Wow apart from a handful of fret buzzes this is flawless and possibly the most technically difficult program you are likely to hear, just unbelievable, what a musician!!

I was lucky enough to see this amazing player twice in concert ,right up at the front just few paces away ,it was mesmerizing, he still my all time favourite , thanks for video... I wonder does he play much if at all these days!!??...He doesnt get enough credit for his gigantic repertoire either, he has played it all , has any other player come near the amount of pieces he has played !

Last time I heard him was a couple of years ago at the globe in London, he was still going strong.

Somewhere I read that Alirio Díaz was the substitute teacher when Segovia had to travel and giving concerts. Then Alirio became also a teacher of John Williams. That's my hipothesis of Williams interest in venezuelan music.

Yes. That was in Siena, Chigiana School.

Diaz was a fellow student in Sienna, him and Williams became friends with Diaz introducing him to the music of Venezuela. Although not an official teacher Williams said he learnt a lot from Diaz.

He changes the Preatorius "Ballet" to strumming and played the rare 4th one he did not record. Good stuff: is an understatement!

Its amazing he can attack the guitar so hard and yet not a buzz. More recently I've come to realise how beautifully he can play.

Besides Segovia, Williams is my favorite guitar player, then Bream and Pepe Romero

Incidentally, "Alma llanera" is not from an "operetta" but from a "zarzuela". No need to minimize or dilute the Spanish influence on the Hispanic identities. At the time, maestro Williams was working hard to rescue Spanish American (he would say Latin American) music from oblivion (Segovia had tragically contributed to this outrage with his ruthless and chauvinistic rejection of the gifted Agustin Barrios Mangore) in the classical guitar tradition.

You’re beating Spotify featuring this recording @selfTaughtGirl. Amazing performance, never mind the coughs, I’m sure there is a way to edit the recording to remove those traces. Many thanks.
