I remember the first time I did this quest, it glitched, forcing me to reload. When I tried it again, I had the bizarre experience of stepping into the fort only to have all of the hunters somehow kill themselves on the traps. That only happened the one time. I did not know the secret path about killing Aleron, though.
That's awesome! There actually a few known bugs that are pretty wild, such as: If Kurdan is dead, his body will reappear inside Fort Grief after you've killed the lone Orc hunter inside the ruins and retrieved that key. Ursanne will be aware that Aleron has died. However, she will not give you the skill book, and only remarks that she wants to be alone.
Dude I love this channel so much. Thank you for pumping out content for all my favorite games. Everyone else is obsessed with new games. I love the oblivion content, Diablo content, etc. Makes me feel young again. These kids today have no idea how good games used to be.
I mean thats kind of the point is to enjoy new games that come out as well as the old games lol. Wouldn't be new games without the pros and cons of the old to learn from .

You don't see developers taking as many risks anymore, and thus you don't see many unique games anymore. Some? Yes, of course. As many as the early 2000s? Not even close.
When I saw Kurdain kill Aleron I didn't even give him time to talk. I just started attacking. An interesting thing is when you do this the archer doesn't appear. I'm guessing that the sight of my khajiit running out swinging her axe madly and screaming with rage made him reconsider. "Screw this. I'm not getting in the way of that psycho."
Not only do you seem to RP your game the same way I do, talking to NPCs in more detail than the options allow, but it seems you're a much better detective. I never knew there was a "shortcut" through this quest. Awesome uploads, m8. Cheers much!

I love the quests in Oblivion and always oddly liked this one...Probably because if you wait until a higher level its a great way of obtaining really high level gear same with the Malacath quest where you free the Ogres
I think it might be possible to save Aleron, if you have a really high level ranged spell of some kind. Or can quickly loose a high damage arrow, and get a headshot. I always tried to save him, when i used to play.

Aleron didn't sheathe the sword; you actually disarmed him when you hit him while he was blocking because he ran out of stamina. Interesting though that the developers thought to do this instead of making him essential until the point in the quest where the tag is no longer needed
I'm still amazed that Dark can get me interested in stuff that I either forgot about completely (Oblibion tidbits) or never cared about at all (I never played or heard of Kain back in the day). I'd listen to this man narrate my lawn mower's instruction manual.
Loved this quest. First time I played it Auriel's Ascension started to sound when Aleron was murdered. I've never felt more invested in a videogame story than that time. The music thing also happened when Mazoga told me her background, maybe that's why I love both quests.
You should do the Mazoga the orc quest in leyawin or the dragonian Madstone quest by the countess of…would it be Bruma? Lol. The mages guild quests are good too like finding Jskar & the lady who buys a staff & is tormented by scamps following her around constantly! There is also a mages guild where you have to rescue someone who has been lost in their own dreams, that was quite a creepy one!
Oblivion just had better side quests all around. Skyrim was 70% go into cave and kill the daugers with the occasional drinking contest with a daedric prince but Oblivion from its main quest, guild quests and side quests were all so unique that you could be doing the same game mechanics but you'd be immersed into a new story.

You have to be careful about killing the orc to fast, let him talk or sometimes it will lock on not having the key even if you do and leave, it makes it incompletable.
this quest killed my first character if i remember correctly aleron didnt spawn in the keep and the door to the dungeon was locked so i had no way to progress and when i tried again later the either the save was corrupted or my disc was just scratched in a way it crashed when i tried to load in.

First time i did the quest i didnt see Aleron in the fort (it was dark and the door into the interior is in your line of sight after the first gate) so i went in and went through the whole place. Confused i left and saw him standing outside. Got the update, spawned the hunters... only to find two of them dead from gas lol I love this game
Im pretty sure its not the devs making a failsafe, the key is on his person when you get to the island, so it makes sense it would be in his inventory regardless. This is why you dont meet Kurdan once locked inside the ruins until after you do the run in the first place, so you dont have an opportunity to get the key beforehand. If the devs wanted to give you a cheat or alternative way to end it early they would have left the key in his inventory normally, *before* you get to the island so you could pickpocket the key from him beforehand, allowing you to open the gate after getting in the ruins before doing the run. Although the player normally wouldnt be none the wiser to knowing they would need a key or any of that, but a lucky skilled thief would benefit from such a scenario. This also means they would have had to make an alternate set of dialogue and alternate quest ending to allow the option of Aleron to survive the run which clearly was never intended, or if it was it was cut from the game. But Id guess it was cut very early on otherwise modders would have had enough unused resources to make this possible as a cut content mod.

