Carl First, I just wanted to let you know that I think it's cool you're running this contest. This is the kind of thing I feel brings the community together, to have some fun and share wonderful creations. Thank you for doing this! I won't be entering myself, as I don't fall into all of the rule categories, BUT again, this is an awesome idea. When I create villages, I pretty much work off of spontaneous thought, not conforming to a particular ruleset. I have no qualms using Lemax pre-made foam structures (I think I have one piece in my village this year) and have no issues using anything that works to prop up or arrange things, like a box an adapter comes in, not even spray painting it to disguise its original contents, or an unaltered piece of Styrofoam I find in a random village box. I appreciate the lengths you go to create some incredible dioramas, but some in the villaging community, like myself, just like to take, arrange, and eyeball stuff into something that looks cool. In other words, I don't really blueprint stuff. I think there is room for all types of creative levels in the community, even for those who may just have one or two Department 56 or Lemax pieces and just put them on a table as the smallest of scenes. But with a contest, where competition is involved, I'm with you, creativity, and most importantly, the most APPEALING, should win the day. Second, though I have a Facebook account, I haven't logged into it in a decade or so (to my recollection), because I don't like the invasive tracking the site employs. And please know, that doesn't mean I'd want you to change your criteria (or expand submission locations) just to cater to me or folks like me, keep it the way it is and what works for your contest :) Here's a good thing though. I am planning to make a video of my Halloween display this year (and probably Christmas) and I can peep you in a comment section of one of your videos to let you know it's up. That way, even though it's not a part of the contest, it's something you might enjoy :) Thank you again for putting this contest together and I hope it's enjoyed by all. And I think people might have an easier time cutting down videos to two minutes as we live in a time where short form content has become more prevalent. Have a great one Carl! vgv
Carl, As promised, dropping by to let you know I just posted my Halloween Village video for this year. I've also listed all the pieces that I used in the description below. I hope you get a chance to check it out :) Happy Halloween Season! vgv
Carl, It's the newest video on my channel :) It's the one that starts with, Halloween Village The Smooching Skeleton. Let me know if you can't access it :) Sorry for any confusion :) vgv
Thank you Carl for making a hobby that much more fun by hosting this contest. All the rules are very reasonable! I thought it was so funny when you said you will be able to spot those premade platforms😂. You are so right that the creativity needs to be your own including the base. I'm excited to be a part of this.
Hi Carl. Greetings from South Florida! I enjoy your videos and watching your creativity. I have bought a few Dept 56 Halloween pieces but my real passion is the Dickens Christmas village. Please continue doing the videos since I always learn something new from you.
Thanks Carl, I love your videos and have been so inspired by them. I’m happy to play, just to show you how much I’ve learned. Maybe next year, you can have categories….vignette, movie themed, trick or treat, spooky, carnival…. All fun!
I have re watched your videos over and over to get started on creating a beautiful display for my Halloween village. Your step by step tutorials are the best. If I decide to send in my video, you will recognize your instructions! I’m still a work in progress.
This is a great idea. It would be cool if you interviewed the winners(if they are willing). I’d like to hear the thought processes/inspiration behind the displays. Not to mention, techniques implemented. Similar to your commentary on your displays. This will be fun to watch. Looking forward to the competition. 😎
If you’re looking for a challenge/inspiration, I had an idea recently that would be very cool to see how you execute it! I’ve been toying with the idea of getting small fog lines wired from the bottom of the vignettes so that fog comes up through the grass when the fogger turns on. Seems like a very immersive detail for graveyards, and haunted manors/mansions. I want to use mine for our “manor row”.
I’ve thought about this a lot actually, but fog is wet and I’m afraid it would eventually make a mess in the long run. I’m open to ideas though for sure!
@@HalloweenVillagesbyCarl Most of my items are from various thrift stores. For example, the trees, wild and sunflowers were bought in a bulk. Other items were handmade like the bails of Hay, Fall foliage and corn stalks. The Putka Pumpkins were ordered from Amazon (your idea). Having a small budget encourages me to be more creative!
Oh wow 😊 one question Mr. Carl, can I use the same village I made last year? I will probably add some little details on it. I don't have time to make another one from scratch because I'm leaving out of the country on the 28th. The one I made last year you saw it already 😅 one part of it I learned from you. And the new detail I want to add is from one of your video from last year too. If its ok to use it again for the contest.
Would love for you to see my attempt at doing the iron fences that I try to do like urs , first time at soldering. Then I made a chain fence like ur penny wise ones . I’ve uploaded my to my video on utube . Halloween village and I have a Christmas village . 😅 .
Hey Carl! Quick question to clarify! You say one submission, but, can multiple displays be within that one 2 min video? I mostly display on shelves so I would typically record each shelf as part of my displays. Can multiple displays of ours be in that video as long as they all fit within the two mins?
Hi Carl, I have only 1 suggestion, youtube tends to delete the links in the comments, so if we post a link here & you rec'd it, maybe you can just write in the comment just "received" this way if it disappears from the comments we know you have already rec'd it & you won't get bugged by the quest "did you get it?"

Carl, Would love to see some more of your Christmas villages. Your content is amazing love the detailed worked you put into your villages.
Thanks Travis-I only have one, it I’ll be putting it out this year!

Thanks for providing this contest! Would an Oktoberfest/autumn themed vignette qualify as “Halloween?”
Absolutely!!

Got it! Great job-what brands are you using in your setup-I like them, but am unfamiliar with them.

My 3 buildings are vintage Lemax. Miniature candy came from Shein.
Banners and signs I handmade. Paper bags were made from real paper bags lol!
@@HalloweenVillagesbyCarl And my people figurines comes from various places. My Lemax people are from Michael's, eHobbyTools and thrift shops.
