The QB can "spike" the ball to stop the clock when they're out of timeouts. It's essentially a very quick incomplete pass

And to add to that, "taking the knee" runs the clock out.

In the last clip, Brady was in his first year as a starter after Drew Bledsoe, a former 1st pick, got hurt. Brady then led the pats to the super bowl against a team with the nickname "The greatest show on turf". The pats were massive underdogs, and the 6th round QB got it done for the pats. Thst's greatness right there

He was drafted in 2000, pick number 199. Tom Brady is famously the biggest draft steal in American sports history. He didn't play at all his first season. 2001 was his first season playing after the starter Drew Bledsoe got injured I think in week 2, Brady lead them all the way to the Superbowl that year. You're right that this video wasn't great to show off Brady's skills. There's a good video on youtube with all of his longest touchdowns, I would watch that. Joseph Vincent also has some of the best Brady documentaries on youtube.

The thing with Brady is, he doesn’t have a highlight with the most flashy throws, he’s just very good at making throws when his team needs him. But for context on what he’s achieved. He has the most yards, TDs, 4th quarter comebacks. He has the most Super Bowl wins by QB with 7, the next closest is 4. He has the most appearances by a QB in 10, next closest is 5. He has more super bowls than any single team in the NFL.

at around 7:00 Brady spiked the ball into the ground, he did not take a knee.
Spiking a ball: this is usually done with very little time on the clock and no time outs. The QB takes the snap and then throws it directly into the ground. Result: loss of down, but clock stopped
Taking a knee: this is usually done to run the clock down to zero at the end of a game (or a half) with time still remaining. Taking the knee does not stop the clock. If the opposing team has time outs, they can use them and the offense can then take another knee or, depending on the down situation, run another play or punt the ball to the opposition.
2 different actions with 2 different results.
Some games are won or lost based upon how well the QB and coaching staff manage the clock. The Cowboys famously lost a game due to Dak's misunderstanding of the game situation. I think this happened last year, or the year before against the 49ers. He also mishandled the clock this year against the same team, but I think the previous year was more obviously bad time management/awareness.

    @jerrypickins ปีที่แล้ว +4

The thing you need to know about Brady is he's not flashy, but he's clutch and efficient. Some people who watch some of his highlights will be like, "How is he the GOAT? He didn't scramble, sidearm, no-look pass, 50 yards down field." That can only get you so far. Brady doesn't have the athleticism, the natural talent, or the best Wide Receivers for most of his career. He was the 199th, 6th round pick afterall. Because he doesn't have all of those advantages, he had to worked his ass off to not only win, but to win for 20+ years in the NFL.

No Need to check Randy Moss's #81 Gloves. It's ALL hands.Darrell Revis#24 with the New York Jets and who also later in his career played with the Patriots was the Number 1 coverage cornerback in the NFL at that time, and Moss just ran by him for that one handed catch.Brian Urlacher #54 of the Chicago Bears was not just the the top linebacker, but a future Hall Of Fame Middle Linebacker when Brady put that move on him.All NFL QB's has to throw the ball quickly at times, because the small area to place the ball too the wide receivers is RARELY a huge opening because of the good players on defense.A long deep pass is different, but the Blitz- meaning guys coming free without being blocked by the offense,or pass rush is coming fast."The Shotgun"(QB deep behind the line) is design too give the QB more time to see,and pass the ball too the receivers, short, medium,or deep.🇺🇲🏈

2001 was his first season as a starter, that final clip was that years superbowl. The Rams were called the greatest show on turf that year and were HEAVY favorites to win the superbowl. His first season was in 2000, l think he was in for 3 plays that year. Except for 2002 when they went 9-7, and 2008 when he missed the entire season due to injury, he lead his teams to the playoffs every single year. He played in 10 superbowls, winning 6 with the Patriots and 1 with the Bucanneers. He lost 2 to the Giants, and 1 to the Eagles. He played 3 complete regular seasons in the playoffs. He has won more superbowls than not just any player, but more than any franchise. In my opinion,Peyton doesn't even come close, Brady is the undisputed G.O.A.T.

  • @psymar
    @psymar ปีที่แล้ว +2

At 7:00 they didn't take a knee, that'd keep the clock running. Instead thet spiked the ball, which counts as an incomplete pass.
The receivers do have a slightly tacky substance on their gloves, but that's true for the others.
Also that 28-3 game was 1) the super bowl and 2) not "back in the day" but the 2019 season, at age 42. He could still move when he had to though!
The big argument between Brady and Peyton Manning was that Brady won more super bowls but Manning put up gaudier numbers. I feel like that got pretty settled after Brady teamed up with Randy Moss to set all sorts of passing TD records in 2007.
2001-02 was his rookie season. He won three super bowls in four years out of the gate.
The Rams are still in the league but they moved to Los Angeles.