Am I the only one thinking, that if Aleron simply stood near that gate, he could literally be saved right at the start? I mean you do open the gate before you get trapped in the fort so he could've simply ran away and be freed. He even is outside of the Fort after all, just not near the gate. Obviously the quest would be quite pointless, if it was that easy.

U know there is a 3rd missing option because if you use stun spell or voice emperor or some sort aoe spell to stop, u might able change it but then again the dev didn't add it but underline missing script in the game

It's interesting that they set a failstate trap for this case as, unless the Orc's script at the end breaks without Aleron alive, there's no reason to. With the gate locked and no other option but to enter the dungeon, players would be forced to go through the gauntlet anyway, just without the complete context as to why. Worse, Imagine roleplaying a chaotic neutral character, or reacting appropriately to someone surrounded by dead bodies, and the game pulls this little 4th wall break. Kinda seems like this micro-quest was someone's linear darling and they simply couldn't handle the idea of it not playing out exactly as intended.
Ah I remember this quest from my first oblivion playthrough as an orc. I didn't want to kill any fellow orcs for roleplay reasons but this one made me break my creed
There is a mod for saving Aleron since it is the dumbest thing that they forcibly freeze you so you can't do anything to save him, just as dumb as the Blades in Skyrim requiring you to kill Paarthurnax even though they are sworn to serve the Dragonborn...
Is it impossible to complete the quest by saving Aleron? It seemed like there was a small margin of time between opening the doors and Aleron being struck dead. Maybe if you aggro him, make him pick up the sword, and then go kill the hunters, could he fare better against Kurdan? Long enough, at least, to kill Kurdan first.
I still wonder if it’s possible to just kill the orc before even heading to the island. Or somehow killing him with an arrow or magic before he kills aileron

All the inperial stuff is legit bad Morrowind has a lot of hype and memes going for it because of michael kirkbrides lore contributions and I'll agree. Everything related to the trinity is brilliant. The rest is very mid tho and imo the original Deus Ex is low key the best narrative/story rpg of that era
Feel bad that you can't take Aleron out of that hell hole in someway, seen like he must dieto the mission progress in someway. but still weird how the dev made that fail-safe situation when you kill Aleron, Kurdan jus appear behind you like nothing happen.
So, when Aleron gets killed, does the game lock your character in place like a cutscene? it looks like you have a small moment of opportunity to shoot Kurdan with an arrow and get his attention and could possibly save Aleron.
The death is scripted. Even if you somehow cheated to get your character free and movable, Aleron is still going down, alas. The death is as inevitable as the Emperor's.
The next elder scrolls better have quest failures. I miss having to save before important moments in case a NPC dies that's important and I gotta restart it. Loved that shit, made it immersive in a sense....not like this Skyrim "they're just taking a knee" that I've seen oh so often 😒
weird that they left this debug way to complete the quest in, i think they just forgot to mark aleron as essential and unmark him during the scene where he's killed

Doing Hunters' Run at L25+ is one of the few sure ways of getting both a glass and a daedric helmet,

I realized that I've never played this game normal before. I min maxed so hard that 90% of the enemies were one shot kills.

The game is too dark! I manually brighten it otherwise it looks pretty grim. Can turn down the brightness if you think its a bit too bright!

The rest is very mid tho and imo the original Deus Ex is low key the best narrative/story rpg of that era

Feel bad that you can't take Aleron out of that hell hole in someway, seen like he must dieto the mission progress in someway. but still weird how the dev made that fail-safe situation when you kill Aleron, Kurdan jus appear behind you like nothing happen.
So, when Aleron gets killed, does the game lock your character in place like a cutscene? it looks like you have a small moment of opportunity to shoot Kurdan with an arrow and get his attention and could possibly save Aleron.
It locks you. I got my game softlocked when kurdan wouldnt approach me
The death is scripted. Even if you somehow cheated to get your character free and movable, Aleron is still going down, alas. The death is as inevitable as the Emperor's.
The next elder scrolls better have quest failures. I miss having to save before important moments in case a NPC dies that's important and I gotta restart it. Loved that shit, made it immersive in a sense....not like this Skyrim "they're just taking a knee" that I've seen oh so often 😒

I was hoping that there was a way to call out the Orc and save Aleron. I guess it wasn't meant to be...
weird that they left this debug way to complete the quest in, i think they just forgot to mark aleron as essential and unmark him during the scene where he's killed
Could be right. I love that he picks up the sword then sheaths it in battle. Those little oblivion quirks to keep me going.

Necromancers, bandits, vampires, daedra worshippers, pirates, thieves guild, dark brotherhood, Mythic Dawn - Really, no shortage of people to hunt in Oblivion. This guy is trying too hard to make his hunters’ run - just get the boys together and check out the nearest cave!
