Just a quick up date, and a big THANK YOU for your Video: I was the one having issues with Audirvana not playing in my Bricasti M1 SE unit with network card. All fixed. We at one point added a new computer and its sound settings changed the speaker designation. The speaker designation appeared in the output device box. As it was the correct speaker designation we were OK with that, HOWEVER, The M1 DAC was never displayed as an output device. Once we changer that to M1 in the Audirvana output box, voila, it played perfectly. Just wanted to share this point with you , in case someone else makes a similar mistake. Thank you so much, Robert Shaw TN
Robert, I am so glad you got it figured out. I would be lost without Audirvana. I am going on 6 years with the various versions and I love the way it sounds. Keep me posted on your experience. Thanks for updating me.
@@OldGuyHifi I subscribed to your channel, and also favor Audirvana. It make Quboz sound so much better. Thanks again, your video saved us and made the fix possible. I hope other viewers see this, and appreciate your time and expertise!!!!!
you were kind enough to respond to an earlier question, about my audirvana/Bricasti m1 SE DAC not being able to play music, period. I took your advise and uninstalled Audirvana and the re-installed, didn't make a difference. Thanks for the thought and suggestion. Your video was excellent, I learned a lot. Thank you. I am not long for Audirvana, been 3 weeks now, some texting, with no luck. Very poor way to run a business. I would be wiling to pay more for CUSTOMER SERVICE, HUMAN INTERACTION NEEDED!!! @@OldGuyHifi Yes I certainly shall. The first one I have is; Have you used another PC based song library playback program to compare this to? I currently use 'foobar 2000', which is currently my favourite out of all the ones I have used. It is also free/donationware, which is a good feature for me. I'm specifically interested if Audirvana really does improve local file reproduction and can bypass the Windows core limitations. I have heard/seen that Audirvana adds to the top-end of the sonic spectrum, which is lost to me due to my damaged hearing, so may not be a big deal for me. Being a techie, making the OS transparent to playback is my keen concern. Thank you as always for your time, content and reply, Sir. p.s. I don't look at the 'streaming side' of the program as I only use locally stored, predominantly FLAC files.
@@Simon_Hawkshaw I have used Foobar, JRiver and Roon in the past. I do think Audirvana sounds best. They have a version called "Origins" which has all the sonic quality of the "Studio" version but it is designed for local file use only, no streaming. It is a one time purchase as opposed to an annual subscription. That said at $150 you would want to be absolutely sure it lived up to expectations. I do the 'Studio" version as I am a streamer. You can get a 30 day free trial of "Origins" or you could do a monthly subscription to "Studio" for $6.99 month with no commitment and see what you think. Try it out and tell me if you hear a difference.
@@OldGuyHifi On that recommendation, I shall certainly try 'Origins' for 30 days before purchasing, and will report back once I have tested it out. Many thanks again for your prompt reply and insights. Take care and have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks for comprehensive explanation. I’ve got a silly question, forgive me, your Bi-Frost is connected to your Windows PC with a USB cable, right? Cheers
Yes. It is. I did a video on DACs and their connections here: th-cam.com/video/5JIgG81XUZc/w-d-xo.html. Thank you so much for watching and asking a good question.
There seems to be some upsampling confusion in this video. There are two places that upsampling may happen: 1) in Audirvāna before sending it via USB to the DAC, and/or 2) in the DAC (if the DAC has the capability). The settings seen in the Audirvāna set up screen are controlling 1); the PC computes the upsampled stream and sends it out as such and the DAC plays it. Some DACs also upsample, but this is a downstream activity not known to Audirvāna. To the extent the DAC is capable, this upsampling occurs in addition to that which is done in Audirvāna. Some DACs have a button which will disable this second oversampling, so called NOS (non-oversampling), which might make sense to use when endeavoring to use Audirvāna’s upsampling.