The thing about Tom Brady and honestly, any recent quarterbacks is that they really play a different game than was played in the 70's, 80's and even 90's. The NFL knows that offense sells tickets and have been changing rules over the last 40 years.
1978 - Defensive backs can no longer contact the receiver after 5 yards.
1979 - QBs who are "in the grasp" will result in the refs blowing the play dead to keep QBs from being injured.
1993 - QBs can now throw the ball away if they are outside of the pocket.
1995 - Roughing the passer becomes stricter to help protect the QB,
1995 - QBs can now wear a one way radio to hear play calls.
1995 - WRs that are forced out of bounds can now come back in to catch the ball
1996 - 5 yard contact on receives gets more restrictive for DBs
1996 - Some hits to head or helmet to helmet is now a foul.
2002 - No helmet to helmet or hits to head on QB after change of possession. (Yes, defenders looked to hit the QB after a fumble or interception)
2006 - No low hits or tackles on QBs.
2007 - Cut blocks on receivers is now a 15 yard penalty vs a 5 yard penalty.
    2009 - Defenseless receiver rule
2009 - Low hits on QB even more restricted.
It has become even more restrictive in the last 12 years.
What all this means is that QBs that play now are protected and defenses are far more limited in how they can cover receivers. Running used to be far more important to the game.
Tom Brady is clearly the best QB to play the current game. I just don't think he would have been able to play 22 years or have the numbers he does today if he had started in the 80s or 90s. QBs like Joe Montana , Dan Marino, John Elway, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Roger Staubach and Fran Tarkenton might have better numbers than Brady if they played the current game.

They played in a couple of different stadiums around the Los Angeles area until 1994, then moved to St. Louis in 1995. They moved back to Los Angeles in 2016.

Tom Brady was selected out of the University of Michigan as the 7th quarterback selected in the 2000, 199th overall, by the New England Patriots. He started as 4th on the Patriots' quarterback depth chart, but by the end of the 2000 season and going into 2001, he ascended to become the backup to recently re-signed star quarterback Drew Bledsoe. In week 2 of 2001 against the Jets, Drew Bledsoe ran around the corner toward the sideline and got hit so hard by Jets linebacker Mo Lewis, that he ruptured a blood vessel in his chest. He even went back in the game (the eagle eye was not trained on player health nearly as much as it is now) for a bit before Brady came in for him. They still ended up losing, but Tom Brady was named starter going into the following week against Peyton Manning and the Colts. By around midseason, he kept the starting job with is play even when Drew Bledsoe was healthy enough to return, finishing 11-3 as a starter in the regular season. His first Super Bowl championship came at the end of that season, as you saw, doing exactly what got him the attention from head coach Bill Belichick and the coaching staff in the first place: calm under pressure, patience and accuracy, and the ability to take whatever the defense gave him and not playing hero ball. The rest is history.
Over time, Brady's legacy has become about winning in a variety of different ways, whether on early Patriots teams that utilized a tough defense and running game, or an open passing game with terrific receivers, or a meticulous offense centered around tight end Rob Gronkowski, or even going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and finding a new way there. In his 23 seasons, 21 of them as the full-time starting quarterback, Tom Brady has been to 10 Super Bowls, winning 7 of them (more than anyone else in NFL history). He has won his division in all but two of those seasons (2002 and 2020), having missed the playoffs only in 2002. He has been bounced from the first round of the playoffs only four times (2009, 2010, 2019, 2022). His cumulative numbers are ridiculous at this point and there are no comparisons for what he's done in the playoffs.
And he's probably going to another team in Free Agency in a couple months for another year or two.

Statistics-wise, Drew Brees might be considered the greatest. But he only won one Super Bowl, and Brady outlasted him breaking his records by playing longer. And of course winning 7 Super Bowls, 3 more than any other quarterback.

Am I wrong... on the play where tom brady feels the blitz pressure and he throws the ball away, is that not intentional grounding? He didnt get outside the tackles or hashes before throwing it to an area where no one was less than 15 yds from the ball... Call this one back. Rams get the W.

Hey Joe, I know you are looking for great historical college games to watch. Here is one of the best, a lot of mistakes on both teams. Michigan and Notre Dame are the two college teams with best winning records in college football. Michigan has the most wins, whole Notre Dame has the best winning percentage. The games between these two teams goes back to the 1880s. This was the epic game from 2011. th-cam.com/video/bNFr77dhkbw/w-d-xo.html. If you get a chance review this one you will enjoy the last quarter of the games especially.
