I've never heard of anyone doing that before. Any tornado that is concentrated and strong enough to change the pressure outside your house quickly and break the windows is probably going to break all the windows anyway--from debris. If your roof and walls are gone, I doubt if you're going to care about the windows.

Was just about to take a shower with candles while talking on my landline after I set my water bottle down on my concrete floor whilst ignoring my hair having planned to also do my dishes and turn on my indoor generator as well as let my dog out through my open window. Luckily I plugged my laptop in and overused my fridge trying to get things to board up my windows while holding onto a concrete building for stability while my hot dogs grilled on my charcoal grill. Wouldn't have survived without this! :D

Yeah... and, honestly, unless something is damaged or not working properly, leaving your electronics plugged in when the power company turns things back on isn't going to do anything to them. They get the same exact jolt when you plug them into the wall in the first place. They can handle that just fine.
I used candles and battery lights when a tornado took the power out at my house... so... nothing wrong with that. When the tornado warning showed up on my screen I told everyone do get to the basement immediately (I remember every tiny detail of that moment.)

I have 2 tips #1 make a bag of food for storms because if your fridge is not working or you have to go to your basement or safe spot and bring ur storm snack bag and make sure it is somewhere you can get to it #2 charge your phone or electronic be4 a storm so if u need to call for help or check the weather it will be on full charge

This is why I have installed a picture window in my shower wall so I can look outside while taking a shower to keep an eye out for thunderstorms. The neighbors keep getting upset but that's the price of safety.

(3) If you're going to worry about leaching chemicals.... wood often has extremely toxic chemicals as well. (4) If your hair is standing up, there's a good chance you don't have more than a few seconds. This is probably not enough time to get indoors. Get down FAST, crunch up, minimize your contact with the ground,, and hope for the best. (5) Do not confuse surge protectors with lightning arrestors - surge protectors are useless against lightning.
So a long time ago about 9 months ago before I moved into my new house, I watched a video of a girl who got struck 2 times by lightning from taking a shower. About 1 month later it was a BAD storm and struck a tree right outside out window, my mom told me to take a shower even tho I was scared to because I kept remembering that video but still took the shower. What made this even worse was that we were on the third floor of the apartment level. Luckily I didn’t get electrocuted and when I grow up I will NEVER tell my kids to take a shower during a storm 😉🙅🏼♀️🤗

If this helps your astraphobia..... The only safe place to be during a lightning event is in a car - a metal vehicle - with the windows up! The car will act as a Faraday Cage. Metal has a low electrical resistance so the current will simply flow OVER the structure, rather than THROUGH it! Don't be scared. Statistically, your chances of being struck are literally 1,000,000s : 1. It's just bright flashes, folliwed by loud bassy booms, that's all! It's only something that we have no control over, making us feel powerless - but that applies to everyone, not just the astraphobic. I used to be like you once. I used to hide in craven terror! But I cured myself and now I adore thunderstorms. The sheer drama and majesty of these great cosmic events leaves me in awe.
My mother and I are currently visiting Houston. Houston is such a humid city and it's raining even now. I take it thunderstorms are common here since it's closer to the ocean. Regardless, I never knew it was dangerous to take a shower during a thunderstorm or wash the dishes. Thanks for the helpful advice.

Out of state contact! Local phone lines get tied up and get knocked out of service, so having an out of state and thus out of danger contact for everyone to call is super useful. This person can pass messages and provide well being updates when we can't reach each other. It also helps to have a meeting spot outside the home in case going home isn't an option and everyone is out living their individual lives when a tornado or quake hits. Panic is alleviated and everyone is contact, yay!

Out of state contact! Local phone lines get tied up and get knocked out of service, so having an out of state and thus out of danger contact for everyone to call is super useful. This person can pass messages and provide well being updates when we can't reach each other.
It also helps to have a meeting spot outside the home in case going home isn't an option and everyone is out living their individual lives when a tornado or quake hits. Panic is alleviated and everyone is contact, yay!
