    I've not heard a mainstream music artist in the last two decades that I like. Virtually given up on the industry as its a joke nowadays.

      @@on_another_level5661 Not every song that charts is garbage. It's just that they usually get pushed out by garbage.

    Sad this video has gotten only nearly 6,000 views while "Music Insiders: Real Talk on the Music Industry and Illuminati has over 20,000. This was a great use of one hour of my day.

    IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER YOUR SONG TO COPYRIGHT IT, YOUR SONG DOES STILL BELONG TO YOU AND IS TECHNICALLY COPYRIGHTED, but only if you can prove it somehow with a date.
    If you don't register it officially, it still IS copyrighted as a result of you creating it, BUT when you sue whoever infringed on your copyright your legal fees will not be paid for in advance.... if you did officially copyright it, then your legal fees are covered.
    (Who the hell am I anyway? I'm just a guy who took a Music Copyright class in college and got an A ;)

    Before any musician signs any kind of deal, they should watch the Shirley Manson interview on record deals and how new artists get severely butt f**ked by record companies. It surprises me that any of them ever make any real money.

  • @hueykhalidX
    @hueykhalidX 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Damn. So basically major record labels rape the artist. This is making me want nothing to do with major record labels. It looks like going "gold" or "platinum" is going to get you nothing.

    • @mrjphead-manouvre9069
      @mrjphead-manouvre9069 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      the thing is they do rip off the artist but if you want to sell loads of albums that requires a lot of producer/marketing and distribution work. if you want to be a rockstar you have to enter the industry .
      I personally think we should leave the age of millionaire rockstars and performance artists behind, end intellectual copyright law so that people can share music for free and let the performance make money.

    If you write a song, & do a poor mans copy write, you have to get 3 witness take it to a Notary, with said witnesses...everyone signs it in front of the Notary they stamp it, then mail it to yourself. Thats the poor mans copy write process. A Notaries stamp will hold up in court.

    Just like most people on this vid say--a band that does not pick up real buzz is essentially a 'write off' for the record label so, no real skin off their nose if your band doesn't make it.
    Of course, they have to have some artists on their label making money-as they wouldn't be able to keep "losing money" but they probably only have to have a handful of popular bands and the rest, well, are just write offs and eventually just end up owing the record company-in the end (if they are unlucky), or just call it even (with a write off)-and owe nothing but also get nothing in the end-except the experience of making albums and maybe touring for a while which-of course, is valuable to some degree. It is important to go in with your eyes open, though so you are not disappointed.
    Speaking of which, sometimes a band can make some money just touring (ie the $ is made by ticket sales and some merchandise) but to make $ from the actually label is a whole other thing.
    My ex was signed to Epitath Records (who had some big names) so they were the little fish in the pond and got to tour Europe and make some records and even videos but only the singer (who wrote the songs) got a some royalties (and really not many), which is another warning--if you are not the initial "song writer" but you are contributing a lot to the songs and they pretty much sound very different after everyone has put their 2 cents in, you should really negotiate with the person who "wrote the song" about how much you contributed.
    My ex never got much in royalties (from the record industry)--like maybe 900 dollars in the many years he was in the band. The singer, however, got more because he "wrote" all the songs but I witnessed myself that the songs were quite different from when they started to when they ended and it's almost not fair to the other band members who contribute ideas to the songs. I can understand if the other musicians were pretty much told how to play but if they contribute uniqueness to the song, the song writing should really be a concerted effort.

    I don't make deal with a cop music industry in jamaica! The Jamaica music industry is set up by cops. Yet they appear to the public as sole private sectors. But are moonlighting!!! If i weren't smart, i would have been trapped in their cop-ulatation. Whatever that means. Lol! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I created my own music production online, and it rivals the Jamaican police music industry in jamaica so rivaly! They are trying to ruin it's reputation. Remove your mask!!!
