Faith in God.... filled to the top with fear that it's all just a bunch of matter. Black sky, gold stars. If he's not here, the stars don't even matter. If vision is the only validation then most of his life isn't real!
I've always thought of this song as a love song, but i now see it has a deeper meaning. it's about life, and where we stand and what's here and what's not here, religion, god, doubt, fear
No it's about God. He's saying if God isn't real then nothing else matters. And if God isn't here he doesn't wanna be here either. Sam said so in an interview
Every1luvzME I saw the interview. I honestly think the song is way more complete without having restricting it to one line of semantics, but while were at it, why would a gay man believe in God, and what's with the evolution references? Those are two things that really puzzle me. He may have said it's a bout God for his fans, so he wouldn't lose more than half his listeners.
I think the references to evolution are the argument for god not being real because if we evolved from apes then God couldn't have created us and so the rest of the bible is false meaning God isn't real, hence "if you're not even here".
Billy Boreham The fact evolution is true negates Genesis, that says all animals and living beings were created, yeah. Genesis got a lot of things wrong, including the time animals needed to evolve(a day?!), the order in which the animals formed(birds first evolved in the Jurassic period and land animals in the Carboniferous period, some 100 million years before, while the Bible puts birds and water creatures in the 4th day and land animals in the 5th - WROOOONG!). Even if the days of creation weren't literal days(which is also a position you cannot defend), the order of the events would still be patently wrong. What Sam said, if fish grew legs and got out the ocean, that's what happened, basically. All life came from the sea, to the land, then partly back into the sea, then onto the sky. All living creatures evolved from sea animals, and, if you want to be more subtle about it, because there was a huge extinction in the Permian period, most of the living beings today descend from the 4% animals that survived that extinction
This is such a great song. How it isn't a bigger hit blows the mind. I guess we'll call it an underground classic because years later it hasn't aged a bit.

Alexus aka Lexington loved for me to sing this song. At first, they marked me then they loved it because it was the relief of freedom and they began to understand the true meaning of this song.

He’s on twitter but I think something happened as to why he’s not releasing songs
He just released his new single
@George Stobbart two T's and two B's That was significantly less funny than I suspect you _think_ it was.
@George Stobbart two T's and two B's donald trump
Omg I used to love this song. I completely forgot about it for yeeeeears and just listening to it now after such a long time. Sounds just as great today as it did back then.
When this song comes on in FIFA 23, I pause for a moment and listen - Palace away in the cup can wait. That's about the biggest compliment I can give - what a banger
This song is addicting. Can't believe I've never heard of it until now.
It's Music Gold
@Italian Pills Actually I'm not, lol. I'm 57.
Psicologia Politica I remember most music from elementary/ middle but ion remember this
If Neyo, or Usher had covered this it would have been Gold. What a top tune!
I first listened to this in 2008
Where did Sam go! Such a spectacular song and I still love it
2020: yep, still gives me chills
This song is THE masterpiece. Such deeply meaningful lyrics and so sonically addicting.
Faith in God.... filled to the top with fear that it's all just a bunch of matter. Black sky, gold stars. If he's not here, the stars don't even matter. If vision is the only validation then most of his life isn't real!
Feels like yesterday this was released.
Some songs don’t age. It belongs to that category. Vocals, music, chorus everything is perfect for all generations❤.
Installed a new light fixture and it’s black and gold and I couldn’t help but think of this song, listening in 2024!
Wow just remembered this tune and decided to listen again after so so many years and its still a fucking banger
All living creatures evolved from sea animals, and, if you want to be more subtle about it, because there was a huge extinction in the Permian period, most of the living beings today descend from the 4% animals that survived that extinction
thanks for clearing that up
Great song and voice!
This is such a great song. How it isn't a bigger hit blows the mind. I guess we'll call it an underground classic because years later it hasn't aged a bit.
Just like a breath of fresh air. His first album and his art are amazing, just check out. Sam Sparro is a true gem.
This popped into my head 3 hours ago and I’ve finally found it! Couldn’t find it for ages because I was searching Jack Sparrow - Black and Yellow 🤦♂️
🤣🤣🤣 love this...sort of thing I would do
😅😅😅😅

Black and yellow was by wiz khalifa, i did the same mistake.... Shittt.
Same sex marriage has been legal here in the US for 11 years now and America is still standing. We got married in April of 2015. We just celebrated 33 years together. Dan you have made my life worth living. I was a lost soul till you walked into my life and found me. Not a day goes by that I don't thank GOD for you!
12 years on almost and I’m still rocking this tune.. I watched you live in 07 and it was an amazing performance you gave.. the energy was electric that night at the o2 wireless weekender in Manchester northern quarter at the day & night bar.. I’ll never forget that night or meeting you accidentally twice! Still amazing Sam! 😀
love you dad, the stars don’t even matter without you
This song just slaps so hard. A friend of mine played it on a party after not listening for it for over 5 years and it had hit so hard. Damn I love this song
Ikr
slaps harder than Will Smith.
This Sam Sparrow song (sung by him) can be styled in SO many ways....each one is magic and art.
quite possibly has the greatest lyrics ever written for a love song
Dutch guy here, just voted for the Top2000 (Radio 2) and put this on my list, cause it's one hell of a number and an alltime classic if you ask me.
I agree, it never ever ever gets old.
Lekker gap
100% catchy, and 0% annoying. That's how you do pop music correctly, ladies and gents.
👏 totally agree
I remember hearing this for the first time and thinking this was Seal ironically. Great tune and artist. This is one of those ones that pops into your head at random and you have to give it a listen. ❤
Haven't heard this song in over 8 years. Wow the nostalgia
I never knew about this song until I received this music for my jazz routine and now I can't get enough of it. It's lyrics are so powerful and the meaning behind it is just so beautiful I seriously love it so much!
Who is here from FIFA '09?
Timeless track!
Sameeeee
You know the vaarbs!
Like this isn’t even a joke. It’s sooo timeless. I can see this being released in the 80s and even 12 years later! And the themes are still relevant and always will be! seeing how people will always have doubts about their faith!
When Fifa was fun. I still play it on ps3.
Mate i have so many good memories from this song playing fifa with my dad when i was little
It's 12:58 am March 8, 2023 I'm laying in bed and this song comes to mind after 13 years. I sang this song to a group of friends that kept asking me to sing it back in the day. Oh man, this song brings back memories of the good old times when life was just starting to transition for me mentally, socially, and financially into the woman I am today. Alexus aka Lexington loved for me to sing this song. At first, they marked me then they loved it because it was the relief of freedom and they began to understand the true meaning of this song.
I remembered this song, i heard it during my childhood and thought it was catchy. I just explored the lyrics.. this is amazing, amazing songwriting to me. Extremely deep.
I once had a choreographer who would use this song every time we warmed up. I must have heard it a thousand times by now, until just recently, after years of work with us, we did a production of Singin' In The Rain and she retired. always going to remember this song.
Damn, this song still slaps. Didn’t know everyone knew about it 😂😂
This song still slaps. Well put, absolutely true!!
👍💞😊😍🤩🌞⏮️⏭️

This song brings back such fond memories. I was listening to it in a car with my brother, sister in law and nephew. My nephew was 18 months old and clapping along. The next year we sadly lost my brother. Whenever I hear it I think of that day ❤️