Just a thought regarding your 24 bit verses 32 bit Audirvāna issue with the Bifröst… In the Audirvāna setup screen for the Bifröst you have the “Bitdepth maximum of 24bit (instead of 32bit)” setting turned OFF. To my reading of the double negatives here, I think set that way forces 32bits at the DAC (which it probably accepts, but only use the most significant 24) even though the DAC has only 24 bits of “real” capability (the reality being even less, consult Stoddard or Moffat). The upshot of this is that maybe if you want to send only 24 bits to the DAC, that setting should be turned ON. A setting thus would send less data over USB but at the expense of some last minute processing to strip the least significant 8 bits on the PC which most efficiently uses a 64/32 bit pipeline for manipulating the stream.
Do you have any suggestions about I'm having issues with audirvana not playing at all. Qubuz and Audirvana were playing music for 10 seconds then quit. Then I got Quboz to play but Audirvana still will not play at all. It is hardwired to Bricasti M1-se with network card..What do you recommend to look at. Thanks Robert
I know this will sound like a Microsoft answer but, have you thought about re-installing Audirvana? I know it is a pain but it will save you settings for the new install. Also, you could jump on the forum and seek some help there. I am not familiar with your hardware and would hate to give you to give you the wrong advice. The forum is here: community.audirvana.com. Let me know how it goes. Sorry I couldn't help out more.
How you doing Sr. I’m just trying the software for the first time . I was using foobar2000. Foobar2000 sounds a little crispier more defined the sound . Audirvana sounds a little more bass . But the issue I had it was that I’m using an audio interface Apollo twin x thunderbolt. Is not a dac but still works , I’m using the asio settings the only one that works for me , the other two won’t work. The thing is when I play different songs with different sample rates the interface switches from 44hz to 48khz making windows to crash . I want to have the output lock to a specific sample rate . And just make all the songs to adjust to it . I’m doing this sample upscaling it seems to work fine is this the only way I have to keep it at a fixed output
@@OldGuyHifi thank you ill take a look . i sent a message to support . i think i fixed the issue resampling everying that is lower than the sample i set in the output its working
Hello, like to ask you, cause never tried audirvana, and have streamer Ifi Zen strem,...Can I open Tidal in Audirvana, find in my streamer, Ifi Zen stream, play tidal to work on my streamer, and regulate equlaizer, that is compatible with Tidal? Ty
Marko, You can't access any of the Tidal app functions from Audirvana so, no you can't use the Tidal EQ. There are EQ plugins for Audirvana under the VST3 format. Voxengo Marvel GEQ is the one I use. Find it here: www.voxengo.com/product/marvelgeq/ It will be a much better EQ than the one in Tidal. I hope that helps you out.
Great video. I upsample to dsd and it sounds wonderful. Ive never been able to get it to output to dsd from a dsd file. It outputs 32 bit 352 khz. My dac is capable of 512dsd but it doesnt show it. Ive emailed audirvana and they dont answer. Great tutorial! Thx

Send more details and if you can some screen shots to my email oldguyhifi@gmail.com and let me see if I can help. I also have a J2 see below. Try turning off the upsampling to DSD function and see if it will play. Are you playing .dsf DSD rip files or from an SACD machine?
Alex, I have the same issue with my J2. The Amanero USB board is used by a bunch of different DAC manufactures. My pops up looking for a Lyngdorf product. I just chose the TDAI-1120 unit and all is well. Yes it still pops up but doesn't effect the units operation even with DSD. I know some of the folks at Audirvana and will try and reach out. Yes, they are slow to respond. I will also let Geno and Sherri know even though it has nothing to do with them. I will keep you posted
Alex, I am curious to know why you are upsampling to DSD. There is no technical benefit as upsampling can't create more info. It just puts more strain on your PC.
@@OldGuyHifi it wont output in dsd even with upsampling turned off. The dsd file i use is a dsf file i downloaded from dsdnative. I only upsample to try and see if it sounds better. With it on or off it still outputs the dac to 32bit 352 khz.
I am sorry. I just saw this. My guess would be yes. Audirvana is European and is working with most upper tier mfrs. to get them certified. I am pretty confident the RME gear will work just fine. I have yet to find a DAC it doesn't recognize. Thx.
