- Ping tests Ken Roczen's factory bike after the SMX Finals at the LA Coliseum and gives his thoughts on why this bike is competitive, despite the base model being largely unchanged since 2018.
Ping is my favorite bike tester. I always enjoy his take on bikes. This Suzuki has gotten a ton of bad comments over the years but this kind of shows us that it truly is a great platform.
After all the old Suzuki is GOOD enough to beat all the other brands.

Never count Suzuki out. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a kick lever. They should ALL have them!
Fact here Ping. I was at a Suzuki Convention in Orlando, FL. RC was there and I asked the guys if I could pick his bike up off the stand. To my amazement, they smiled and said sure. That 450 felt like a 125 2 stroke...I was totally amazed.
what is truly amazing is how stock that bike really is. Stock linkage, stock triples ( lower from a 250) etc

Ping, did they talk about specifics about the motor? Is the ECU mostly responsible for the linear pull or a combination of parts? Its just stunning that this is considered the "slow 450" yet most pros aren't pushing for more HPs, but the delivery.
Much of that power character is ecu tuning
I would guess yes jamie's e c u tuning and motor work. But the suzuki is already known also for real tractable power curve. I don't own one myself but a friend does and it is very, I don't want to say not fast,its very fast, but it is very manageable.
I went to an RM Army event at Ironman Raceway this year, and Kens mechanic was tearing down his bike and cleaning in for the SMX coming up, Kens bike has a lot of stock parts on it and so does the other 450 riders for Twisted Tea, I asked him about power of the bike, he said they pulled 4 hp out of the bike I would assume that’s after tuning he said Kenny said it was too fast, I have a 23 RMZ 250 with worked suspension I came off an 08 YZ125, The RMZ is an awesome chassis it’s just what Ping said, I don’t understand why it gets such bad reviews if in mostly stock form it’s extremely competitive
If you rode the bike after Scrub Daddy then that is why they asked you about how the clutch felt 🤭

I highly doubt it. I am hoping to see Dylan Ferrandis as his teammate this coming season. I think he would love this bike.

Competitive, but I watched jet's honda pull away from kenny out of the second corner and that uphill like he had 10 more horsepower.
No doubt it’s competitive but your your constantly searching for tenths one of the new lighter, narrower bikes would make Ken even slightly better. Not to mention how much of a huge disadvantage a kickstarter is especially when it’s heavier than electric start bikes.
Not that impressed this guy has the same amount of championships as me
