Some thoughts about Edward Bernays's 1928 book 'Propaganda' in light of our current cultural and political climate--with some choice takedowns of higher education!
Totally tracking with you Michael. I saw the Senate hearing-listened to the whole 3 hours. I had no idea about the difference in the products sold to us vs Europe. The Powers and Principalities are tightening the screws-i think we all feel it.
I've read Bernay's Propaganda several times and will probably read it again. It's a quick read and EVERYONE should read it (and everyone should also read McLuhan). Not only does it shed light on our current situation, it also makes Plato's dismissal of democracy as being one short step from tyranny completely understandable. Curtis' film The Century of the Self explains how the creation of mass man, mass culture, and mass media, makes tyranny so easy to accomplish because if you make EVERYONE the same, all you have to do is aim your propaganda at the psychology of that ONE person you've created (your mass man) and you can sway majorities on every issue. When one comes across the idea that the ruling powers of Europe created democracies in order to stay in power after people rose up against their monarchies, it all makes perfect sense. People don't want to be ruled by tyrants so you have to rule them secretly, using magical spells (propaganda) and potions (drugs). Good work, Michael!
Ive been meaning to read that book stumbled on this video by accident... Im younger but Im from detroit too..... When you graduated highschool you used to go with your dad to the plant he worked at, Ford/GM/Chrysler etc and get a good paying job the rest of your life, its all gone now.... But I subbed to your channel I really like how you think
I agree, but I feel like attitude is the problem. "It is the way it is," is mistaken, sadly. What is, must change. The questions are always: Who what, when, where, and how. Try that thought formula on stuff.
Apparently civilization is not a "set it and forget it" affair. Propaganda is most successful when it finds a compliant audience. There is often a hunger in academia for recognition, and a resentment toward less-educated people who are more successful. Thus socialism has a powerful appeal to such deep-rooted envy. Just as the low-skilled unemployed are vulnerable to being seduced by fascism.
How rare it is to find a liberated mind of your caliber. The yt algorithm occasionally delivers. There were many moments where I was happily surprised in this video, and I can’t wait to read up on your past work! Thank you for bringing this illuminating information to more people. I am eager to learn more about how you think about archons, PKD, politics, and philosophy in general. I believe a species that is philosophically bankrupt is doomed. Fiat lux
Michael, Thank you for your presentation, very informative and a fun listen. It seems that no matter how much we experience change, somethings stay the same. The key point that struck me was the changing of word, propaganda to public relations during the 40’s, early rebranding at work. Also how science is used to sell an agenda. How many times did we hear ‘follow the science’ during covid? It was crazy. I really enjoyed your talking about the thriving industry in Detroit in the late 50’s early 60’s. My dad worked in the auto plants. He told me once that he quit a job in the morning and had another job by late afternoon as there was such demand for labor.
Well, I find little dissonant in the first sentence of the Bernays work, when I consider that "democracy" does indeed seem to fit Franklin's adage about it being like two wolves and a lamb voting on what's for lunch....
2 sentences in 45m haha. Its like the peterson biblical series, sometimes an hour on a single sentence. Subbed in case you talk more about bernays, appreciate it!
I agree with Bernays. The majority of people don't care to do enough research to actually even know what's going on. If people are sheep it's because they want to be. Sheep need a shepherd
Just so everyone knows and is aware... Its all in the family. "Marc Bernays Randolph (born April 29, 1958) is an American tech entrepreneur, advisor, and speaker. He is the co-founder and first CEO of Netflix."
Great video! I share your opinions - even here in Greece they apply 100% (e.g. academia's lack of critical thinking vs blue collar people who can think much more critically). There is a W. S. Burroughs quote that goes: 'A paranoid is someone who knows a little of what's going on. A psychotic is a guy who's just found out what's going on.' Better to be seen as "psychotic" by the brain-dead, than to be an obedient, comformist, and manipulated fool. Be well!
Interesting. Out of ALL the professors you’ve known and worked with, only you and a tiny minority of the others displayed critical thinking skills? Sounds kind of odd to me. And you say the whole education system, from bottom to the top (K- PhD) is nothing but propaganda? Very unbelievable. To me, you sound like a disgruntled employee who didn’t fit in and now have made an ideological second career out of bashing the system that educated you. For someone who specializes in Sophiology,, Wisdom, you seem very biased. No balance, no wisdom. Sad really.

@@jimturpin6503 which was the point
@@michaelmartin8681 Exactly! They seem to believe we need to be governed…
I’m so happy I came across your channel.
It is pretty difficult to critically think when mis, dis and propagandized information is all you have to work with.
this is the best juncture to convert to ‘paranoia’
Discernment is key

Miles Mathis has pointed out that institutionalized skeptics are not skeptical one bit when it comes to the current power centres.

Robert Crumb denies Covid. The radio show he still co-hosts with “old timey” music is really good.
Good!
I've never heard of him but so he should, it only exists en silico - FACT.

The wickedness inherit in democracy.👍🏻
The wickedness is inherit _in life._ In man's heart. There are two paths. Evil can appear in ANY system of government. But go on, shoot the messenger.
