  • Quick review of the Makita ER 2600 L grass strimmer / trimmer.
    its 25.7 cc 2 stroke single cylinder. has a bump feed line mech, easy to start, lightweight and surprisingly quiet.
    cold start took 4 pulls
    hot start took 1 pull every time
    vibration is minimal
    cost at time of purchase was £105 inc VAT
    easy to assemble, taking just a few minuets and as I state, it took longer to flatten the packaging than assemble the trimmer.
    two stroke mix ratio is 50/1. it doesn't come with a pre mix bottle, you are going to have to buy this separately
    overall im really please with this handy strimmer

    I have the same model and it works perfect for years. The only issue I had was the vibrations in my arms. Since I changed the head by another Makita model found on Amazon. It's way way better. I recommend the swap as it's not so expensive.
    Makita B-03006 Ultra Auto head is refrence of new head.
    Greetings from Belgium.

    I use this strimmer purely for edging, and along places my lawn mower cannot get at. Bent shaft is very effective for edges, if you hold it in a different position it connects with edges perfectly. Good video btw

    Brilliant video mate. I've currently got a qualcast its about 12 years old and starting to show signs of it dying. I've serviced every year until this year where I'm think of buying this one.

    Primer bulb- If anyone is interested, its not a "primer" as this infers injecting fuel into the cylinder, very rare on these things. No, it simply makes a vacuum in the carb which then sucks fuel up and fills the carb so when you pull the cord, it will be ready to inject the fuel/oil mix into the cylinder. Simply to save the pull cord wear and tear from 6 to 12 pulls to usually get a empty carb filled and injecting into the throat. On my aircraft i do have a "Primer" which squirts fuel in and this acts as a choke. Also manual says 50/1 fuel to oil BUT usually they are talking about "branded" special concentrated Echo or stihl 2 stoke oils so in this case? I have a off the shelf stuff and just use around 30/1 just to be safe. not too lean , maybe way too rich, but i seen videos of 50/1 and the bearings and dry and very thin running however the harder engines can take this today i guess... I still use 25/1 on my older machines and never fouled a plug or choked the engine from "flake offs" which they claim can damage the engine. So did they have this trouble in the old days when they used 8/1??

    If you pull the throttle leaver to full and push start leaver fully forward will no lock trigger in start position once started pull throttle leaver to release from start mode to run mode makes starting easier

      I was really pleased that mine fired straight up, no hesitation once primed and pulled through a few times. I don't store fuel in it over winter as I think the methanol and oil cause problems.

    We’ve just bought this trimmer brand new. It doesn’t start up. I get it to the point where I’m putting my finger on the throttle, and then it cuts out after a second or two.
    Any suggestions ?

    • @richardjweeks
      @richardjweeks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you start it with choke on, are you letting it warm up for a minute before operating the throttle? Also make sure the oil / petrol ratio is correct. If problems persist, return it to where you bought it and ask them to check it over. Regards Richard

    • @richardjweeks
      @richardjweeks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will try. Fill with petrol with 50:1 pre mix with two stroke oil. Underneath the carburettor there is a clear rubber nipple, pump it with your finger about 5 or 6 times, this primes the carburettor with fuel. There is a choke leaver which if memory serves, is red, push this to the closed position. Check the kill switch is pushed forward ( its by the soft hand grip with the trigger throttle) now place the strimmer on the ground and pull the starter cord repetidly untill the engine starts. Once started move the choke to open. Wait a minute before using so the engine has time to warm up. I hope this is what you needed.

    I bought one of these, my review, the trimmer head destroyed itself within 5 minutes, can get a better one but has to be modified because of the silly thread choice. After a couple of months it will refuse to run, it will start but not run, new petrol filter, plug and a carb rebuild and clean, nothing, also the engine head has come away from the shaft in a weird way. Total crap, no one will fix one or even try to as they know how bad they are. Utter rubbish.
