic acid and batteries.

0:50 its not true for small coin like cent and dimes. They are small so one struck was way enought to achieve a full strike.

Looks like 1899 to me? And they could definitely 'read' the date by sending it off for analysis, imaging technology would pick that up no problem it's not that far gone.
