    Hi Sharmon,
    What a great haul! 😍
    You always make me laugh when you find a Florida Fighting Conch that you MUST KEEP, because the colours are amazing. You find beauty in every conch, so you have to keep them all.😅
    But you are right, they are beautiful. Personally I like the juvenile ones. The different patterns on every shell are gorgeous.
    One day you will find your albino olive! Just like you found a giant Horse Conch, it will happen.
    Really love the weather out there. Had to look what the temperature in °C is, but girl, I envy you all there in Florida!
    Here its cold, windy and a lot of rain and wet snow. In January we even had a record. It was the most grey month in the Netherlands since they started recording it. So, I'm really enjoying every minute of sunshine, warmth and of course the sea in your video's.
    I'm wishing you a lovely week, hope it's filled with sunshine and great finds.
    Big hug and lots of love, xoxo ❤️, Ilona

      If it makes you feel any better it's been chilly here lately but I suspect it's probably still warmer than where you are. An entire month of grey is way too much! I'm glad I can take you to the beach with me. It's not always sunny, but at least we don't get snow! Next week I finally share my post-tornado video. The shelling was so good I had to go out twice in two days! I hope you also have a lovely week and we'll chat again soon! ❤️

    I think the mystery Tellin shell at 2:37 might be a Constricted Macoma, though I'm not 100% certain. A lot of the photos of them I've seen are more chalky in texture, and yours is more on the shiny side. Who knows what is really going on there, but that is my best guess. That Limpet was pretty awesome! Interesting how you don't find them to be as abundant. They're definitely on the overlooked side of Florida seashells, and I find that on certain days they are more abundant than others. Lately, we found a perfect Cayenne Keyhole Limpet all the way up on Ocracoke Island! Happy shelling, and thanks for the great video!

    • @SWFBeachLife
      @SWFBeachLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the consensus seems to be those mystery shells were indeed a constricted sarcoma. Yay - a new to me shell! I don't know why those limpets are elusive to me. I'll have to start checking for smaller shells in the fresh water line instead of just the big ones. Congrats on your limpet find! I'm almost through watching your latest video. You're one of those loons who is out there at 3am aren't you? 😅

      @shellstories 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SWFBeachLife I am definitely the weirdo shelling in the middle of the night, and my next video also starts in the dark 😂
      Those little white clams are so obscure and overlooked that they are tough to ID, but that is what I think yours is. There are so many awesome little shells that wash up in the wrack lines with smatterings of little stuff. They're so overlooked that I am sure there are some species that wash up that have yet to be discovered because no one's been looking yet!

    Well Hello.👋..I really enjoyed your walk down the beach today ⛱..can you please tell me is there a bottom shell that should be attached the Turkey wing shells you always showing..Thank you in adavanced

      @SWFBeachLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Yes, the turkey wing would have the other side attached, looking the same like a clam. I have never found a live or a hinged version, but I hope to in the future!

    Great video as always Sharman! I cannot wait to come back in October for 2 weeks!! We're staying at Carlos Pointe Condos, right across from Lover's Key!!!

      Nice area!!! In theory you should be able to walk the south end of FMB (my favorite) as well as Lover's Key and you'll have nice access should you want to go to Marco Island too. I hope you have the best time planning your trip!

    By any chance can you explain what these shells are made from or once were a home too and how they come up on shore. I think it’s neat how you know what so many shells are along your stroll. Thanks … love your channel 😊

    • @SWFBeachLife
      @SWFBeachLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sea snails and clam-like creatures make the shells as their homes. Once they have perished the shells wash up onto the beach. I never really thought about where shells came from until I moved here. The animals that makes them are amazing!

    Love the video and all the different Florida Fighting Conch. Where would you suggest getting on the beach on Ft Myers. We are staying on Pearl Street but will have a car.

    • @SWFBeachLife
      @SWFBeachLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would probably say take the trolley! It's super cheap and will drop you off where you want to go. Just make sure you know where to get it again but it's a great option if you want a little ride and don't want to worry about paying for parking. Otherwise I try to park as far South as I can find a spot and walk.

    Hello from snowy Ohio. We still have knee deep drifts in the back yard. Love, love, love your sunny videos. Please show what you do with your shells. Do you make things with them? Or just display them? Or are they just in boxes in your closet. Thanks

      I couldn't bear to not be able to see those gorgeous beauties so I have them all out on display. I did make a video recently to show my collection since I'd been getting so many questions: th-cam.com/video/Afy0jl0smpE/w-d-xo.html
      I show at the end of this video some of the things we've done with shells: th-cam.com/video/d7SmDUcvdjU/w-d-xo.html
      And then in this video, I finally got around to making a shell mirror I had been wanting to make: th-cam.com/video/Mf5SVm8m5n8/w-d-xo.html
      I have a few more projects I'd like to tackle - i just need to find the time!!!

    Is the Rose Petal Tellin a bivalve, or does it only have one shell? They are such a lovely color. Do you ever make jewelry with them? They look delicate, but I'm mindful that they ride in on sometimes rough waves! I've never found them in Virginia or the Carolinas. Thanks for another lovely walk. I wonder how many other shells florese? Hugs from Virginia !

    • @SWFBeachLife
      @SWFBeachLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Rose Petal Tellin is indeed a bivalve, though I rarely find them hinged. My husband is the jewelry maker in the family! He's made all sorts of bracelets and necklaces from beach "stuff." I did use the UV light on some of my other shells and a chestnut turban also glowed that pink/orange color. But just one of them. Strange!

    Another great video! Consulting the txmarspecies page again, the white clam shells look like constricted macoma. They can get up to 2.5” and are in the same family as tellins.

      Thanks for the ID!! I tried to find the page but only found some basic fish and mollusks - ugh. I do believe that is what those little shells are. Now I'm hoping to find more. Thank you again!

      @@SWFBeachLife You're welcome! If you search "txmarspecies marine mollusks of Texas", it should take you to the right page. I see they have an email you can use to get IDs as well, but I haven't tried that feature yet. I look forward to seeing more great shell finds!

    Love your videos ! Is there a public beach access by the Pier ? Free parking? I only walked the beach by the resort I stayed at last year, so Obviously I need to go back and Walk More ! Great shells !!

    • @SWFBeachLife
      @SWFBeachLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beach friend, there is NO free parking down this way! All parking is either paid in a lot of paid at a meter by the hour. There are no public lots down this way, but sometimes the hotels will charge for parking making it a little easier to have access and know you don't have to put more $$ in the meter!

      There are some lots on the North end, but I typically park on a side street (I have a sticker that allows me to use the side street parking) and walk to where I want to go. Parking is always a challenge this time of year so I always recommend you getting out there early!
